I just downloaded Dribble and playing with it :)
The plugin don't load on my XP pro 64 computer, but runs fine on the XP 32 system.
The integration in trueSpace Modeler is just perfect
I am very impressed by the real displacement mapping ! It is fast and I should be able to make fur on my toons characters for good. That's a great feature !
More reports to come... ;) |

my time with it was very short and I want to play more...I just realised that I probably put in the wrong hostid when registering 3delight. This is how to get it if you don't know how:
In a Command Prompt window, run ipconfig /all. Take the Physical Address of the first Ethernet adapter listed. Remove the dashes (-).
I didn't remove the dashes, maybe that is why I never got a license...doh!
Anyway, more reports to come as and when I get to play with it.
Emmanuel, I didn't spot how to do the displacement, Is it just via a bump map? |

I've installed 3Delight (or at least think I have) but if I go to step 2 and put in "licutils hostid" into a command prompt window I get a message saying "cannot get hostid for this machine". I tried splinters "run ipconfig/all" method as well and that came up with nothing.
The machine I want to install onto is a completely stand alone beast - no networking or internet - doesn't even have an internal modem or network card. Is this an insurmountable problem? |

:o I get to answer my own question so for anyone else having a problem getting a number for 3Delight licensing - I had to go in under the "Control Panel/ Network and Internet Connections/Network Connection Icon" then tried to create a LAN connection which of course failed because I have no such connection hardware available - however it did set up some software stuff in prep for it so now the "hostid" business works. Now I'm just waiting on the license from 3Delight -
drinbble on the other hand is up an working :) its just my renders have the text "3Delight" plastered all over them at the moment!:( |

The hostid is generated from the first ethernet device on your machine. I tried the ipconfig /all on vista and it worked fine. Although I dumbly forgot to remove the hyphens.
Did you definitely type ipconfig /all (there is a space before the / there)?
Not sure I typed the word run either...:o
Maybe the 3delight license is automated and unless it is a valid hostid you simply get no reply rather than an error message..?? |

:D hehe, that remembers me on the same problem I had one year ago with my 3delight license.
To get it is quite easy and described well.
- Install 3delight
- open command prompt and move to the 3delight directory
- then go to the "bin" folder where the licutils.exe is placed in and type: "licutils hostid"
- you get a number, this number you copy and paste into the "Get license file" at the 3delight homepage
of course splinters way is also working ;)
but nevermind it didn't work for me even with the license file I got per mail.
Will try it again if the guys have lost my name :D |

I need more info about GI. Does it work without any light like Vray or need additional lighting? My first tries give "all in black" if no lights in the scene and irradiance enable in Dribble. |

Is there a demo of dribble available? Its gonna be a couple of days until my money clears and I want to see if I set up 3delight right for dribble to work. I don't see a demo on the web page. |

I emailed them about this also but still no reply.
Did anyone get a license number immediately after registering their hostid?
Maybe you have to check the box to 'Buy Support' so they put you up their list eh?? |

Nope, no demo but if you use the code SORRYITSLATE at checkout it knocks off 14%, comes out just over 30 dollars. For us brits it costs £15.33....bargain....if I can get it to work properly...:o |

I recall that it took several hours for my license e-mail to arrive. After that, everything else worked smoothly. |

I got my license file from 3delight immediately after registering. I think if your not getting it you should probably email them. I didn't buy no stinkin support :p |

Damn, I sent the wrong code then and I cannot get it again until I get home so I will probably have to wait until tomorrow before I can use it properly...:( |

Neither GI nor HDRI work for me also. Perhaps I am missing something, or the feature is broken in this release. Did someone found the trick to enable it ?
Regarding the options, I think they are all quite self-intuitive though.
I only wish I could have an option to delete the .tdl files created by Dribble : after loading scenes form different directories, I get a bunch of those files.
A toggle or a button to remove the files on exit would be welcome, at least for testing purpose.
Welcome also are a PAL framerate support for animation (25 fps) and a field rendering option for enterlaced video... But I think I will post all this in a Dribble wishlist forum ;) |

