Sunday December 30th - Developers Outreach
Hi folks,
This coming Sunday we will be having our third "Developers Outreach" weekly Sunday meeting and workshop, the last one of this year.
These meetings are held weekly on Sundays starting at 12:00PM PST (on the Caligari Clock: http://www.caligari.com/CaligariClock.asp (http://www.caligari.com/CaligariClock.asp) ) but if you can't make it at the start time drop in anytime afterward, they are always very interesting meetings with very lively open discussions.
About this upcoming meeting:
For those of us here in the Caligari Community this coming year truly holds far greater genuine promise for each of us than any year before it. We stand together before it like soldiers arrayed for victory, empowered with tremendous and growing capabilities, the future is ours for the taking.
Many of us have now chosen to resolutely press forward together by defining and seizing business opportunities worldwide in this coming year and beyond, opportunities for us each to derive significant financial reward through the utilization of Caligari Immersive Technologies, capabilities we alone posess.
As we already discovered in our brief but numerous assessments in our previous Sunday meetings together, before us in 2008 truly unprecedented business opportunities appear at virtually every glance just waiting for us to approach them. We are each ready now to press into them to make them our own, and starting in January that's exactly what we'll be doing together every week.
This next Sunday falls just prior to New Year's Eve, and as such will be a meeting comprised largely just of open discussion and collaborative thought.
As we press into January, however, it is my intention with these workshop meetings to focus rapidly on specific markets which we will certainly be approaching directly and immediately together. So we have one very casual meeting left now as we begin this new Sunday Developers Outreach approach together.
If you are reading this and have not attended our previous Sunday meetings, all of which were very exciting indeed, you have this one final opportunity of 2007 to still get in here on the groundfloor of this new collaborative marketing endeavor, an opportunity you really shouldn't miss.
Come January we will be pressing forward together in several new marketing directions simultaneously, a few we have already defined together, others we will determine in this next Sunday meeting.
The markets we have already chosen together to approach represent very significant income potential for each of us, they are global markets which 10 thousand of us at once could not begin to saturate, so there is more than enough room for everyone here to very easily find your own place in all these opportunities already, and we have only begun.;)
Initially we will utilize the Scriptorium Portal in truePlace for these meetings, (tpportal.caligari.com / portal 1212) but that will hopefully change very soon as we get underway together in this.
I would like to secure a dedicated portal for this effort on the truePlace server to enable us to work in several development teams on simultaneous projects in the coming year all week long in addition to our weekly meeting being held on the same portal on Sundays. Additionally, having a dedicated portal for these workshops would enable us to readily use it for numerous Temporary Marketing Outreach Events throughout 2008, where we intend to invite new markets to come experience shared space for the very first time through truePlay, with an eye toward their investment.
In the unlikely event of a server crash during any of our meetings we have designated the trueSpace server (tsportal.caligari.com) Meetingroom (portal 1111) as an alternate but since this alternate server is a trueSpace-only server, folks using truePlay to access the meeting in the event of a server crash will not be capable of logging in there with truePlay, they must use the trueSpace7.5Demo or trueSpace7.xx directly.
About all Developers Outreach meetings:
