Thanks for the feedback guys. Not complete hogwash, Stienie - there's a large element of luck at play there! Jack, I hear what you're saying about a fresnal effect on the windscreen but I've no idea how to do it so I'm kinda stuck with this at the moment. Sat on a reflective surface would be lovely, MadMouse, but then I'd ahve to model an underside as well and I really don't want to do that! :)
Anyway, today I've been playing with the lights some more and tweaking a few textures. Not a vast difference but it's getting closer (no AA yet). Comments for improving on this attempt, as usual, gratefully received!

I like the text addition, I know this is a photoshop addition, but wouldn't a barely notceable skull overlay over some of the image give it a cool look :p Awsome render btw |

looking better and better, Just a few things, I never seen one of these up close but the doors seem a bit thin, more noticable on the driver side door. other then that the model looks great.
Some of the materials could be improved, the leather seems a bit to smooth, adding a bump map to it should fix it, if you have one already increase it slightly, this will help to break up the smooth highlights and make it a little more natural looking. The rims could use a bit of shine and a slight bump map as well, if I remember correctly they were non reflective rim back then weren't they? The headlights could use some attention as well, the glass is clear like you have it but it has slight ridges on the inside. as can be seen here (http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-1980-1989/1985-Lamborghini-Countach-White-Front-Open-Doors-st.jpg).
Also if you need some reference material you can find some here (http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=lamborghini+countach&toggle=1&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-501&b=21).
Anyway hope that helps. |

Like the "Wicked" at the top :D
For the glass here's some settings for fresnel and dielectric using Lightworks that you could try out. You need two parallel surfaces for it to work, otherwise it will the refraction will bend the light and you won't see clear through. So make sure that you have double sided rendering turned on so the second surface bends the light back straight and if you're using 7.1 you need to make sure the "single sided" check box in the stack view is not checked.
For my example I took a cube, scaled it thin, added some loops, then bent it into a windshield shape:

Hope that helps! :)

Thanks Daybe, I'd forgotten to bump the leather, sorted now. It's subtle but makes a difference. The 'ridges' in the indicator lamp cover aren't actually ridges, they're sort of strengtheners in the glass/plastic. They are already texture mapped onto the covers but at this res don't show.
Thanks for the glass settings Jack but I don't have tS7 so no Fresnal transparancy for me. :-(
However, no-one noticed that the inner door panel was poking through the outer door! Including me!
Fixed the panel shape, bumped the leather tweaked a couple of other bits 'n' bobs and, barring any faults found by anyone, I think <drumrolll>..... I'm done! Here she is:

Looks Great, good job all around, and finally an anti-aliased render.;) Just out of curosity did you try the Yamaneko Fresnel shader, that might work for you.
Never noticed the panel thourgh the door until you mentioned it and then I really had to look for it. |

Looks good.
You do have the dielectric shader though which is Lightworks older version of a fresnel shader. You'd have to experiment with the settings a bit to get it right though since what I posted wasn't quite there yet.
Another option would be to fake it using the mapped phong or mapped metal and throw on a map that makes it more reflective the closer you get to the edges.
Congratulations on a very nice project.

Thanks for all the positive comments chaps.

The 'paint-work' is the Yamenko Fresnal shader. I know it can do a glass effect but I couldn't get anything decent looking out of it.

How could I not? Bird needs a decent set of wheels! :-) Don't know when I'll do it though. |

Somehow I always imagined Bird would drive an Austin A30 panel van like wallace and gromits! Bird clearly has somewhat more eclectic tastes!
Lovely work Kate and thanks for sharing the progress |

Well done Kate, a lovely piece of work and a clear winner in my book. Upgrade to tS7 for you then? Or do you already have it...;) |

Blimey! I'm utterly gobsmacked! Thanks guys, I really appreciate the comments. I still can't believe it.
Without wanting to make an 'acceptance speech' there are a few people that I really need to thank for the whole experience. Vizu, who convinced me to try the PolyTools in the first place, Frank for the heads up on the shader, Geneg, Trebs and Spacekdet for feedback on final tweaks and everyone who gave encouragement during the build process. The whole point of the exercise was to learn new things and this is just the cherry on the top!

Thanks Paul. Nope, don't have 7, couldn't afford to upgrade. Guess I've got a host of new things to learn again!
I heard rumors this month's prize IS a Lamborghini...
If only!!!
Thanks again everyone. I'm off to do the silly happy dance one more time..... |

CONGRATS KATE!
Well deserved. It was a mere 4 years ago that Kate descended onto the tSML to pluck up the courage to show off her 'Carpen Tree' image. I knew then that she had the talent, her October win just proves it to all.
In her honor we're holding a P A R T Y in IRC #trueSpace. We've cleaned off the old couch, picked up the trash on the floor, and I'm opening a vintage bag of Cheetos circa 2002 just for the occasion.
Way to go Kate!

I didn't need my crystal ball to see this win coming - it was so well deserved and so obviously a winner that I didn't even enter a picture this month!
Go on, do another happy dance - I know you want to!     |