Probably you Prodigy...:D
Just received an email from 3delight which confirms my suspicions that I entered the id with the 'dashes' as he put it. Will try when I get home and see if it installs right this time...
It's kinda sad, and a symptom of how long I have worked on UI, that the first thing I noticed when I first ran it was that the two render icons didn't look like the ones from 7.5....oh dear, I'm going mad.
As for that 'bug', I expect we will see a lot more before dribble 1.1 comes out. But for £15 to cover one guy's hard work I am more than willing to invest in it's future. |

Excuse any terseness, just want to respond to as much as possible :)
- The 64-bit issue is now top of my list. It might take me installing a 64-bit OS myself, so please give it a while - I've put a notice on the purchase page advising about it too. Are there any old threads where people talk about 64-bit compatibility with plugins?
- I'll think about adding an option to automatically remove created .tdl files, but I wouldn't ever use that option. Texture conversion can take a significant amount of pre-render time, time that is saved if the .tdl already exists
- As there are no self-illuminating materials, GI needs lights in the scene (although I'll be adding support for any object to be a real area light, resulting in much the same effect). Also, make sure raytracing is enabled in your trueSpace render options. I'll try and be more intelligent about automatically enabling raytracing in the next update.
- for HDRI, make sure you actually have the environment shader enabled in tS5/6 or the environment light enabled in tS7. If popular opinion is that HDRI should be toggled within the dribble UI, I'll make that change, though I like using tS controls for as much as possible
- Re: field rendering and other frame rates, that's planned for an animation-focused update
- I can't feasibly offer a trial version right now I'm afraid
- On 3Delight licensing issues: I know it's a (minor) pain to have to do, it's the only thing I'm unhappy with about dribble. I do recommend using the licutils program instead of just looking it up with ipconfig, because they format it differently (mine drops leading zeroes, for example) I don't know how they handle a machine without an Ethernet interface actually - I wonder if you could setup a dummy device somehow? If not I think your only option is to stick an ethernet card in there, it doesn't have to actually connect to anything. A future update/version of dribble would still require 3Delight to be installed but would actually render with a different renderer, sidestepping hostid/license issues. |

I have no international credit cards so i must find another way to send the money..
That's why you cant see my tests but looks cool.. I can't imagine me using my "light" 6.6 again...:D
Imo Real displacent mapping is a hit! i must confess i belive vray it had that option on 1.5 release but... you know... :p |

I have play with displacement and also found this bug.
Managing cracking with displacements is now a fun new hobby for trueSpace users ;)
It's a common side effect when dealing with true displacement, though it's usually far less evident when used in real scenes. Treatments include tessellating the geometry itself, increasing the level of anti-aliasing, changing the displacement amplitude, switching between ray and mapped shadows, and reducing shading rate.
That being said, I've been playing around with this particular test and could only reproduce it when using infinite lights, so I'll see if something's wonky there. |

I do not know what I do wrong, but it is the same scene (HDRI as Global Env. light) with LW and Dribble (3Delight) renderings. Even HDRI position or scale? at the background looks different. |

SIW please check this phenomenon. I think it has the same nature with displacement "bug", at least looks the same - light areas in full shade. And take it easy if some bugs are here. You have already made a great thing. We are sure that you will make it perfect.:D |

Not sure what is going on here but last night I was rendering with watermarks. 3delight is now up and running but nothing happening in the screen...and tS crashed out on me twice already...:o
I get the rendering % flying by very quickly but nothing on screen... |

Changa - with that gap between the cube and the shadow, play with the bias setting in the dribble lights panel. It will push the shadow in or out. This is an artifact that affects all renderers btw, some just have different default settings to handle it and different architectures are more prone to it.
The difference between the Lightworks and dribble HDRI images isn't surprising though. The method is quite different. I can see if I can better match the Lightworks results though.
splinters - did you reinstall 3Delight or something? When you say nothing happens on screen, does that literally mean no change, or a black render? It sounds like the custom display driver is missing from the 3Delight install. Look and see if there's a 3delight\displays\tsdd.dpy file, and if not, I suggest reinstalling dribble. And re: crashes, is this just tS doing it, or when you render with dribble? I've not seen any crashes from dribble for weeks, except one specific problem with one of the tS7 DLLs.
Re: the 64-bit issue, I've got to wait for my 64-bit media to come in, then I'll have to reinstall Windows so I have a good testbed. This will take a few days. In the mean time, I'll see if anything obviously wrong turns up. |