"Developers Outreach" will be an extremely active new "Community workshop," focusing very specifically on the following things:
1) 3D Immersive Scene Design and Marketing
Developing our individual skills together (both individually and in focused voluntary teams) in the specific direction of designing immersive scenes for direct personal income. In this part of the workshop we will be examining and developing 3D Immersive Scenes for actual sale, lease, and licensing, worldwide.
There are numerous ways to secure an income through 3D Immersive Scene Design both offline and online (shared space portal packages, shared space server packages, Immersive truePlay CD's, etcetera) and we will be discussing them all together. Beyond that, in each case we will also actually be "going for it," both individually and in teams, the objective at these workshops being actual income rather than passive education.
How long it takes us each to begin securing real income from these workshops will of course be in direct relation to how much time and focus we each invest in these efforts. You alone will be determining in each case how to approach specific markets, although you will have a lot of help in that regard. So you could market inexpensive CD's in your area, or take a more profitable approach and design either portal scenes to license or server packages to market worldwide, the choice is entirely yours. One thing is certain though, there are ways to make a very good income with 3D Immersive Scene Design, and some of them could be genuinely lucrative.
2) Outreach Event Design and Implementation
In addition to identifying and approaching specific markets for income with our individual designs, we will also be "testing the waters" by designing scenes together which will be specifically targeted in their design to attract entirely new markets to shared space and trueSpace investment.
This will entail identifying markets which we decide would be "fun to approach," and designing both Introductory Imersive truePlay CD's and Temporary Portal Scenes together where we will hold occasional events designed to impress them with the potentials of shared space, and invite them to these events directly through the dissemination of Immersive CD's and/or downloadable Immersive truePlay Scenes.
This approach could of course lead to related income in several ways, but the primary distinction between these "outreach" approaches and the "marketing" approaches discussed above will be that these "outreach" approaches will just be more of "a fun thing to try together," more of a "shot in the dark" than a meticulously designed and focused business approach.
3) Shared Space Development Workshop
We all benefit from advancements in shared space, especially those of us with an eye toward profiting from it directly. In the course of the months ahead we will be encountering entirely new ways together to develop shared space and we will be sharing them openly as always.
The genuinely tremendous talent and innovation of the Caligari Community will always be introducing new and more wonderful capabilities and activities to shared space settings in the years ahead.
In the Shared Space Development Workshop we will be constantly watching for and discussing together new ways in which we may adopt and adapt new scripting developments for shared space application and innovation. There will be no focus here on income at all, rather this particular aspect of the Sunday meetings will be focused on how we can immediately utilize new script developments in shared spaces for the benefit of everyone.
--------------------------------------
This has been a tremendous year for us all here in the Caligari Community and the coming year is already showing very clear signs of being exponentially better for us all than this year was. Hopefully this new initiative here may in time prove to be something very advantageous for each of us, and toward that end let's give it a go together and see where we can take it in 2008.
See you all Sunday!

