Hi,

I was going to pose this question last week (honestly!) but never got round to it, and now I have been overtaken by events...

I was wondering whether it was technically and practically possible to have truePlay as a plug in to MS Internet explorer. I have in a small way been involved in exploring the real-time possiblities of trueSpace (see link on front page to beta cell project). I have felt that this has tremendous potential but their needed to be integrated into some web tool that everybody has access to. For educational and research purposes it then becomes may be possible to build a trueSpace 3D web site (resurrecting the whole idea of ISpace) that people explore, putting the whole thing in the bigger public domain. I was worried that Caligari was too small a concern to make an impact on the bigger field even though I felt they deserved to...maybe now..

but I am a relative ignoramus when in comes to the technical issues faced to achieve this.

I hope this is another positive thread...:)

I would think that would be unnecessary and here's why.

Think of an online game - you download the software, then play through the game's Interface.

The same could be done through truePlay or whatever Microsoft decides to call it.

Hi James,

It may sound unnecessary, but Garage Games have just done a similar thing - they are releasing multiplayer online games that feature true 3D rendering and it is all embedded in the browser.

Clearly they feel this makes it more accessible for folks, probably the casual gaming market, and of course it will make it more of a community - you just email the "web page" to someone and they can join you in a frag fest! This is easier than asking folks to download separate programs for each game, then run the right program to join their friend, and so on.

So embedding 3D into a browser does have some advantages, at least according to Garage Games :) You can see more on that here:

As for the technical possibility for tP, I can't really comment - as far as I know, most anything can be put into an ActiveX wrapper and embedded into a browser, but I'm not an expert. So whether that is indeed true of tP, whether it would be of interest to do, etc, I couldn't say.

The InstantAction thing is kind of interesting though (I always like to keep my eye on all developments in gaming, social networks etc, as those are personal interests of mine!).

HTH!
