use this thread as a holding place for tips advice and objects that are created or may be used or studied for the saturday animation meetings.

the thread can also be used to store good advice or tips for animation subjects in general in relation to the workspace animation capabilties which have been approached by the club.

discussions can take place in a seperately created thread which can be linked back to the post made here.

Here is a contribution;

a pdf which shows how to add materials to the keying panel so they can be keyframed in the workspace animation editor.

it also covers adding the color for a spotlight to the keying template.

It isnt a subject that's been covered by one of the meetings , but I hope some people find this useful.

to keeps the repositry threads to a minimum and make it easier to find objects or items .

the topic can be discussed in this seperate if needed.

Great idea Paul!

This is the ship object I created for Oct. 27 meeting. The object is at the bottom of the post.

If you enter the object in the Link Editor you'll see it contains 4 objects, the
ship mesh, 2 cylinders and a spot light. I exported the Height node from both
cylinders and the AttConstant node from the spot light.

The next image shows the fcurve of the height data for a cylinder in the Animation Editor.
The height data ranges from 0 to 7 and I used Constant Start Value for Interpolation.
This is what causes the beam to be either off or on during animation (like a square wave).
If this is changed to Linear Interpolation then you could change this to a
beam that changes size gradually.

The Float data is the AttConstant for the Spot light, this is syncd with the beam to turn the spot light on and off.

Attached is my laser gun. There is a 100 frame animation in it where it rotates and shoots a laser. The laser is only a red cylinder that scales in the z axis to reach the ground (it's target). It is fairly simple. If you explore inside the le you can find the laser object if you go in a couple of levels then you can see how the sz keyframes are set up in the fcurves. It uses linear interpolation so there is no slowing or speeding of the scaling.