Regarding open forum discussion here about specific Target-Markets:
At these meetings we have already discussed specific markets which we would like to approach together in 2008, and this coming Sunday we will again be discussing many new markets as well, some of these we will agree to "Target."
In many cases approaching specific new markets can be a somewhat sensitive topic in general, so I would like to ask eveyone participating in these Sunday Developers Outreach meetings and workshops to please refrain as much as possible from openly discussing specific Target-Markets here in the forums, at least until those of us in a given Market-Targeted Team have an opportunity to decide that the time may be right to do so.;)
Thanks,

A quick note on our upcoming January 6th meeting (the one after this next one).
On January 6th we will take several of the target markets which we have previously selected together to approach and begin to form teams to tackle various aspects of design and marketing in relation to each. Each of us will be free to simultaneously join as many or as few of these teams as we each wish and to assume whatever roles in each team we each wish to assume provided that all others on a given team have no objections in that regard.
This will entail each of us volunteering wherever we each wish to accomplish the design and development of immersive interactive scripted scenes tailored to each specific market we each choose to approach. We will produce several simultaneously each month for different markets.
Each scene, once completed to the satisfaction of those preparing it, will be used both online and offline in approaching the specific market which each is designed to attract. In an offline capacity they will be saved to CD along with an HTML introduction to Caligari Immersive Technology and Branded by the particular Immersive Design Team who created it, for exploration via truePlay by prospective investors.
These same CDs will also be used (in addition to prepared e-mail templates) to invite the recipients to online multi-user portal events containing a similar scene on designated dates where we will meet them, introduce them first hand to the potentials of shared space investment, invite others with similar interests worldwide to the same events, and repeat the events if enough investment interest appears to be evident on a monthly single date basis as long as that interest appears to hold viable promise to us.
I have already prepared a list of those markets we have discussed to date and will be adding to it one more time based on the discussions to take place among us on December 30th. There are excellent and viable markets which we have already chosen, so one more day of discussing others should give us all we need to begin digging right in in January together.
We will always be keeping our eyes and ears open to new market potentials after the meeting on December 30th, but the focus of the actual meetingtime will more and more shift to that of defined workshops which will be active on Sundays as well as throughout the week.
As always, be sure to jot down any thoughts you have throughout the week pertaining to markets and pertaining to ways in which we can bring increased interactivity through scripting to existing and future shared spaces.
The very topmost priority of the "Shared Space Development" workshop segment at every Sunday meeting will be that of finding new ways together to improve the experience of shared spaces for everyone, with a definite eye toward the creation of meaningful activities and roles for users of shared spaces, roles and activities which we hope to immediately incorporate into them in 2008 for the benefit of all.
We also, of course, intend to help one another in these projects to develop our personal skills in relation to immersive scene design and in relation to the use of scripting for interactivity, but no one will be expected to carry the load alone in any specific project, we will all be joining in together to help each other in every way as we proceed in all this throughout the year together.
So if you have concerns that you may personally not have skills equal to any of these tasks - don't worry about that at all!!!- we will help you develop those skills together, all of us, that's one of our primary objectives and will remain so all year.

Thanks guy, I'll look forward to talking with you there on the 30th then!
If you wish you may also want to describe there what you and I have discussed for your project too. Who knows... maybe enough folks would be interested in that to help with it in these upcoming workshops too.:)
See you there!

Thanks Paul,
I'm sure they will, it's just an idea that's right for the times. No matter what we do in outreach efforts you can be sure it will have an impact on the number of very new users popping into truePlaces on a frequent basis. Here at the forums we've gotten used to them and tend to take them for granted naturally, but they will be improving dramatically soon this year and there will be new portals popping up all over in 2008 for sure.:)
There's one very big and very easy market we'll be discussing Sunday that I definitely plan to go after right away in all this so I hope you get a chance to drop in Sunday, I think you'll like this one a lot.;)
We'll pretty much be wrapping up our markets list this next meeting so I hope to see you there, your input there is appreciated a lot by us all and we may just have a few ideas left that you'll just love to kick around with us all!
Thanks again and hope to see you there!

Great! It'll be good to finally be able to really talk with you there guy!:)
I hope my mic doesn't go through it's intermittant mode on me again, but if it does at least you'll be able to talk and I can kick back and listen! Hahahaha!
I've gotten better a bit at two-fingered typing rapidly because of my audio system inconsistencies anyway, so I'll be a bit more ready to carry on the discussions in text chat while everyone else has voice if need be... no sweat.
See you there guy, this will be a great meet for sure!;)

