Woah! Mark me down as highly impressed ( a rare occurance at my advancing years!). Great work Witchy - looking at this it's no great stretch of the imagination to be able to see you as both a magician AND a musician AND a great modeller (it's that binary thing...).

Well done.

Wheels, tyres, wiper blades, door mirrors, badges and door locks (not visible cos I forgot to turn the layer on! Doh! But they're really tiny so it's no biggie) and I think I'm done... for the exterior anyway. Occurred to me the other day that when the windows get a glass shader there'd be nothing to see into so I'd better knock up a basic interior.

Sooo, unless anyone can spot anything I've missed, here's the finished outside:

Excellent job Kate. When you compare this to your clay models its a quantum leap in modeling.

NASCAR link (http://www.madmousedesign.co.uk/resources/3DGNC.jpg) its not very realistic but can save a lot of work depending on how its viewed as in the top right og my render. This link might help you to.3D cars free (http://dmi.chez-alice.fr/models1b.html)

This is a great model Kate , you've certainly put a lot of work into the details. Can't wait to see this rendered with HDRI. My preference would be black for the paintjob.

Keep up the good work

Gonna have to disappoint on all fronts I'm afraid Chris! I have tS 6.6 so no HDRI and I'm planning a white paintjob for the first renders, but I will be doing some black ones as well later on.

When you compare this to your clay models its a quantum leap in modeling.

Surprisingly, it's not really that different. With the clay you get the basic shape and then start distorting it, with this you get the basic shape and then start refining it. What makes the main difference, I think, is the finer details which are left off the clay models. Admittedly, the clay is quicker as you can get away with 'that'll do' bits! :)

Thanks for the compliments guys, really appreciate them.

Quantam leap??..ironically, they still sculpt full size concept cars out of clay in the development progress...it's quite impressive to see really

As for the HDRI Kate, get this in the gallery when it is finished (watch that composition and lighiting)and there is a good chance that it would win...voila..tS7 as a prize-HDRI sorted...:D

Well, it's a plan...

Thanks for all the positive comments and encouragement guys and gals. Just finished the interior. Simplified it a bit cos you're not going to see a lot of it! Got to move one of the door seals a fraction and then it's onto the not quite as enjoyable task of texturing.

I've really enjoyed making this and have learnt an awful lot about trueSpace in the process so it's been good on many levels. Apart from a few stumbling blocks and head scratching moments, on the whole I've been surprised at how relatively easy this has been. When this is finished I may even make another just to see if I can do it quicker! :)

But until then, here's a peek at the finihsed cockpit:

Very well done (and fast!). Unless you plan to plaster it with hundreds of stickers, texturing shouldn't be too much of a problem I guess. I always liked the texturing process, except the uv-mapping of very detailled models which need texture maps.

One thing looks wrong though, the steering wheel is on the wrong side :p :D

At last, we see some real modelling going on here. Work posted in these forums, of late, seem to extol the "virtues" of the software rather than the skill of the artist. Can't wait to see the final result.

Once you can model a car, you can model anything.

:D :D ChrisJ, any chance of putting some dipped headlights on Charlize there?

C'mon you know you want to.....

Oh, and as you are British Kate...you will probably understand the irony here. Beautiful piece of work all the same...just a shame when someone 'jacks your thread with such a throwaway comment...gets backs up...but, never mind...

Now now boys, play nicely.... :)

I wondered how long it'd be before someone made the 'steering wheel' point. Not long! :) The simple answer is, it's on the 'right' side. :D

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. After posting the 'finished' pics I noticed I'd forgotten the seatbelts and door latches so they're now in. I won't bore you with another render of something so tiny but that is the modelling definitely, definitely finished! I found myself getting carried away and after making an openable ashtray I had to stand back and get a reality check! No more modelling unless it's something drastic.

It's now in the paint and upholstery shops so I'll show it again when the paints dry.

I could give her tailfins as well if you like Splinters, in the style of the airbrush artist Philip Castle. What about engine exhausts? And while I'm at it, a steering wheel on the right (seeing as she's from South Africa)

May as well give up my Charlize model, and try something more challenging.

Thirty five years ago Brian! The Countach was unveiled to the world in 1971, it's an old car. Even older than you!

On page 4 of this thread TWWOTW asked.......

Sooo, unless anyone can spot anything I've missed, here's the finished outside:

Well, at the risk of sounding like a total bloke, the only thing I see missing is the drop-dead gorgeous blonde with the skin-tight leather pants!!!

Oh and from where I'm standing (in New Zealand) the steering wheel is definitely on the 'right' side (that's the 'in'side :D ).
