Hexagon 2 on sale now for less than 15.00

http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=6052

Some really good tutorials by EZ in the Hexagon forum.

Good news is that it is cheap and a very good modeler.

Bad news, it's probably no longer supported for upgrades?

Oh, today is the last day I think (31 Jan)

Nice modeller, shame I have no time to mess with it. I bought it for something stupid like 10p when Daz took it over last year?...:D

I don't know where you saw that, but it's news to me. They brought out a patch mid 2007, and have been working on Carrara 6 ever since.

Dunno about the Daz member thing. I guess, start to buy it, if the price is different, then don't buy it. :)

Actually, it's an OEM CD box version only, so with shipping, it's really gonna cost $29.80 . Still quite cheap.

I managed to put it into my shopping cart without it asking anything about platinum club membership.

Delivery probably depends on where you live - might cost more to Australia!

I've never used it so how do Hexagon's tools compare to tS's (workspace and modelside)? Easy to use and friendly or great but quirky or ...(submit your own description!)

I think Hex is pretty much where trueSpace should be as far as modeling goes.

It's difficult to compare them without writing an essay, but Hex pretty much allows you to model however you like.

It was set up by an accomplished modeler, who seems to have really thought through his ideal setup. Things like control-drag extrusion are really nice. It's all the little comforts like this that make Hex my modeler of choice.

Workspace's modeling tools are hardly torture, it's my second favorite at the moment. Maybe 7.6 will bring them home.

Also, wings was really good last time I used it as well. I also like gsculpt, although nobody seems to use it. There really are an embarassment of riches in the modeling stakes these days.

Hexagon is a very nice modeler but nothing ever reaches

(in my opinion ) Moi 3d ! I´ve used many modelers.

Silo is fantastic too ! Whats so great about Moi is that

there are no problems with booleans. They work like butter.

Even booleans on curves etc. And everything uses snapping.

IMHO fastest and most precise modeler ever !

You have to try it out to believe it !

Its worth every cent ...and there is still aworking beta

until end of February . Its easy to learn too !

Since I have it most other modelers are unused.

Moi probably is very good but way out of my price range! Hexagon2 on special even with the international postage is about the equivalent of a new release DVD. That's a price I can afford.

If anyone has used Hexagon what are the uv tools like? (Mostly I've used the free version of uvmapper - its limited but it makes sense to me especially the material based selection ability. The onboard uv tools in tS leave me scratching my head as do roadkill/blender.)

I had a play with Hexagon for the first time yesterday and I was very impressed. Intuituve UI and a great range of modelling tools; looks like my kind of modeller. I hear the UV is pretty good on there as is the displacement and soft paint. Paid peanuts for it and hopefully it will integrate well with Carrara Pro...more tools for the toolset eh?

MOI was not my sort of thing really. I have Shade 7 lurking around here too. So many apps, so little time.....

Oh yeah - I hear that! :D

I'm glad to hear what you say - I ordered Hexagon over the weekend - just seemed like too good a price to turn down. Might install it on one of the machines at work and mess around with it at lunchtimes!

It realy depends on what you need !

If a polygon modeler is what you want then Hexagon

is a very good modeler . I have it for over a year

and its realy good.

Moi 3d is totaly different application. if you do a lot

of constructing... then there is nothing out there to beat it.

Its as precise as a cad program ... !

If you ask me about it I dont want to miss it any more.

Rather go with less food !;)

One that is very good and is free is wings !

Thats just a download ....:)

Wings is cool I use that - and have it on a machine at work to mess around with at lunchtimes. When I first got hold of Wings I set myself task of building a head every night for a week. They got noticably better every night. Did the same with the new polytools in tS 7.5 and will try again with Hexagon when it arrives. Its a great way to learn a new tool set.

Hard to say really Peter, sometimes a program just doesn't grab you. Personal opinion and all that. You clearly rate it and are enthusiastic about it's potential...I could not find the enthusiasm to persevere at the moment...and I tried it 2 or 3 times.

Each to their own eh?

Maybe later...:)

My copy arrived on Monday here in Melbourne. It's great! I was able to do a few things without having to read any of the manual.

Did you pay for the UPS shipping (13.06)? They only paid 2.80 on the mailer. I don't care really considering the overall price of the app but jeezzzzz.

Hey TigreStripe, $2.80 here also - almost %500 mark-up for taking it to the post office! Still its hard to be cranky when the software itself was so cheap.

By the way have you been to Daz and downloaded the updates (2.01, 2.1 & 2.2) You have to get all 3 and install them in sequence. Over 40mb each! You can access by logging in at Daz clicking on the support menu option and going to downloads and updates.

peterHi RAYMAN,

From your many posts on this, I do believe you really like this program. It as been a while since I looked at this, and I will agree (from new download) it as certainly progressed. I am familiar with nerbs 3d, so easily found my way around. Yes, it is nice, and certainly I will take longer to look at this latest release.

Yup, I got 2.1. Apparently 2.2 has a few bugs. Something to do with importing meshes. If you have 2.2 installed, what does it say on the fixed list? 2.1 seems stable enough.

Be sure and do the tutorials in the manual and do the tutorials that are free on the DAZ Hexagon forum by the user EZ.

He's a really good teacher and delivers the message well. Good luck.

Burnart, I have Hexagon but never use it for long time. because the program have some serious bugs. And I think upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 only remove some feature that cause Hexagon crash. So my advise is please save your money for several months until you can buy Silo (if you want a polygon medeler) or MoI (if you want a Nurb modeler).

I currently have MoI, is good for modelling precision object and not advise for modeling human/animal characters. If you want modeling chararter for animation it later a suggest you to save money for buy Silo.

On time of waiting until you have enough money for buy Silo or Moi. you can use your trueSpace, wing3D, and Blender.

If you already bought Hexagon, you'll know how to avoid Hexagon crash after severals crashed. :D

Thanks Johnny for the advice - couple of things though, I only bought Hexagon because it was on special so if its a bit buggy so be it, although having said that I haven't experienced any significant problems thus far. Occasionally the screen-drawing gets a little bit screwed up but minimise and maximise cleans it up. I have the 2.2 update installed but again I have to say I've not experienced any real problems.

Good question about what 2.2 is actually fixing - can't find any updated feature or bug fix lists. Not sure if it gave me one at the time of installation or not. Oh well as long as its not actually crashing all the time....

I'm sure Silo and Moi are great programs they are just out of my price range.

I've looked at Blender but I simply don't like anything about its setup and interface. I just don't get it. Seems mind-numbingly over complicated to me. But thats just my opinion - I know lots of people swear by it.