Well it's Sunday again so here's the Caligari Clock Link:
http://www.caligari.com/CaligariClock.asp (http://www.caligari.com/CaligariClock.asp)
When that clock hits 12:00 we'll be starting another Developers Outreach workshop meeting in the truePlace Scriptorium. Yes, you can be late but you may miss a lot if you are... even so, don't miss this entirely.;)
In the event of a truePlace Server Crash we are designating the alternate trueSpace Server Meetingroom as the place we will immediately go to to continue any disrupted meeting discussions.;)
All links are provided below.
This will be a very interesting open discussion today about all aspects of developing and marketing Caligari Immersive Technologies at all levels. We have already selected among ourselves quite a few very interesting markets to potentially approach together in January and today we will be wrapping up that list and focusing together on the specific ones we wish to simultaneously approach first in January based on marketing practicality and estimated overall development time to product. Development begins January 6th.:)
It is recommended to come to these meetings with XP rather than Vista due to the current (and no doubt temporary) issues with Vista audio in shared spaces, and it is also recommended to come with either trueSpace or the trueSpace Demo rather than truePlay in case of a server crash in which event truePlay will be unable to access our trueSpace-only backup server portal where we would immediately re-convene our meeting.
truePlay Users Only:
If you do come with truePlay1.3 you can access the Scriptorium portal in truePlace by going to post #4 in the following thread and downloading the scene I have provided there which follows the images in that post. That scene can then be unzipped and loaded into truePlay1.3 via "file" and "load" and once loaded you may enter it in First Person Navigation and simply click on the Green Book in that scene which will open a new truePlay window and take you right to the Scriptorium.
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4459 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4459)
trueSpace Users Only:
If you are using either trueSpace or the trueSpace Demo, you can load the RsScn file I have provided in this post here instead... the easel on the left when clicked will harmlessly reset your trueSpace Network destination to the Scriptorium Server and Portal (the primary location for our meeting today), and the easel on the right will harmlessly reset your trueSpace Network destination to the TrueSpace-only Server's Meetingroom portal (the secondary location we will use as a backup room in case of a server crash at the Scriptorium Server).
In both cases a new Login dialog window will pop up where you enter your username and password as always and hit the "Login" button to join us.
Of course if you are already familiar with how to reset your Network destinations manually you can simply do that instead... this is just the "lazy man's approach" to get there... your choice.:p
Manual Network Settings:
Scriptorium Address = tpportal.caligari.com / port# 1212
BackupServer Address = tsportal.caligari.com / port# 1111
Lazy Man's Approach:

OK folks... here we go...
This meeting today is going to be great. Be sure to read Posts Number 1, 2, 3, and 17 above in this thread and plan to be there today at 12:00PM Caligari Time (realtime clock link provided in post 17 above).
Among the many things we will be doing together today, I'm going to explain to everyone a very simple, realistic, and conservative way to turn an immersive 3D server setup investment into a 200 to 600 percent return on investment in 12 months flat. You'll be amazed at how easy that really is. Then we will "role play," and you will show me how to achieve a return on my investment, which would include paying you.
We'll also be discussing a few more new markets and finalizing a list today of those we wish to simultaneously approach together starting on January 6th.
There is also the distinct possibility we may have a certain guest dropping in today with considerable insight into virtual-reality related European markets for Caligari Immersive Technologies, a friend of the Community here who has been absent for a very long time but is returning to join us all now in 2008 with his focus in exactly the same direction we are headed together here.
These are informative and exciting meetings in general, but today's meeting is one you should definitely not miss!;)
See you all there!

Well, that was one great four hour meeting for sure!:D
It was so dynamic that we didn't manage to find the time to limit our target market focus a great deal although we did make some progress in that direction. Next Sunday we will have to devote the first half of the workshop discussions to that I think, but we will in fact start on the ones we choose that very same day together.;)
As indicated in post# 2 in this thread let's keep the content of the Sunday meetings in the meetings themselves rather than discuss them here for the reasons indicated in that post, thanks.
I'll see you all again no doubt this next Sunday, I only wish we could tap the energy at these meetings and sell it to Las Vegas.:D
Great people, great discussions, and a great thing we have begun together here.
Thanks everyone,

Ahh damn, missed it again.
I admit I don't put much time into this either but would it be possible to have a count down object in the meeting place so one can tell exactly when the meetings starts?
This way it would be so easy for me and others waiting, I usually ends up sleeping an hour away from the start and never sure exactly when it should have started, one hour here or there but never when I thought...

I used to miss things a lot too, so a few months ago I searched the web for free daily planners. I found a free program called Exstora. You can schedule alert messages to pop up at certain times on certain days. You can even set it up so the message repeats every week, 2 weeks, 1month, 1 year, etc.. So for instance, I have the Animators meeting set to go off every 2 weeks at a specific time. It's a pretty good little program IMO. I use it all the time.
It looks like there is a version 2 now:
