What people don't want to vote for the MMC? Had this poll up since Midight Friday and we have only had 8 votes? Please vote people, how long will it really take? Splinters poll has been up 1 hr or so and has 12 already? We put alot of work in our images. Voting would be appreciated

Sorry you feel the need to make that comparison rjeff, I am certainly not wanting to take attention away from the MMC. I guess people are more likely to offer a quick feedback about their working methods than making a critical judgement of other's work...and I am just as guilty as anyone else who has not voted. I simply have been too busy and have not followed those threads lately...:o

I just don't have time to participate that often in the community while working on my game.

I think James is implying that we are not important enough to be noticed ;):D. Please correct me if I am wrong James .

I'd like to think that maybe it is world sleep day and nobody has been kind enough to remind me ;):D.

Well that is utter tosh Hemulin. You use the collective 'we' there as well which you know is not the case as I take great interest in your ever improving work. The other names James mentioned are not so prominent all the time but clearly work very hard to produce high quality work and are inspirational to the rest of the community.

Me? Well, I am just too busy with school stuff at the moment, I haven't even posted any stuff of my own for a while now...it certainly is not snobbery!

Just..too...busy...and tired...:(

I take a much more active role around here during school holidays...;)

Sorry, I did not mean that to be taken seriously. Hmm I seem to be lacking in adequate smilies at this point....I will rectify that post.

Well I was not comming down on anybody for not doing the project. I know we all have alot to do and the MMC does take alot of time. I was just saying the voting would not take that long. To me is only seems right, that if we 4 put a month or so into the work that the community should vote. I vote on the SMC even though I have not posted work. It only takes a minute. It really is not about making a critical judgement Splinters as it is just saying hey I like this image. That is all. Heck there are close to 1000 users on here..and we can only get a small few to take 3 min to vote?..and yes James I remember the message.

Midnight Friday?

Goodness Gracious! I go away for a little Thanksgiving holiday visit and come back to this????

Folks, please - don't feel bad, or think it's a matter of comparison .... a lot of people go away for the holidays, even taking an extra day or two in order to spend some precious time with family far away ... and I, for example, haven't got to any of those threads for voting yet, but they are all important to me (and probably to most of us!) :)

I'm sorry people have felt bad about this.. I was in frantic mode before going away and am exhausted now, having just returned.. but here I am, and I promise I will pay attention to all, as quickly as I can - I sincerely hope plenty of time is allowed for voting when there's a holiday in the middle of things ...

I love all the folks who contribute so much here, and admire their work very much...

It's true that it's easier to make a brief appreciative compliment on work completed than it is to make a carefully considered vote on a competition (and I do believe it deserves my taking care over it), but I think if you can be a bit patient, you'll find that others feel as I do :)

^_^

Well Butterpaw I was not trying to guilt anybody into anything. I was just doing a comparison to the poll Splinters started this afternoon and the MMC poll that started Friday Midnight. It just didn't make scense to me is all.

Thanksgiving week. Travel time. Black Friday. Saturday wipeout. Sunday sleepy. Unpacking. Prepping for next work week. Typical holiday stuff.

I did not see the MMC post, though I am sure it was there; I can't speak for anyone else but I have only been glancing at the forums here since I've been back.

Do note that the MMCs have gotten fairly quick responses the rest of these prior months; comparing that to this month's results, coupled with the fact that this is a Holiday week, may lead to the conclusion that folks on the state side of the pond are recuperating from the holiday. :)

I did vote on the Model vs. Workspace side only because it was the thread that was last updated this morning when I happened to have enough time to logon today as I drank my morning life-juice (coffee), wiping the eye-boogers from my eyes. :)

I am not sure about the deadline but perhaps it would be a good idea to extend it 1 day? Maybe post a reminder announcement about the voting prior to the deadline?

