Splinter I understand you very well. I too worked for a company for 11 years that let everyone go. It was sad but at the same time an opportunity in disguise.
Your situation I can sympathize with having children to feed is also does not make it easier. I apologize if I used the wrong term bitter, maybe the lack of communication between caligari and you has made you a bit worried.
No apology necessary Behzad, I am just a little confused by the whole thing. I have a day job that pays the mortgage and work for Caligari is a labour of love more than anything but I am not sure I am working for Caligari any more or if there even is a Caligari.
I heard the news of the 'acquisition' mere minutes before the rest of you so it is not like it was a long held secret...I am still shocked there were no signs of it coming.
I think there is a lack of communication full stop. I have talked to some dev's, team caligari, ambassadors and Beta Testers yet I still know nothing more than the rest of you. |

In theory GameSpace is a seperate product with its own website and forums so may not be directly affected (hoping). |

Seems to me that, in addition to the new Virtual Earth capabilities to be supported, truespace will continue to be developed as before. I simply do not see anything getting removed. Removed functionality means, high user attrition. And I seriously doubt MS nor Caligari want that.
Later,
Froo
I would believe that if there had been a Microsoft product division that had taken over Caligari, like the Office team.
However, now there is the Virtual Earth team that has taken over responsibility for Caligari.
The Virtual Earth team don't release software. The writing is on the wall - MS don't care about Truespace as a product. They want to use it for a service.
MS can afford to shutdown Truespace if they want the technology and I believe that they will based on under which division they put Caligari. |

Your correct there Splinters, I'm not telling you to shut up ;)
Just mind what your telling us, you don't know but this might be a good thing for you, millions of icons for all kinds of stuff :p
Think what I meant were don't burn your bridge, allways hard to do expressions with a language that's not your native one...
And I don't mean to offend anyone, sorry if so... I allways as well say what I think... or I think a minute and shut up, it's just not worth it... or it's fun...

There is no problem there Ambrose, good to speak your mind as long as it is honest and does not hurt anyone directly. I am not sure what you mean by 'burning your bridges'. I am no longer officially under an NDA but respect Roman and the team and try to work professionally for them. That is why I have not disclosed anything of what I do for them. It is no secret that I design the icons; just check the 'About' box in tS, and it is therefore no stretch to imagine that I may have done the icons for 7.6...so far.
So NDA or not, safe as houses..I think..;)
I have only questioned who I may now work for, if Roman still has the autonomy to hire and fire me so to speak. Nothing more and nothing defamatory. I have nothing but respect for Caligari and Roman and my experience with them/him has been brilliant. They have advanced my career as an illustrator more than I could have ever managed myself. No gripes there, just the same confusion as the rest of this forum. |
