Thanks, 3dfrog!
I wanted to also show how well Dribble handles SDS.
Check out the wireframe (relatively low-res) and then look at the smooth curve of the object as rendered by Dribble.
That's impressive to me. |

Yes I noticed this too. For my superhero to look right in lightworks it needs 2 levels of sds. In dribble I just need one level. |

Those are definitely some nice quality test renders, Frank. I really do like the way SDS render, though I think it's even more impressive when you look at SDS that makes use of creases too. Looks pretty cool.
Anyway, the fur.. it's just for me right now, but will be included in the next release (this isn't a pro feature or anything). Render time for that little test was 44 seconds, for what should be 342,500 strands. It's really not a particularly good example - all the strands are the same length, there's no curvature, too few strands, etc. - but it looks better than that attempt I posted in the other thread :P
I do plan on having at least some parameters mappable, yes. In an ideal world I'd be hooking into the tS7.5 hair/fur settings, but that ain't gonna happen right now. |

Your fur looks great to me Simon. I have a few characters just crying out for that effect? You can rely on me to give that a good testing...;) |

Heres a funny little anomaly.
The first picture shows the use of motion blur in the modelside lightworks render. Clearly it is multi-renders composited together.
The second pic is the same items rendered in dribble with its motion blur enabled. The dribble image also shows a bit of depth of field. (dof in the first pic didn't seem to make any difference with the same settings). The style of motion blur is much better in dribble - look at the small green cube bouncing in the background. The spikey balls are grouped objects and the central sphere is the first object in the hierarchy. However, the motion blur only gets applied to the spheres and not the spikes! When animated it ends up looking like the sphere is sliding around inside the area defined by the spikes. |

Cute test, and the anomaly is explainable - I'm almost positive there's a 3Delight flag to set whether or not to sample displacements when doing motion blur, and it must be off. If it's not this, then it's a matter of how I send the data down the pipeline for motion blur. Either way, I'll look into it and handle it for the next release of dribble.
Incidentally, I have some pretty cool news about dribble, that's why I've been quiet :) |

Prodigy: I like your version of the Jaws soundtrack way better than the other one. At least yours sounds cheerful, giving an impression that escape from the shark may yet be possible.

I may have the wrong end of the stick - the spikes were created using the scatter plugin they aren't displacements. Or did you use the term "displacement" in the context of mathematical transformations?

Hey, when I apparently can't pay attention enough to see that it wasn't displacement, you think I'm going to be able to get my head together enough to talk about the future? :D
I'm really busy this week so I'm not sure when I'll be able to get things to the stage where I can make an announcement, but hopefully you early adopters will feel rewarded when I do. |

Simon and Mr. Bones have you ever talked to Caligari about putting an icon on their Main Web Site Page? Another icon could be for VRay. I think it would benefit both sides. Show users there are other Companies out there now supporting TS. Just a thought.
Simon, your news makes me feel like Christmas is in the Air! |

Good points Steinie, dribble certainly needs more exposure-it is a great little app and tS only..:D
But what is the news......??
Fully working Fur and SSS if we are making Christmas lists...:D |

Just realised I deleted all my dribble pics as well...I will repost a nice gallery of stuff. I mean, how can you get by without that rice pudding or mushy pea texture...:D
If you don't have Dribble I seriously advise it for the meagre price, it is worth it just for the fun you will have...:) |

SSS: Sub Surface Scattering, simulates the effect of light 'bouncing' around inside an object or under the surface. Imagine trying to get that glass of mill just perfect or the way marble catches the light. Best example I find is the way you can see light through someone's ear when they stand against a window or bright light.
you can see it a bit on the pig further down but much better with the 'jelly' example. |

Nice shots Splinters. I think the quality motion blur is another big selling point. :) |
