Ok, my Little Cloud thread is missing an image becaue when I try to upload it tells me I have exceeded my limit by 75mb!

It then shows me a list of all my attachments (images etc.) in all my threads on this forum and offers me to delete them. I relaise this is a new feature but...what the....??/

So, is this spring cleaning time or a glitch in the system? I deleted a few early images but it just knocks down the amount I have exceeded...:(

Ack. Norm lowered our total attachment allowance. :(

I'm going to have to delete the tutorial videos and images I've posted to continue posting or start hosting externally.

That means the forum is going to be full of areas where images are missing, because Splinters and I can't be the only ones.... it also means that as people leave the community, all the stuff they hosted will probably go poof. I think it's much better to host the images on the forum server because then they stay even if the member doesn't maintain them.

Far as I know, this shouldn't be happening. I will have to check into this but don't delete anything until we figure it out. Perhaps something with the update caused this. Thanks for patience.

Perhaps while you're poking around in the forum's guts back there, Norm, you might consider allowing longer images? say instead of max 800 x 600 perhaps 800 x 1200

This wouldn't mess up the widths of the forum pages, but would allow for good sized pages for tutorials, and most people do not mind vertical scrolling for this (can even do that with mouse).

Well..it's just a suggestion, and I think others would appreciate it too...

Thanks Norm. Glad it's not a purposeful quota change! :)

Surely this must be an individual problem, I see that some new images have been uploaded but I simply cannot. Is there a 'reset' button or similar or do I have to delete year's worth of imagery?

Seems a strange 'punishment' for being a regular poster. I am a visual person who needs to show what I am explaining so I could really do with this looking at.

Cheers

Splinters, I'm not sure what's happening to you, I'd have thought your images are still in there, somewhere .... :(
.. I hope it can be fixed quickly!

@Norm Thanks so very much for the image size increase! 800 x 1200, (i.e. twice as tall as before) w00t!

@Norm Thanks so very much for the image size increase! 800 x 1200 Yes indeedy. Thanks big guy. Not wanting to seem greedy but could we possibly increase the max width a little to???? PLEASE!!!!

Well the only fair way to handle image sizes is to have a poll. How wide do we allow before the forum layout begins to suffer? The current maximun width is set at 800 pixels. The current height, after yesterday's increase, is now sitting at 1200 pixels.

I should be able to edit this thread and create a poll ... hmmm

I'm going to take a leap out here and vote for 1200.. here's my reasoning. I read (don't recall where.. manual?) the ts7.5 is best viewed at higher resolutions, and I believe 1280 x 1024 was mentioned. Although I'd find that proportionally incorrect for my monitor, that is a fairly high resolution. If users are setting their monitors to view at high resolutions, they will have no problem viewing larger images.

As to 'breaking the forum's framework'.. it depends on the type of forum application, a possibility might be:

Allow larger images, which are automatically reduced for post inclusion (only if beyond the best functional forum size) with link to the full-size version.

I don't anticipate needing to use an extra wide image very often, but .. it would be nice to have the option ^_^

1024 and 1280 would likely be more natural resolutions than 1000 or 1200. ;) But I guess it's close enough to figure out what people want.

Pretty funny about the TSML. I was one of the people that wanted to stay with the TSML and because I didn't the idea of forums, LOL....heh. Glad I finally got up the courage to post.

BTW, Norm. I'm also still quota limited... :(

Yes nothing can be looked at until Monday now. I looked at settings under admin control and see no limits in place. I want the server to be checked out to see if a limit in php or such exists.

800 pix width allow folks with normal monitors to see your entire image without having to scroll around it which to me defeats the purpose of having higher resolution images.

I remember the old forums had no size restrictions and at the time had an older system with a standard monitor. I was always frustrated by image posts wider than 800 pix because I couldn't see the whole thing all at once.

Seems to me you should wait until a higher percentage of members have HD wide screen monitor.

I don't mind scrolling to see the image, so much as having to scroll to read the text....

HD monitors have come down quite a bit in price, check out this 22" one for less than $250:

Why can't it be like the gallery submission site where you see a thumbnail and clicking on that brings in the HighRes version? No one would have to scroll then.

I'd like the thumbnail option too!

On my own shoestring game dev site, making do with free webware, we've put all our images in coppermine bridged with phpbb2, and put thumbnail links to the images in bulletin board posts.. very clumsy and I don't recommend it for here, but at least we can find all our images, and have the option to view them as large as we wish.

This a different bulletin board app in any case, but hopefully.. we could have a <thumbnail link to large> arrangement ...

^_^

Hopefully someone is looking into this as I my Little Cloud final image is developing fast to the point where I would have posted 4-5 images by now.

When I try to upload it tells me I have around 71mb already and that I am exceeding my limit by approx (the site details are exact!) 67mb. So I seem to have been given a 4-5 mb limit for my uploaded images....

Weird!...and annoying too.....:o

If the upload size is raised. We could maintain etiquette of only uploading 800px wide but link it to a separate larger res image that is also an attachent. Or just leave the large image attached at the bottom of the post.

It'd be nice to have a way to automate the low and high res attachments though.

I agree, a window of, say, 400x300 could be put in place and once an image exceeds that by a certain percentage, it would be shrunk to 400x300 with a link to the full size image. By percentage, I mean that it is hardly worth linking to an image a few pixels over that limit.

Even with a broadband connection, I have to wait for images to download and I often don't want to see them...so any shrinking of image size, but with the option of seeing the larger image, would be welcome here...:D

I love my 6Mbit internet connection and gigabit local ethernet..... What was that? 3 Gig file download?... no problem. :D I actually DL'd the bioshock demo and it took something like 15 minutes I think.... :p

I think I could survive ISDN if I had to..... but dialup.... man I don't even want to think about that...... :(

If you are still experiencing problems, please do a screen grab of the error for us and email to norm@caligari.com if the grab is not able to upload to the forum for you.

I am not reading of anyone else having this problem so if anyone experiences this, please let us know.
