The next release of Dribble will enable hair via the 3Delight render engine as far as I know. Fairly certain it;s not related to the TS hair tool.

Yes, I was referring to the forthcoming fur feature in dribble, Vray has a hair shader but LW (model) relies on a fairly old plug in to do fur although it is not bad...:o

Hey guys, you might have noticed the Monday release wasn't hit :*)

I'm still looking to get it out this week before Christmas, but I've had a couple of people say they would like to get dribble with Christmas money, so I'm extending the intro price until the new year.

With every release I try and tell myself that it makes more sense to "release early, release often!" but then I try and put too much stuff in. So I'm going to finish off what's there and postpone some other stuff (like volumetric shaders) until the next release.

Did I hear Volumetric Shader???:banana:

:D

No worries about it not making the Christmas release, just knowing that it's in the works is cool. ;)

It does make sense Simon, nothing wrong with point releases going all the way from .1 to .99!

If your worried about upgrade pricing when you're releaseing a lot you could always have a set upgrade price from any version of Dribble, say half the full price, then people who let a version go by may be more inclined to jump back in when a feature they want appears.

But then i know nothing about business so you should probably ignore me :p

I hate to ask this while you are probably trying to enjoy some christmas time with your family Simon, but is this still the plan?

Either way, have a great Xmas and a happy new year...:D

Well, I know there's some disappointment here, but obviously I wasn't able to make a Christmas release.

There's no conspiracy, simply that I've had a lot less time than I expected on the PC, let alone be able to do any work, and believe me I'm more frustrated than any of you waiting for the new release.

I just wanted to drop in and give an update, and to thank you all for your support and your patience.

Thanks for the update simon, when you mentioned volumetric shaders, did you mean for lights or something like pyrocluster?

I'm hoping it's something like Pyrocluster so we can do clouds, smoke, area fog, milky glass, murky water... ;)

I wonder, are the volumetrics going to be in the next release seeing as the 'last' release was effectively delayed? Any projected time for the next one Simon, or have you taken a leaf out of Caligari's book; it's ready when it's ready?

I bet he means volumetrics specific to lights, similar to how it's done in tS/lightworks.

If it were like PyroCluster, the plugin would require special objects placed in the scene that would be rendered as volumetric objects. But of course... this could be what he's planning.

It's fun to guess! :)

Keep in mind that Renderman is entirely shader based. That why it was really hard to develop raytracing type features for it like GI and caustics.

Yeah, me too. Not just for Dribble updates but because it is worrying when someone seemingly 'disappears' from the forum for a while. I will see if I have his private email and drop him a line ...:o
