Here is a thought: rather than thinking the worst try to picture this scene:
Roman pushes the door open and steps in from the rain. "Damn this weather, " he says to Bibiana who is preparing him a stiff drink. "I cannot believe my flight was delayed this long, the recent bad weather has knocked everything out across 20 states!"
Bibiana offers him the drink cautiously and waits for him to sit down.
" I have been in meeting after meeting for days, I could only even manage a short entry into my blog the other day to let folks know before it leaked to the net. I haven't even had time to look in on the forums, pass me the laptop would you dear".....
Bibiana reluctantly hands him the laptop, coughing to break the silence.
" I really need to check in with the Beta team and see how B99 is going, we need to release soon. I can't wait to see how the forums have taken the great news".
"Roman dear....before you log in..."
"Not now Bibiana, I am just looking at the forums now"....
Crash!!
..... ....... .....
"You dropped your drink Roman....Roman?......Roman?!?"

It was worth a try to raise your spirits (excuse the pun!). Now maybe if you picture it again with your favourite cheesy 'soap opera' music it will seem a bit funnier...:p |

Maybe, just maybe what Microsoft have bought into is in fact trueplay and the technology behind it rather than the tS app for creation. A bit like the Half Life development stuff based on Softimage which still developed as a pro-app. With so much cynicism (yes, I am guilty too!) why not an optimistic thought. Perhaps Roman fought for the rights to develop tS as a dedicated full featured 3D creation tool in return for introducing basic modelling and texturing tools to trueplay to make it more than just a viewer.
Best of both worlds then. It does make a certain kind of sense; tS has been around for years but nothing like this happens. Workspace is only half complete but the 'realtime' part which is effectively truePlay has been proven for a good year now. Collaboration takes off, trueserver becomes a reality then MS step in. I dont think they suddenly took a shine to the bridge, Vray or the old model side so what does that leave....
I am very probably wrong but looking at it like this at least leaves you feeling positive...:) |

i really hope thats the case, that we end up with the best of everything, and that is a possibilty, but with so little solid info available i can't help expecting the worst. |

I think Roman probably knew that there would be mixed feelings in the community. Deals like this usually take some time to achieve, so he probably had time to think things through and prepare a bit. :)
I do wish more detail would be given to end the speculation though, but we don't know the reasons why nobody has spoken yet. They could still be working out the details for all we know. We'll just have to wait and see. ;) |
