Script Developers Meeting - Tuesday December 4th

It's another Tuesday here folks, and you know what that means, another fun night in the truePlace Scriptorium awaits us all together.

We try to out-do our new Tuesday Meeting Scene every week, and as most of you know now we have met already in an extremely wide variety of unusual environments (in a deep space portal, in an underwater laboratory, inside a volcano, in shark-infested shallow water, inside the calyx of a giant orchid, etcetera) and this Meeting will be no exception to the rule.;)

Tonight, we will all be meeting inside a human brain.:D

As always everyone is encouraged to bring with you any questions, ideas, scripts, scripted objects, unscripted 3D objects, or whatever else you may like to share with us all together. There will be ample opportunity provided to all who wish to present anything, and anything you'd like to discuss or share there with us all is most welcome.

Even if you have very little or no understanding of trueSpace Scripting, Shared Space Development, or Immersive 3D Desktop Development, drop by anyway... it's always an interesting and fun experience and each of us, including you, make it so every time.

I hope to see you all there for this one, it will definitely be interesting and fun.

Thanks.

Directions:

Directions for those WITH an existing truePlace password:

Option 1:

Go to the following web page and look for the "Scripting Live!" links for either truePlay or trueSpace then click the one you wish to use.
http://www.caligari.com/birdsofafeather.asp (http://www.caligari.com/birdsofafeather.asp)

Option 2:

Download the scripted objects which I created (in the following forum posts) and click them to be taken there.

For trueSpace 7.51, 7.5, and the TS Demo:

I created a new object for trueSpace7.5x users who are either unfamiliar with setting the Network Server and Portal Settings (the Demo users for instance) or are like me and just get tired of doing it manually when you are in a rush.

Just load this puppy into Workspace or any scene and then click on it, it will automatically (and harmlessly) reset your current Network Server and Portal Settings (which you can do yourself manually anytime if you wish) to match "The Scriptorium" where our Meetings are held, and it will bring up the standard Shared Space "Login" Dialog to connect you right to us.

For truePlay Users:

for truePlay users - go to the following thread and download the scripted scene there then load it in truePlay and click on the green book inside the scene.
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4459 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4459)

Directions for those WITHOUT an existing truePlace password:

(1) Getting a Password and Username to enter truePlaces:

(Our Tuesday Night Meeting is held inside a truePlace Portal (#1212) and you will need both a Password and Username to enter there which is different from your Caligari Customer Password and Username. Also be sure to get your truePlace Password and Username during Caligari business hours well before the meeting begins)
http://cart1.caligari.com/web/trueplaymainreg.aspx (http://cart1.caligari.com/web/trueplaymainreg.aspx)

(2) Instruction Page on Port Address Settings in trueSpace 7.5x:

(Note that the following instructions show you how to set the portal entry point in trueSpace to the truePlace Meetingroom (tpportal 1111) where once you arrive you will find an easel with an image on it which says "click here to enter the Scriptorium," and one you click on that image you will be instantly transported to the actual Script Developers Meeting held in tpportal 1212)
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespac...7&postcount=30 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespac...7&postcount=30)

(3) truePlace "Scripting Live1" Page: (with countdown timer in PST):
(This is the Caligari Countdown Timer and Info Page for our Tuesday Meetings)
http://www.caligari.com/ScriptLive.asp (http://www.caligari.com/ScriptLive.asp)

(4) The "connect to shared space" icon in truSpace7.5x:

The "connect to shared space" icon in trueSpace7.5x looks like two Avatars facing each other (ie: sharing space).

When you are all set and ready to connect you just need to click the appropriate icon in trueSpace and then enter your truePlaces Username and Password into the Dialog Box which will then pop up, then hit the "connect" button on the Dialog Box.

See you there folks!

One of the things we may be doing tonight will be helping Butterpaw script her new MusicBox to open and play music as a platform in it rises and spins displaying a statuette.:D

Here's the new MusicBox I made for the occasion, and perhaps if it is good enough when we are done we can also send one to Bibiana who has the same initial "B.":)

For those of you without trueSpace7.51, these are realtime screengrabs, not renders.

See you all there folks... this will be another great night for sure.:D

The object will be at the Meeting but here's a couple of screenshots and the object zipped if anyone else would like to take a stab at scripting it, and if so you can always add your own initial, I'm placing this in the Public Domain so it belongs to us all.

The zipfile follows the 2 images below.

Enjoy, and I'll see you all tonight!

