This is not an issue for one user to resolve "against" another - this is one for the company in question to resolve. I am quite sure that they may just have noticed by now that the free download did not just appear for the magazine owners, but is now being downloaded by many more folks too, so I am sure they will take whatever action they deem is necessary.
Therefore there is no need for one person here to tell another what to do - Techsmith are quite capable of telling folks what to do by themselves. If they have the email of everyone who registered, it will be easy to email and say that those who do not own the magazine are not entitled to it and should remove it. It would also be easy for them to post that on their forums, message boards, and web pages. It would be equally easy for them to post that its fine for others to download. It would also be easy for them to remove the download, or add extra checks to ensure it doesnt get into the wrong hands. So let's leave the company to resolve it for themselves to their satisfaction, and then I am sure all users will respect the legality / morality of what follows on from that.
Meantime, neither "side" benefits (or puts themselves in a very good light) here when they insult / question / criticize the other, and I hope all that will simply stop now.
Best regards,
Tom |

Thanks for the info Improv :)
I never download it because download speed are very slow (My early plan is download it next month, but I canceled it now) . I only finished with request for software serial key both for SnagIt and Camtasia.
When I ready with buy this, I'll contact TechSmith and ask if my serial key is valid for buy thier new version. But not in this years.
Thanks again Improv for make it clear.
PS: I currently use CamStudio, for video capture http://camstudio.org/blog/general/camstudio-25-beta-1-released |

Just in case this information is helpful to anyone..
I had downloaded but not yet installed the two 'freebie' items and keys. However, when I saw this thread, I wrote to their sales dept. saying I'd heard that there was some sort of mixup and that I now thought perhaps the free items were only for readers of a particular magazine, and asked for confirmation, offering to delete them if that was indeed the case.
I had a wonderfully polite and kind answer from them, saying, yes, that was originally the plan, but when they realized the downloading had gone well beyond that readership, they were surprised and pleased at the extent of interest, and decided to open it up to every one.
She said they are delighted that we're interested (I mean we, the public, generally) in the software, and hope that we will like it well enough that at some time we might also want to upgrade (especially since that version will not work with vista) but that in any case they were happy for us to enjoy using the free version.
She even included a new link for download and a new key for me, just in case the one I had downloaded previously might not be valid or functional.
They sound like generous-spirited and sensible people to me. Just thought you'd like to know.. it seems to be ok with them if you have it...
Of course, you don't have to take my word for it - you could also ask them yourselves.. ;)

Well, there it is then. :)
(gloat) Wonder if I made a phrase similar to what Butterpaw quoted about TechSmith increasing their sales? :) (/gloat) |
