Hi all,
The standard answer here that we always give - we cannot discuss the features and plans for tS7.6 in advance. The reasons are many and various and have been discussed in previous threads :) Unfortunately though until close to release date, everything remains hush hush.
The Captain's Blog is the current authorative location for the latest development news.

I agree with rjeff, he wasn't looking for info on new features and the likes, just whether 7.6 is free to owners of 7.5 or not? It's a question I've been wondering too? |

Don't take his answer personal EVERYTHING about ts 7.6 is secret, including whether it is a free upgrade or not. The only way to find out is from Roman himself and only if he wants to answer you (or can).
I would put your question in this thread also...
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3699
He usually reads that one and may miss this thread. (Busy guy) |

I know you weren't asking about features - details such as whether it is a free or paid upgrade are also kept hush hush until the last minute, for the same reasons as features (as things may change at any time from one way to another, so pre-announcing never works well).

Roman still asks me for icons, and I do a few...if I do a lot I may have to charge him.....;)
Developers keep writing code...he has to pay them.
Team Caligari, while very kind and helpful, need paying also....
Point is, tS7.5 was a major upgrade and I doubt that the price charged there would cover the cost of all those involved in working for a year on it.
I don't like paying for point upgrades either but I know tS7.6 is not just a few bug fixes: Roman has said as much and there are people working on it.
It may yet be free, I have no idea but I doubt it would be an extortionate amount anyway. Whatever it is will be an improvement and working for Caligari has made me much more appreciative of the work that goes into making each release, and the effects of piracy. No-one pays, no-one gets paid, works stops...no-more tS. That is what it's like with smaller companies.
Just an unbiased opinion from someone who has sweated along with the rest of the team to bring a decent program.
Oh, and it was a joke about the pay..I do it all for the love of tS...;) |

I think we should assume it's a pay upgrade and prepare for that unless Roman comes out says otherwise.
Maybe they'll do something like a an "8.0 pre-purchase upgrade gets you a free 7.6 upgrade now". LOL ;)

To be honest, although i was hoping 7.6 upgrade would be free i think this'll be one you have to pay for just because of the time it's taking to come out. If it'd ben a month or two after 7.5 it's be different but how ong has it been now? as splinters pointed out people can't work for free and i'm guessing that one purchase of 7.5 pays less than half the monthly salary of a programmer. when you start thinking about it like this you wonder how they make a profit at all.... |

Maybe, but I'm sure Caligari will give upgrades the benefit for registered users of Caligari products in some fashion.
It appears to be a trend now that all software upgrades require a purchase to renew the license.
It becomes costly to the user, but I suppose all of our whining about needed improvements has to have some price on it. :) |

I can understand all that. If it cost I won't be getting it for a long time. Money is real tight right now. |

I don't mind paying a little more for 7.6, but I really want to see all the v-ray bugs ironed out so that I can use the latest version. Because of the issues I've mentioned in other threads, I've reverted to version 1.0 because it's better (though slower). |

I'll just do what I can, when I can.. I've long since realized I don't have much control over these things :p
But I'm looking forward to 7.6, and hoping it won't be too long after it comes out that I'll get to benefit from the upgrade :) (and have a computer that can run it well) ;)

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't complaining, just wondering myself about 7.6? Chrisj mentioned VRay above. Caligari, if you are working on VRay too, please get animated texture support into it!! If you do, you'll have a new VRay user here :). |

Well if you expect some more great new features you do have to expect
to pay some money. In the case of Vray there are some features
missing ... one is what Paul says animated textures ...others
are objects as lights or multi layerd textures etc.
Its not very logical to pay nothing for some program like Kerkythea
that has all that and is developed at a very high speed and
pay a medium amount of money for no improvements feature wise.

I would like to see objects as lights - light-masking from objects and layers as well. Those are my favorite things from Lightworks. Animated textures would be nice as well, even though I'm not good enough to animate... I'm barely good enough to do my still life renders. Probably because I don't do this kind of thing for a job :D Or maybe because I don't spend 8 hours a day at it? ;) |
