Mmmm, not sure what you mean Ambrose. Is this like the old adage: no news is good news?

I am sure most would like an update but I know Caligari are working very hard on the next update...maybe that is why no log, and in that case, that is good news...:D

I, for one, would really like to see some kind of written updates....now I know every time they give us a 'bone', it must stir up 'trouble' for the Caligari staff, and I don't mean definitive answers about deadlines or due dates - just a couple of words every two weeks or so. You know...."the tools are porting nicely...."everythings looking good"....."we hit a snag with the LE and have to delete it" (just a joke,;)) They could put a big 'disclaimer' on the posts that any further inquiries about the posts will have to wait, sorry.

What do you think?

It's hard to put together a quality program.

Besides, isn't it this time of year that Caligari has their "Hamster and Lemur" races?

I mean, one must have priorities. :)

Personally, I don't want to have an update unless it is in regards to 7.6(or me winning something..or just about me:rolleyes:)...., and yes I do want to hear about that ASAP.....but no need to rush to failure.(ready when ready)

7.6 sounds like it will be a very nice upgrade from the small bits of information we have been spoon fed. Last time we heard anything Roman said the plumbing was being worked on. As long as stability is maintained and new tools developed we are probably in for more treats.

Are you sure Steinie, it was about the last time Roman made a log entry that my plumbing was being worked on...:p

"Nice shark. Pretty Shark." - Londo Molari :pGood shark, sit:) Glen has one version where shark chases after nearest avatar or you can tell him an avatar by name and he will chase that one. So far he has no "jaws" music or animated effects.

Sounds fun. You could turn it into a game whereby the person that survives the longest without being eaten wins. This is where collaboration and gaming go hand in hand ;)

Presumably you could write a script to attack partiular individuals!

I watched the video but couldn't understand why the fragments kept flying towards the shark...is it magnetic...

Nice progress though...:D

Roman was using the physics move tool on a few of the pieces. Trying to aggravate "Bruce" I guess. Magnetic shark version is in the works but you'll need a bigger refrigerator door to make use of it. :D

For the closest avatar tracking version all ya gotta do is swim faster than your nearest neighbor.

If you watch the video you see the mouse pointer grabbing bits of the shell and throwing them at the shark where they interact to some extent (looks a bit odd in places). I thought it was a demonstration that this was real time.

When you consider how object collision works, the hardest thing to have accurately collide with other objects in realtime is a thin edge such as that on a shell. So with that in mind this video clip here is astonishing in several ways.

First off, the new morphable objects are incredibly true-to life and open up great new capabilities for every trueSpace user. If this were a program like Max you would probably be paying very handsomely for a plugin to do only that, and the plugin would exceed the entire price of trueSpace you can be sure.

Second, this new and modular Scripted Artificial Intelligence is astonishing. That shark is not just animated to follow a simple path, it is actually behaving according to several scripted rules of behavior. When you have several in a scene at once the effect of that behavioral independence is very apparent and truly awesome.

Third, breakable objects is something entirely new to trueSpace, and when Caligari decided to do it they clearly invested some serious time and brainpower in making it very functional and versatile in a physics based interactive realtime environment. It may not be flawless, yet, but this is only it's first incarnation... and it's already astonishing.

These are huge developments which empower trueSpace users in entirely new ways.

Bravo to all the Caligari Devs and to all the Beta Scriptors, many innovative new things are happening and we are definitely making huge strides together.

"Bruce?!?!" Hahahaha!!!!

I know you've been investing some very serious time in making this shark and it's behaviors realistic Glen, but "Bruce?!?!?"

You may just be the first Artificial Intelligence Designer to have developed a personal relationship with a 3D Virtual Smart Shark.:D

Hahahaha!!!

We're definitely going to have to script spearguns now!:p

Well done and thank you Glen, seriously.;)

Thanks Roman,

Great blog entry, and these sure are exciting new developments.

That's a very good idea there for Glen to add sound to his great new shark, so here's the complete (and very scary) Jaws attack sound in wav format.

Now it will be ~really scary~ in shared space....

Hi Roman,

I just wanted to take a second here to thank you and the trueSpace Developers for having focused so very long and very well on making certain that the trueSpace Real Time Workspace view is so very realistic.

In my mind this is another example of Caligari being way out in front of it's so called "competitors," a tendency which Caligari has always had.

It's not just great Realtime Artists like Marcel, either, who benefit from this realism in a real time 3D working environment, even people like me who are definitely not known to be great artists in any fashion can produce truly breathtaking results inside the everyday trueSpace7.51 Workspace without even trying to produce a "render-quality" image!

Just look at the quality of this real time screen capture of a wooden music box I was working on this week inside the trueSpace7.51 realtime workspace:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=54660&postcount=2 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=54660&postcount=2)

That's no "render," and I'm no great artist, but with trueSpace7.51 I honestly don't have to be in order to produce outstanding work these days.

And there's nothing we can see like this in real time which we cannot also reproduce in real time multi-user shared space now to explore together in person, communicate in by voice or text, and literally walk together in, being inside one anothers dreams in real time.:)

Thanks for making this a reality for us all.
