Hi folks. We'll be having another scriptor meeting Tuesday night. Chances are we'll be discussing Wigand's joystick control along with trueblue's HUD controls for 3dv's saucer. Lots of cool script stuff in there!
Even if you don't know scripting you ought to come on by to see the saucer in action! Now we can fly it with a joystick! Kudos to Wigand, Emma, and TrueBlue!
So come on out and have some fun!
Check this page for the time:

Yep... here we go again!:D
You never know what folks will bring to these meetings or what will surface there in the way of ideas, questions, and general script-related discussions, but one thing is certain, the more we each understand about using the Link Editor and scripts, the more each of us will be able to have greater control over trueSpace itself, and greater personal control leads to greater personal enjoyment.
I'm an absolute "newbie" to trueSpace scripting, but even as a newbie I've gotten a handle on quite a few script and LE-related things myself since I first started looking at all this stuff a few weeks ago. It's challenging but not insurmountable, even for me.
Each of us has specific needs in trueSpace which differ from others, but the ability to literally control nearly every aspect of trueSpace through script provides us each with the genuine potential of customizing trueSpace to meet our specific desires.
In many cases trueSpace script development is at the "pioneering" level still, and this is a good thing in some ways. Since the focus of the Corporation is of course the development of the Software itself as opposed to the scripting of it (and rightly so), scripting provides us with the tools to change nearly anything we wish but at the same time of course without a specifically detailed roadmap as to the many directions in which that scripting toolset could take us.
My focus, as you all know by now, is the development of a wide range of avatar activities for us all to have in shared space. Others use scripting for the development of very nice new shaders for Vray and DX9, and some create amazing new widgets for everyday use in the workspace to achieve new workflow ease. There is really very little in the way of real limits to what scripting could enable us all to accomplish, but in the way of genuine new capabilities we could develop together with it, there are also very few real limits at all.
Aside from all that, we also tend to have fun at these meetings even when we're not specifically trying to, and for me that's important too.:D
Now I'm late! So I hope to see you there!

Hah! It did look like that was what I meant! LOL
I should have finished the sentence! I had a paragraph above it about shared space development that ended by saying I had better cut the subject short now to go drop my wife somewhere before she kills me!!! LOL Then I deleted that whole paragraph and forgot about the last sentence of the post which I had already typed!
It's grand getting to be my age Froo... just wait! Hahahaha!:D

So I hope that the Scripting Meeting will be held in new area that Norm has created. I like the idea of having a clean blank scene.

Thanks for mentioning this. I was thinking that the other day too. Good idea and I second the motion.:)
There is a related issue though, and that's truePlay users. They won't be able to access the ts portal at all.:( So we'll definitely have to emphasize the importance of downloading the demo and using that instead of truePlay1.3 on Tuesday nights. I think we should anyway though.;)

OK everyone. As trueblue noted, Norm has created a scripting space for us, without all the glitz and glamour of the Meeting Room. Without so many objects, we should have less lag time.
Also, if you do not have truespace 7.51, we strongly encourage you to download the demo, and not use trueplay, since with trueplay you cannot see what we are doing in the Link Editor.
As trueBlue pointed out, we will be heading to the scripting room. There are 2 ways to get there:
1) Secret Hiding Spot! :=D
Go to the Meeting Room. Go Underneath the floor. You will see a pyramid with the Caligari Logo. Click it. You will be sent directly to the scriptor room
2) By following the instructions at the link below, except use:
tpportal (not tsportal) AND:
port: 1212

Or you could use a Web Document that is much easier.
Here is an example for trueSpace7 and truePlay users.
To test close trueSpace7 or truePlay and then double click on document.
These examples point to Meeting rooms. |

That's a cool idea! Besides, most new users spend a lot of time under the floor!:D

It may be a good idea to change the tpportal destination link from 1111 to 1212 in the Shared Space Server Meetingroom just for that night as well.

Now THAT is slick!!!!!!!!!:D
Way nice... thanks for that!
I didn't even have to log in with it! It took me right there logged in and all! Probably because I was in there earlier today and haven't shut down the computer since then, but still, it always asks me to log in when I use trueSpace or truePlay but just automatically did it this time by itself! Cool!
Great idea.

