Hi all! I just got back to work on "The Untitled" the other day when I thought of something that could be fun for the forums! It's a Windows Mix competition! Basically, the goal is to create a short piece of music using an audio editing application like Sony Soundforge or Adobe Audition. Here's the trick: Most of the sounds must be from the "Windows" folder in your "C:/" drive. Here's mine:

Could be a fun idea - will have to look to see if I have a sensible programme to use to try something like this.... Might have a copy of Fruity Loops somewhere which might do the trick...

Try Audacity...it's a great program, and best of all, it's freeware!:)

Thanks - I've heard of Audacity (and even have a copy somewhere on a magazine cover disc) but I thought it was more for editing individual sound files rather than laying down multi-track arrangements?

I've used Dance EJay for a laugh and was thinking of something more along the lines of that or Audition which I gather you use, but need it to be something free...:D

Hi Nez, Audacity is simply brilliant for multitracking arrangements (assuming you've a reasonable sound card that is). Audacity easily handles up to 8 stereo tracks at a time and by bouncing tracks (recording multiple tracks to a single track) you can mix reasonable complex arrangements. Obviously it's not protools but you can certainly do good work with it.

It will also edit single wave files as well - a superb bit of software at a totally excellent price!

The windows mix is a very fun idea!! :D

Audacity is free... I use it for multitracks.. I love it!

Audition is not free but is very good.. (according to a friend who is a very active and successful composer).

I also have Cakewalk and FL Studio Pro.. more work involved there .. but more possibilities
