Took a little longer than I planned, but I just uploaded the latest version of dribble to the commerce site, so existing customers should be able to log in and download. The link is in the email you received when you bought it, it should automatically download the new version. If you buy it now, you'll be getting 1.02 right away.

If you have trouble (either it says you've reached the download limit, or you just can't find your original email) just contact me and I'll manually send the link as soon as I can. I know some people have definitely reached the limit, I'll be reactivating those as soon as I post this.

Please install over the top of your previous installation, if applicable.

This is the list of changes:

1.02

- Fixed bug where bump/displacement would appear on other faces when paint face was used

- Added support for vertex colors, even for subdivision surfaces

- Added custom dribble sub-surface scattering reflectance shader

- Displacement mapping now treats gray as the mid-point

- Added more details to notes

I forgot to mention - I won't be working until late in the day tomorrow, so if there are any issues, please be patient :)

Simon, any chance of posting the scene you use in the SSS sample page of your docs?

Try as I may, following your instructions, I cannot get a good SSS effect. This is the apple setting from your chart. I have tried changing light intensity, GI, HDRI etc. but all come out dark...:(

Intensity here is way up but the SSS apple (darkest one) show no SSS effect...:o

Splinters, do you have a spot or point light in the scene or is all the light from HDRI? It may be that SSS requires a light in the scene...

Hi Jack, I tried a scene with a spot on the front and a very bright local light behind...same scene I produced the rice pudding and molten metal samples with. Material comes out almost black...:(

Tries adding GI and HDRI to the same scene....no better.

No, because I didn't save it, but here's a recreation. It's just the defaults.

Just like GI, using SSS demands you stick to real measurements. It doesn't matter what you use, just as long as you stick to them.

Incidentally, check out the render I got first because I forgot I was testing some fur stuff ;)

Anyone had decent results with the new SSS yet?

I must admit to being preoccupied with 'Little Cloud' for the last few days but I did experiment and struggled to get as good effect as Dribble 1.01 despite using the supplied scene...:(

Sorry Splinters, I got the new version downloaded, but haven't had a chance to test it out yet. Maybe 3dfrog can get us started?

I am getting nice smooth skin with sss. But there is no translucency option. I only get light showing through the skin at the corners of the mouth where i dont want it to, where two materials meet, when i shine a strong light behind it.

I'll do some tests. The one thing you have to remember is that the "translucent plastic" results (which are still available in 1.02) are rather exaggerated to show the effect.

Here you can see the light passing through the corner of the mouth.

There is a problem with environment light shadows for me. When I check cast shadows my object is flat. When I have it unchecked the object is shadowed but not casting a shadow on the floor.

What are you using for the background in that scene? Is there a chance that it's casting shadows?

3dfrog, another thought is that maybe the problem with the corners of the mouth lighting up is that there's no skull in the head to block the scattered light, like in real life where the skin only has a certain thickness, then muscle, organs, blood vessels, and bone?

Here is only the head in the scene with no other objects with cast shadows checked. Also when I use environment light the background is always black. It doesnt render the chosen background color.

What it really looks like is the the environment image isn't being used at all - is it in the correct light probe format?

The light probe type is correct. I tried all of them to be positive with several images. I tried with images I used earlier that worked fine with no luck. I reinstalled 3delight and dribble, still no luck. I don't know what could be wrong. Here is an image of just a ball on a plane, just a phong material, same thing happening.

Is this happening to anyone else?

From the tests I just did, I think you have raytracing disabled. I got the same results when I had it disabled, enabling rendered shadows properly.

BUT!

It still looks like something is wrong in the latest release with environment lighting, the sphere came out faceted.

Deny/Confirm?

I've tweaked the shader a little bit. Unzip this in your 3delight\shaders\ directory, overwriting the one that's there.

Should look better now, whether or not raytracing and single-sided are enabled.

Just trying this now Simon.

Regarding fur, will it have an option for some sort of random height generation so we can do more realistic fur and grass etc.?

Nothing too complicated (at first;)) but just something to stop everything looking like a pipe cleaner...:D

Just to let you know simon, everyone here REALLY appreciates the effort you're going thru with this, there aren't many people making plugins for ts anymore.

Any idea when stuff like volumetric light will make it in? or is that never going to happen?

Can I second that?

It is easy to complain and/or ask for new features but we may forget that this is one man working to improve the tS experience and connect us to an industry standard renderer for what is very little cost.

So many thanks Simon....now get back to work and get me some fur!!!;)

I'd be interested in the other pricing plans for Dribble. I want to invest in it's future and for me keeping it in Modeler is old stuff. I rarely go into Modeler so Dribble isn't used much by me. However I firmly believe in it's development and have no problem supporting it.

Once renderings created from it start hitting Galleries I think your sales will grow. Really good Fur would turn heads as one example.

No special settings. Just the ones attached. If you aren't getting hdri like you should you may need better hdri images.

Here are a bunch of hdri images. This is a 50 mb download.