Well that was interesting and productive!
Yep... you never know what cool things you may just discover when you put a few wild minds together in shared space!:D
Tonight should be no exception either... drop on by and let's see what we can come up with together tonight!
Maybe you're like I was about three weeks ago staring at the LE and thinking to myself "will I ever have the time to learn how to use this thing?"
It really is a lot easier than it looks at first and there's more than enough people willing to help you put it to good use for your own particular needs, especially at these Tuesday night meetings.
The nice thing about it all really is that after you start examining what makes a few things work in there it just gets easier and easier to comprehend every time you drag a script in there to check it out.
The really great thing though is when it suddenly hits you that you thought up an interesting new way to do something based on what somebody almost achieved on the way to something else entirely, and when that happens it also hits you just how powerful the LE really can be for accomplishing all kinds of new things.
There's also a surprising thing about it, it soon becomes fun!:D
Hope to see you all there!

No problema Classic12!!!
You should hear some of the unintended things we've all had stream over our mikes in there from our own backgrounds!!! Some of them are really funny!!!
I often wonder when I'm in there talking to somebody's Avatar what they're actually doing at the time in real life, but maybe it's better that I don't know! LOL!!!
So hey, if bringing Halo3 with you tonight will get you there even part time to see what's gonna happen tonight there and maybe partcipate even part time in it... go for it!
We all have a good time in there discussing stuff, learning, asking questions, discovering new things, exploring new ideas... and you never know who may just suddenly and unexpectedly drag something in there with us all in the form of a new scripted object or scripted activity which will suddenly change everything! Amazing things really do happen there all the time!
See you there then, and bring your Halo3 Kevlar Suit just in case we succeed at grabbing your entire focus in there!:D

Hi folks...
were at a new location tonight so if you see the usual truePlace meetingroom is empty, that's why!
You can get there one of two ways...
1 - set your trueSpace Network portal to the tpportal instead of the default tsportal and set the port to 1212 then hit the enter shared space icon
or
2 - at the usual truePlace Meetingroom there is a clickable pyramid object beneath the floor of the scene which you can click to take you right to us
See you there,

Thanks Roman!:)
Yeah... I'm not sure what all the secret link stuff is about but we're a determined bunch it seems, nobody let it get in the way of their finding us all in the new Scripting Portal at tp1212!!!
The lights look better in motion though, and you never know ehat else we will have up our sleeves in there tonight!:D
Lots of fun, scripting!

Another interesting night there for sure... wound down 6 hours later!
Well we did have fun, but we also managed to make some actual progress there for sure at the same time:
(1) We examined the new UFO_v2 flying saucer and determined how best to approach it now from a scripting standpoint. We'll have an open dome which closes as an Avatar crosses the sensor platform in the center of the floor, at the same time the doorway which opens out into a hinged 2-part ramp will rise and close behind the Avatar, the light bar in front of the Avatar just below the new 3d Joystick Drive will begin to pulsate with a procedurally animated glowing DX9 shader, and shared space will never be the same.:D
(2) We determined together the best approach on the new Interactive Data Kiosk for shared space which will incorporate a new MYSQL Database which it will be linked to, VBScripting routines to access and manipulate the data, new related Administrative and Security Protocols which will be implemented for it, we decided on a set of several Backlit Dot Matrix Text Display Fields which will be displayed on the Kiosk model itself, the number of related Display Fields and the number of related Characters Per Field we first required to proceed with the 3D Design and Modeling, and a small Graphic Display area for supplemental displays of related Grahical Output (graphs, charts, etc.).
(3) We have had numerous confirmed reports of a certain Avatar seen there riding a very strange shared space object for the very first time.
(4) We determined that a less obscure entry link to the portal may just be a good idea after all... Dick Cheney didn't really enjoy everyone clicking on his new miniature shared space pyramid hideout to get to our new truePlace Scriptorium Meeting Portal.;)
(5) We decided together to deny all further reports of shared space Avatar abductions by Unidentified Flying Objects, the talking points are: "It can't be our new saucer, ours is already identified" and my favorite, "Don't believe everything you see from now on in shared space.":p
(6) In spite of ourselves, as always, we had a great turnout! These meetings just keep getting bigger every week and we see no end to that in the forseeable future. Provided, that is, that Dele doesn't create a new shared space rifle for Mr. Cheney to go hunting with.
(7) We determined that Augusto would be an outstanding shared space drummer if we would just give him cone arms and drumsticks.
(8) We determined that Augusto builds a truly great shared space Parthenon, so we will think of him there now as Zeus.
Thanks everyone, lots of new people, lots of interesting ideas floating around, lots of progress actually made, and lots of fun to top it all off!