That's a lovely box! Notwithstanding any other messages I've sent you, I have managed to come up with a bit of music that could be suitable. It is an arrangement I've made of a very old French tune .. I'll post is here as soon as I've converted it to mp3 (it's still in wav form) - I hope you'll be able to use it.

I'll try to attend .. although by the end of the work day (and first thing in the morning) I feel pretty ragged.. hope this bloomin' cold goes away soon! :p

maybe Mark can confirm, but I don't think we can use mp3 right now in shared space.... this needs to be addressed!

Hmm then I've totally misunderstood the project.. what is a music box without music?

I can also send as ogg, but wav is very large.

Well... here's the music.. to use as anyone wishes. L'Amour de Moy is an anonymously composed 15th Century French melody and is in the public domain.. this is just my arrangement of it, free for anyone to use as they wish.

EDIT: A SMALLER WAV FILE IS AVAILABLE IN POST #65 OF THIS THREAD (it's zipped, of course)

Hi James. Excellent! Lookin forward to seeing you there!

If you haven't logged onto the portal before, try it out before the meeting; if there's issues please post here and we'll help you out!

Butter:

I could be wrong about this; if you can convert it to mp3, go for it! I may have totally misunderstood 3dvisual dude's point; we should test if we can play mp3's in shared space, but I thought we could not at this point in time. Wav files play just fine and yeah, they're huge, which is a problem...

Hopefully 3dv can chime in on this.

Oh hey, you're feelin' sick so let's do that another time then... no problem Butter.:)

We have a hundred things we could all discuss and explore together tonight aside from the musicbox. Take a break... forget the computer for a few days and get some rest! When you have completely recovered then let's do this, there's no rush on that at all, really.

I never know what cool new scripted things folks may bring with them when they arrive at these Meetings and that's half the fun at least! People may even bring scene objects with them and we may combine them in a few interesting ways tonight too, I never know ahead of time!

Seriously... get the needed rest then let's so the musicbox. When we do, Frootee is right there, we cannot yet use MP3 in shared space but that will eventually get addressed. In the meantime we use wav format music and soundfiles, usually around 500K or less in size. I have plenty of those too if need be, no worries on that either.

See you next week and I hope you'll be feelin' great again by then.:)

Thankls for holding the fort here Froo, I was off dropping my daughter at school when all these replies came in and I appreciate your having addressed them here so quickly.

Yeah, unfortunately it will be a while longer before we Scriptors manage to harness the DirectX methods from trueSpace to enable MP3 but we'll get there eventually I'm sure.

In the meantime wav format is it for online use, but there's a zillion places online to grab free wav format sound files and music clips, you can even get radio clips, movie clips, and old tv clips free all over the net.

The musicbox can wait till next week then, no sweat. There's no shortage of things to do and discuss at all, if that ever was a problem those days are long gone now!

Should be a great night wandering around inside a brain... I can almost hear the puns already.

Thanks guy,

No prob 3dv. It's all about Teamwork!

Sorry I didn't post a reminder sooner. Late work night yesterday.

Yeah, sound and video files are a major issue it appears. So are live streaming data feeds from any comm source.

They're on the list!

Hahahaha....

Now you have me laughing my butt off in two different threads here at the same time about this... by the end of tonight we should have enough brain puns collected to write a comedy skit for Late Night With Conan!:D

By the way... at the risk of giving you even more pun ammo here this brain is absolutely huge... it can probably accomodate about 100 Avatars tonight!:p

I do have a wav of that music clip .. and it 's free from me! It looks as if it did upload but it's rather large! :(

However, if you want to do a music box.. you really need something long enough to be a tune and then you can make it repeat.. (mine is quite short, actually)

No problem really. When we script the object it will have a new Panel which opens in both trueSpace and truePlay for entering a different music file (or voice audio message) for different occasions or recipients. So we'll pop a small loop in it in shared space and then once you place it inside an offline scene and hook it up to truePlace portals like we discussed in the Immersive Desktop threads here, you can change it offline to handle a 55 meg wav format file... I know, I already did once and it worked fine even on my ancient system here!

I was rocking to Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" while walking around in an offline truePlay scene in First Person Navigation mode... didn't slow me down a bit and was clearer than a live concert!

Online a half meg is about tops for practicality so far, but in time I'm sure that will increase or we'll crack the MP3 barrier first. Either way, this same scripted music box will be applicable to any new changes as well.:)

Hi butter. You can zip it, or rar it! using a compression application, like winzip or winrar. The forums accept both *.zip and *.rar formats.