Have a good one! :jumpy:

EDIT:
HI BUTTERPAW! :=D

Hey, people often answer the easiest things first.. voting in a poll requires more time, viewing and carefully considering. Please be assured that some people are always going to watch out for these competitions other will just stumble over them. ^_^

Which posts get answered first can also depend on who is online at any given time, and what their particular interests are... also.. if you look for the most recent posts, as I do, you 'll find the most recent winds up at the top.. if you've been away for the holiday, check this way.. you'll come across a post from Saturday or Sunday before a post that was made on Friday ... :P .. I usually start from the top and work my way down the list.. but this time I stumbled across your thread first.. just a random thing.. I didn't go in order :p

I know next to nothing about computer hardware, but I must say, I enjoyed looking at them and picked something I liked the look of best, but they are all very pleasing :)

I do think, though, that you are missing out on some participants because of the holiday, but .. there are still a few days .. so you'll probably get some more voters ;)

I use a criterial to cast my vote..

1) 1~5 Rendering
2) 1~5 Wip
3) 1~5 Model complexity

All competitors was very very close but JamesMC win for 1 point for his great WIP.
Well done guys!

I voted based on effort, improvement, and complexity. My vote could easily have gone to any one of these amazing entries. In the end I voted for JamesMc because he exhibited all three criteria to me.

Several factors influence how much energy I have available for these forums - one being that my dial-up connection means that I spend a lot of time waiting for image rich threads to download. I also find that since the advent of tS7.x the topics discussed on these forii have expanded hugely - we used to discuss modelling and how to get the best from one renderer. Now we have two modellers (Workspace and model sides) a selection of renderers (LW, V-ral, Realtime DX9, Virtualight and now Dribble) plus much wider ranging options in the realms of animation, immersive realtime 3d scenes, scripting and so on.

This richness of avenues to explore with the software plus to discuss on the forii means that I have to regretfully select to disregards some areas of the trueSpace universe. Thus I don't read or comment on many forums and topics, instead focussing on those areas where my interests lie and where any expertese I can share is relevent.

Even with these steps in place there are many areas of trueSpace and these forii that I am unable to spare the time to participate in - the speed modelling challenge and monthly modelling challenge have had my input in the past but sadly I don't really have time to be active there now.

I see these forii as similar to a local pub or tavern - most of the regulars are on nodding terms with the other regulars but there are also subgroups. The petrol heads are in one corner talking about cars, the character modellers are in another corner talking character modeling, the scripting fans are discussing scripts at another table, there's a bunch of stoners over by the window grinning and giggling at each other. Norm is standing by the door making sure there are no fights or undesirable persons in the bar, Tom is behind the counter dispensing our favourite beverage - tidbits of news about tS - and so on. Oh yeah, there's a group of people over at the dart boards and pool tables that are synonomous with the SMC and MMC.

Just because I'm at another table discussing girls - or booleans and shaders - doesn't mean that I'm not interested in the odd game of darts - it just means my attentions are focused elsewhere at the moment.

On a typical visit to the pub I like to get around as many of the tables as I can but I also need to get home to my computer to actually use trueSpace itself! For example, I sat down today at 3 pm to do some modelling - it's 3 hours and 20 minutes later and I've been so busy socialising on the forum that I've not yet even booted trueSpace up!

Please don't take it personally - I hope that the participants in the various challenges and other activities are having a rewarding and satisfying time - I wish I could also partake but I simply don't have time and therefore must prioritise.

Now, who's getting the next round?

Great analogy Wizard...a fairly descriptive version of what I wanted to say. My time is limited so I cannot look into everything around here.

But that should not detract from the great work being produced...I just wish I had more time to do some...:o

Man that's tempting - I used to play a good game of pool myself back in my misspent youth. I would love to take you up on your offer but if I don't stay home tonight and mow the lawns I'll have to cook my own dinner (definitely not a good thing!);)

Well..I understand all are, busy myslef included. When I enter the MMC challenges I do my work from 10:30 pm to 1:00 am. This is when the family is in bed and I can give it all my attention. I guess I just don't see how long it can take it say..hmm I like this image and vote. Not exactly a strenious activity. I can see if you don't have highspeed it might take some time to load the images,,,in which case I move there were the is highspeed...so I can see that. But for thoes who do..come on.

Cool - that's jolly decent of you! FWIW I prefer a nice lager to a darker beer myself but I'm able to enjoy pretty much any beverage so long as it's cold, brown and called Beer.:D
