Hi folks. I was wondering if maybe we all could pitch in
to make a Haunted House. Nothing fancy. Basically, if you have any objects or architecture lying around on your hard drive that you would like to contribute. We could post the items in this forum, and we could all either make our own houses from the items contributed or we could work on a single house together, posting revisions. I thought it would be a fun community event. We could also do both. Why not? :)
We could drop this into a shared space portal and have an impromptu get together in shared space and run around in FPN. Or just download to our PC's, but it's more fun when you go to a haunted house with friends!
If we do this with shared space in mind we just need to make sure the items are low poly.
We could also add triggers for lights and effects; when we step on the trigger, the effect starts. Just some simple stuff. The simplest things can sometimes make the biggest surprises!
This should be fairly simple to do; since we just add stuff to this thread, then put stuff in the house wherever we want.
So if you want to participate/contribute, just drop some items in this thread, and build a house, modify others', etc.
I will drop some stuff in here when I get home tonight.
Some ideas for objects:
broomsticks, pumpkins, corn husks, heads, body parts, ghosts, furniture, houses / mazes, spooky eyes, skeletons, characters, etc.
Also: triggers for fade ins / fade outs of objects, light switch triggers, strobe light triggers, ...
Thanks!

Cool Prodigy.
If you have anything laying around on your hard drive that you want to donate to the project please just drop it here in the thread. This will make a decent repository.
I have a house, sort of. It's really two levels, with two sets of stairs, and that's basically it; it looks pretty cool, but the blue color is horrid. I am not a texture specialist but I'll drop it in here tonight. One of the other folks doing the immersive competition had a cool castle type scene.
I have an alien head, it was intended to be a human head but it got out of control. So it looks more like a Sleestak (From Land Of The Lost, a 1970's TV show).
I'll drop those here tonight for people to harvest.

Here is Mr.Bone's skeleton I hacked along time ago. When moused over it lights up. When selected it opens his web site. I suppose it could be triggered as well with animation or sound or whatever. |

Nice. Thanks 3dfrog! Much appreciated!
At the last TNL! I grabbed the spiders and the cobwebs too. We can throw those into our house(s) as well. :D

OK Finally got around to getting home and putting the assets together. I collected some of this stuff from public postings here on the forum.
Of particular note is the Great Hall from jayr. I think this is a really cool looking castle. He used this for the Immersive Scenes competition a couple months ago. I included mine as well. I have a blue staircase-house (which I don't like too much), and an orange staircase house, with the stairs only; no floors... That would be a cool trick house!
Also I believe the broom, crates, and freaky baby were made by 3dv. Thanks man!
Now, for FPN in shared space, keep in mind we need to limit the file sizes, but for offline, it's not as much of an issue.
Here are the filenames, with filesizes:
3dvcrates object 1.7 MB
cayennedoodle object 261 kb
greathall scene 1.153 MB
stage1 object 6.283 MB
stairsorange object 4.211 MB
broom object 937 kb
freakybaby object 2.017 MB
spider object 0.261 MB
stairhouse object 4.33 MB
web object 0.086 MB |

Thanks Jamesmc! That's perfect!
We can take these items and mix and match as we wish.
Let's see... we have the broom... we have the hat... all we need now is the Witch! :)

Oh BTW...
the folks whose items I included did say they were available to use for other stuff, so we could all learn something new!
Just gotta say that... :p |

A very simple, very badly made witch, sort of the home-made type kids would make, includes the hat from previous upload. |

Ok this is what I have so far; it is far too large for shared space (18 MB), but try it on your system.
Note: I got some crashes when exiting truespace; I will see if I can fix that.
Let me know what you think.
edit: I know it is very poly heavy. I will see what I can do about that. This uses the stairs, and also an arena. I think that's part of the issue... |

Also folks.
please feel free to use any of this in any way you choose. It is free to the public. I hope this inspires you to make your own scenes with the objects we have here. Please post what you make here; it will be fun to run around in the scenes together!
I still need to add triggers for lights toggle and sound effects, and maybe fadeins and fadeouts of objects. I will drop some of Dele's examples in here tonight for that.
I may have to use simpler architecture if I want to drop this into shared space. I will probably use jayr's Great Hall for that.
And if you have any other objects you want to contribute please feel free to do so!

Frootee, I decided to spruce up the TNL Site. Sorry 3DFrog but your Pumpkin is Pie! If anyone would like to get some triggers going that would be fun. If you want to check it out look at Port 1111 on tpportal or from Main Caligari site find the TNL site. (Birds Flock Together);) I would love to get some lightning behind the tombstones. (Thanks Prodigy) and if anyone sees Frank there please say hello.:) |

Prodigy, the problem happened again with your Ghouls and I had to remove them. We should tell Norm about the problem and see what is happening.

Hey Froo,
I already answered this here in your other thread about it.
Also, see how Dele did it with his trigger scene that had that ferry in it, one of the objects there, a cube, appeared only when approached and gradually... nice effect.:)

Here is the haunted house I assembled from the parts folks donated. Thanks!
Everyone can do the same if they wish.
IMPORTANT FOR SOUND EFFECTS TO WORK:
When you download and decompress this, make sure you either extract the folder to the C:\ drive, or move the folder to the C:\ drive. The path will be this:
C:\halloweensounds
Inside this folder are the sound effects, and the haunted house scene itself.
Be sure to crank up the volume!
This is a FPN (First Person Navigation_ scene, so walk around the house. To activate the sound and special effects, step on the discs in the floor. Some effects last a couple seconds, so when you hear the sound, stop moving and look around!
If you have any problems please post here!
EDIT: I just learned that the wave files are saved with the scene, so you don't need to worry about the sound effects. However, go ahead and save them to your hard drive anyway for your own usage! Look here:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4359
Enjoy and, Happy Halloween!

Frootee, I was playing in your Haunted House last night, pretty cool! Can't the triggers be transparent or invisible? Did you make the sound effects yourself? (that would be funny looking). :D |
