Just reading this month's 3D World magazine and there is a big feature on future trends in CGI predicted by some key names in the industry.
One suggestion is that we will see the end of 'do it all' programs and see more specialised software such as Silo etc.
However, a big thing is expected to be realtime suff for pre-viz and even render. They promise to give this much more coverage in the future.
So, I wondered if Caligari had contacted 3D World regarding the realtime possibilities of tS7.x and in particular, the stuff parva has been showing.
Pretty sure Caligari know their market much better than me but when I read his article I thought of tS and they don't feature that much in the mag which is pretty big here in europe...:D |

It's not new for them to be at the forefront, I believe they had the first solid rendering draw mode and the first widget..I could be mistaken..I'm pretty sure though...being innovative does not make you the industry lead(You know all this, because you are of reasonable intelligence....I just like to rant) it merely splits the market into apples and oranges.
and...huh..what am I talking about...must sleep. |

well, the problem is,
Caligari does not have a product named:
Maya
or
3ds max
or
Softimage XSI
or
Cinema4D
Maybe if they called their product something like:
truespaceaya
or
truespace max
then maybe the so-called 'industry leaders' would get that oh-so-needed smack in the back of the head to get their attention and take notice.
2 years from now, real-time collaboration will be 'The Thing', but Caligari's efforts in this area will not even be noticed. Even then, the so-called Industry Leaders will think it never happened. Oh well.
Pardon the gripefest. I just get really annoyed at the attitude from the "Industry Leaders" about truespace.
Truespace rocks. If the "Industry Leaders" differ then I say, "Got a comment? Then take a number and get in line".
Have a nice day,

As far as I know, I'm not aware of any 3D package that has the level of DX9 material shader access that TrueSpace has.
It's a shame that it's not exportable in a portable format because the ability to create your scenes and models exactly how they are going to look in your real-time environment is very powerful.
What's missing and where Caligari could make the largest impact is to come up with a file format that stores the HLSL info along with the object and an XNA file SDK for the format...

Selfishly what I would have liked is for Truespace to have used openGL for the realtime preview. That way I might have had a chance to use it natively on my mac now that I have started to move away from Windows.
Bootcamp is nice but I am just as well using my old pc for that rather than continuing to reboot everytime I want to use Truespace or zbrush.
One day maybe??? I can dream. :)
One thing is for sure if Truespace had hair as good as Carrara then Carrara would be out the window for me and Truespace would be my number 1 application of choice.
Cheers

One of the main reasons I bought tS7.51 this time was because of the training package combos. All that training boosted the confidence I needed to get started.
The whole time I didn't have a package to look at and even when I got the trial package, it was "stare at the interface" like a deer in headlights.
There are some lovely tools on the Workspace side, but without V-Ray, the limitations become readily apparent. Even with V-Ray, the full support of some things are not yet supported.
Collada import and export are vital, along with the standard stuff users talk about.
As it is quite apparent, a lot of the 'Pro' users of tS don't rely on one package, so when import and export is limited, one has to go hmmm and take the path of least resistance and stay on the model side with a few brave excursion into the WorkSpace side.
I'm not a fan of industrial strength applications like 3DMax and etc. as I have no need to invest thousands of dollars in the package itself and several more thousands dollars in plug-ins to put out images not many are going to see anyway.
BTW Mykyl, I like your Monkey face avatar in the Carrara forums more than the one here. :D
I've also reached the conclusion that I can use different packages 2D and 3D as part of a tool set as some packages do other things better than others.
In a software previously mentioned by another user that has "hair" :D, it has very nice tools, but in the Modeling area I feel claustrophobic and restricted.
tS7.51 definitely excels in the the free roaming space of interactivity.
I'm sure the animation releases in the next version will be much to my liking if they get delivered as Roman says they will.
Some of the 'cool things' never really get released out into Public in my opinion or perhaps its a paranoid tendency in my mind as the beta and Pro Team comments are cloaked. The things that are discovered there along with the comments from the staff and programmers of tS never appear to get down to the average user level. How many discoveries and techniques go unknown to users until someone has a "Eureka" moment and discovers them after months or years of using tS software.
Most of my "Eureka" moments have come through the training videos I've gotten with the tS7.51 package I purchased. My compliments to the authors of the videos.
I think the PDF package needs to be compiled better than it is and extracted in on complete PDF package.
Also, in the download section, the format needs to be improved. I have very fast download capabilities and when I look at the giant lists of downloads I get perplexed on which I should download. Surely someone can make two buttons - High Bandwidth (broadband) and Low bandwith (modems) to differentiate between the two and so that lists of necessary downloads are quite as confusing. Have bones1 through bones12 and bonesall and bonescomplete and bonesresource and bonestext gets very confusing in trying to figure out if the bonesall actually has ALL or it only has some of the stuff purchased.
I like the ability of import and exports in the Modeler side. Sometimes if I want to do something quick, an eps/ai file saves my bacon. I don't see how I could survive without the OBJ LUVV tsx either.
Any way, some ramblings from a madman, take it for what it is worth. :) |

I like Truespace and like that it's in a league of its own. I don't care if it's an industry leader or not. It is a friendly app for a single user. There is a lot to learn in it of course but the basic concepts of how to use each aspect is managable. You do not need a phd to set up lighting in truespace. As nowhere brain said it's apples and oranges. I hope truespace gets the respect it deserves in the area of innovating online 3d collaboration tools as well. I bet others apps will jump on this. When the current limitations of shared space are fixed it will be a wonderful thing, and it is pretty darn cool right now too. |
