@Nez: Zelazny's is suitably Halloweenish and yet has great charm
.. and I love his reading of it.. I listen to it every October...

He's a writer and wrote the story in question - just in this case he also happens to be the narrator on the audio version, if I'm understanding correctly.

Richard Laymon's story by the same name is also quiter good Halloween material - he writes slasher/horror type stuff - a bit shallow and grisly but good fun, in a 'teenage' kind of way...

Its a long time since I heard anybody talk about Roger Zelazny. I had no idea he read his stuff -long dead unfortunately. He wrote all his stuff at the typewriter whilst lying prone. Personal favourites are Dream master and Home is the Hangman a Novella/short story. Never read the Amber series to my shame

If I got the opportunity to listen whilst working it would entail 70's prog rock, 80's New wave quite a few Irish based folk pop rock groups and you too.;) spelt right for a change and various classic and jazz pieces...am experimenting with new prog rock metal...last groups I saw live were Yes and Blondie...fair range there.

None, it may change the influence of what I model....but, I like stuff like Blink182, Nofx, Duran Duran, Tori Amos, AC^DC(that's a lightning bolt:p ), the todies, Our lady peace.....ya know...rock and stuff, I really like a good wood wind...like that old Japanese sound or maybe Native American...

@CdeB: Yeah I did read Chronicles of Amber ... and I know.. Zelazny's gone... but .. my work avatar/email is amber ... for Zelazny's Amber, and I snagged it back in the early 90's, partly because my real name is long and hard to spell... with Jeannette, people tend to lose a letter here and there.

But the best part is that I now have a granddaughter who is named for me, and because amber had become such a part of my name (and because her mother liked it, too), her name is Jeannette Amber - anyway, I think that's quite pretty :D

I wonder what RZ would have thought of that? - an interesting story to tell Jeannette Amber when she's older... well, at least no grandchild of mine is in danger of being named butterpaw, lol :p

I love hearing what people like to listen to (or not) when they are modeling. I think it's very interesting, the connection between sound, and what goes on in that non-verbal part of our brains we use for modeling.

Well for me it's non-verbal (I don't mean when learning from a tutorial).. I mean when something grows on the screen while I wave my paws over mouse and keyboard - just don't ask me any questions when that's going on!

.... well I didn't say I don't blather other times... :D

Blame (or Praise!) Classic12, who wanted to know what we listen to when modeling ^_^
thanks, Andy - yeah! :jumpy:

Fascinating thread!

For me I prefer to model to the music of of my PC cooling fans. As a musician I always have tunes running through my head like an inner soundtrack (the medication doesn't seem to help!). Silence - or white noise like my cooler fans - allows for a greater expansion of my consciousness. Music is a distraction and always makes me want to turn off the music and pick up my guitar, thus stopping the 3d creative process.

I have a pet theory about recorded music - as the human nervous system only responds to changes in stimulus (rather than constant stimulus) by having music continuouisly playing we are training ourselves to not fully hear it. Thus when I listen to music I prefer to stop doing anything else and to focus fully on listening to the music. Multitasking is a myth, we can only fgocus fully on one thing at a time - thus, when listening to music, I'm listening to music, when eating a meal I'm eating a meal and when modelling in tS I'm modelling in tS.

For me trying to model AND listen to music at the same time means that I end up doing neither thing fully - buts thats just me!

Ah! W!zard, you've explained what goes on with me too.. if music is playing I have to listen to it.. and often analyze it.. visualize the score (argh!) X_X definitely does not enhance concentration..

yeah ... white noise!... rain or ocean works too , for me.. :D

You know I code more than I model, and I usually just stick musikCube on random. When I'm looking for something specific, more often than not it's \m/ METAL \m/ - Children of Bodom, Slayer, Wintersun, etc.

Jeez, if you're going to plug a product try to slip the URL in there too!
Nothing obvious, just something like:
GET MUSIKCUBE BY CLICKING HERE (http://www.musikcube.com/)

You know, something subtle.
