Hurry up!!!

Found this on another forum. It's a pay forum other wise I would provide a direct link:

" We're not supposed to have it anyway, unless we got it via the PC Plus magazine CD. I felt awful when I found out I wasn't supposed to have it, but the people at TechSmith understood and even apologized. Of course it wasn't their fault either. Someone posted the misinformation and the link to download the software in a Blog and that started the whole thing.

The gal at TechSmith said the magazine would be pretty upset to learn people were getting the software via another route than their promotion. Can't say I'd blame them, or blame TechSmith if they were upset. "

This applies to both Camtasia and Snagit.

If this was a magazine promotion, then why the online download?

Also, there was no part of the site, the download or the confirmation that mentioned PCPlus at any time. No voucher was needed, just an e-mail address.

The download is from a public FTP that anyone can access.

Considering this is Techsmith's software, I doubt they could care less how people got it. The evil blog is still there at any rate.

I think someone has their hysterical wires crossed, here.

Try contacting Techsmith yourself instead of guessing why:

Or don't.

Whatever.

I'm not guessing, and no need to contact Techsmith about this, they've already sent me a serial number. ;)

Unlike user transient I DID contact techsmith and this is what they had to say:

******************************************
Hello,

Thank you for your interest in Camtasia Studio! That is correct, the promotion was meant only for readers of PC Plus Magazine in the UK who would have received a physical CD included with their issue. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. Thank you!

Regards,

************************************************** ****

I will therefore delete Camtasia from my hard drive and any copies that I have of it. I would suggest that others delete the program as well unless they now have PC PLUS and the cd that contained Camtasia and live in the UK.

I doubt TechSmith will be upset when several thousand "freebie" folks upgrade their versions.

I own two TechSmith products already and it doesn't bother me a bit that a promotion like this was handed out.

Anyone who thinks magazine content stays on a Floppy/CD but drifts about, doesn't know much of how early computer magazines evolved. :)

They have a lot nice stuff there, including downloads. :)

You are advocating the illegal use of this software. The software in the thread (Camtasia) was meant specifically for a promotion in the UK only for purchasers of PCPlus magazine. Anyone having this software without meeting these conditions is illegally in possession of Camtasia or Snagit.

I wonder how Caligari would feel if this happened to True Space?

I'm not advocating anything.

I'm a legal and licensed owner of Camtasia Studio 5 and Snagit 8.

I gave my opinion.

The files for the very old versions of the program were online and available to be downloaded. There was also a mechanism for acquiring a license for said software ONLINE.

TechSmith should admit to their screw up.

And you calling me a thief isn't the proper thing to do when I am licensed for the software in question by TechSmith.

So, how about getting off your moral high horse and go do something else?

I am not saying that obtaining a copy of Camtasia 3 by using the download link given is right but I just googled Camtasia 3 and ...well see for yourselves

Improv is a man of honour and I respect that although I wish he did'nt shout :)

We reviewed the scenario and decided it was ok to leave the thread alive for now.
It is our hope that community will refrain from personal attacks in this regard.

No problem on my part, Norm, the party in question has been on my IGNORE list for some time anyway. And there he shall stay.

I just consider the source of the comment. :D

BTW Norm-I here you guys in Northern Alberta have -17 C temps and heavy snow today? (I was talking to a biz associate in Edmonton. You're near Jasper aren't you?)

Cheers

Thanks for that, Jim. Unlike jamesmc, you have some understanding of the situation. BTW-sorry about the shouting, at the time I was thinking of it as a way to get the message noticed. I'll go change it now.

Cheers

umm... if James is on your ignore list, then how did you quote him in your response to his post?

Well, that pretty much sums up my feelings on this issue. I mean, I may be thief, but at least I'm not a liar.

And Norm, if you want this forum to free from personal attacks, it would be better if you stopped the original antagonists to start with. I know James has a bit of a rep on these forums, but his feelings pretty much mirror mine, and probably others who are to afraid to stand up to Improv's bullying tactics.

This forum is a cool place to be because it's generally free of this kind of abuse and holier-than-thou rhetoric.

In any case, I've e-mailed Techsmith offering my license back, with a few questions about why it asked for my country of origin on the application, if this was a UK only deal. So far no response.

Camtasia Studio3 is being offered free EVERYWHERE! The only difference now is they have MY email address, spam, spam, spam.....

If they want the software back they know where I am.

I laughed when I discovered the "ignore list" doesn't work here or were those misquotes?....

Well I have to go now, the sky is falling....Happy Holidays.

I think it's pretty safe to say that they don't care who gets the deal, it's all gravy to them.

Also keep in mind it's not them accusing everyone who took part in this of being a thief.

So in other words it's alright as long as you can get away with it and pull off a freebee.

If all the other kids were shooting up heroin and jumping off a bridge, I guess you'd do it too!

Good luck on teaching your children the difference between right and wrong.

No I teach my children not to preach.
Did you forget that the software is FREE everywhere? The Company GAVE me the software. If you received a free sample of shampoo in your mailbox and gave it to your neighbor would you be dishonest? Not sure where your going with drugs and bridges but I think you need some eggnog, possibly spiked. (and I'd join you)

May I suggest the Blog area or private message areas for further discussion.

Improv, you can message me anytime if you have a problem with me.

However, I think you like the "attention factor" you get out in the open forum.

But please do be careful Improv, I can tell you from experience that Norm does not care for people who seek too much attention. :)
