The dust is starting to settle a little and the Vodka is making everything look rosy tonight. I am looking at my own comments here and some read like the knee jerk reaction they are.
I imagine looking back at them in a week or so and feeling very differently. I am aiming for positive thinking here so bear with me:
Roman finally recovered from his trip and returned to the forum. He checked with MS and was able to give more details of the merger.
He explained how truePlay was the basis for the new MS software and that progress was moving on apace with 7.6 thanks to the new resources available to them. They had been able to sort out a good few bugs and even implemented some new feaures they had been struggling with.
The new resources and money had allowed for the integration of most mainstream renderers: mental ray, maxwell, brazil etc. in 7.7 and Vray was being developed to almost match the commercial version.
tS8 would be the next major release and the one where we would see the benefits of the 'merger'... details to follow.
To thank the loyal users, tS 7.6 would be a free upgrade to 7.5 users and reaonably cheap to the rest.
Fur, cloth and fluid dynamics would be in 7.7 thanks to the resources of Microsoft who are keen to raise the profile of their only 'fully fledged' 3D package.
Many more exciting developments are taking place and the blogs will be much more frequent from now on...
Now, if you can imagine these actually happening, you should have a nice warm positive feeling in your belly and be looking forward to the future.
Now did I mention the vodka......:p |

I would say Ts 7.6 are allready done or very close so.
They set this deal get some breathing and then ship it out when they've decided the strategy for all this, if they haven't done that allready as well.
It might look like all this is just happening but I think there's more to it, Roman nows what he does ;)

Wow, I'm suddenly getting a change of heart! :) In the past, ;you could easlily say that I had looked upon MS from an "Apple" perspective, though in recent months, I've seen a bunch of signs that MS is starting to really make some positive changes.
Here are some examples:
1. It looks like MS is working to fix the known problems with Windows. Windows 7 (that's the codename for the version of Windows after Vista) looks like it will have very clean code, and will take full advantage of new hardware.
2. The new zunes are quite exciting! I got one for Christmas, and it really is better than the ipod!
3. These new developments!
Soon I'll be quite loyal to MS if they stay on this track! |

Wow, you are the second person to ask if these are facts.
Just musing here, taking an optimistic look at how the future might pan out. I really do not have any idea about tS' future; I was just trying to paint a rosy picture!
What I do know about tS7.6, or earlier versions before they were released, I have never disclosed as I work as if a Beta member and honour the NDA I once signed. If any of this turns out to be true then I simply got lucky in my guessing!!
It is meant to be an uplifitng thread but if it is going to end up getting me into trouble......:(
It is a 'you are angry and confused now but imagine how you would feel in a week's time if you read this' type of thread...nothing more, nothing less.
Could you read the last two lines of that quote again Paul. |

Oh, and before it seems like I have gone into hiding for revealing top secret information...
I am going on holiday for a few days to a remote cottage with no internet where MS can't find me.
Seriously though, I hope things are a bit clearer for everyone around here when I get back.
Let's hope the British weather holds up.
See ya later. |

Uhhh.... what??
I turn away from this site for 2 wks and what? MS joins Caligari? Oh wait... it's the other way around. Da bigger money always wins, I forgot. Anyway... having read thru a bunch of posts on this matter now, I very much understand the nakedness the long-time Loyals feel; heck I felt exactly the same way when I read abt this... and then I smiled a warm smile.
Be warned: this is the 'airhead' part of the thread comin'
Here's some inside info... (ok, inside from my mind {I just love remote viewing; it does work, just not perfectly} I had mentioned in past posts around here that I thought this year would be great for tS... just like many of you have posted. I wasn't complete with my answer though. What I avoided saying was... "in mid/late January, tS will make a big announcement". That's what I had 'seen'. I assumed that meant the release of 7.6, but not having 'seen' very clearly, I avoided sayin anything specific. Turns out I was right again (I'm tellin ya all, RV does work, but assumptions ruin the feed) - the reason I looked at this subject at all was cuz in Nov/Dec I needed to know, with all my crashing headaches, whether to wait for 7.6, or move on. I need to get work done, I don't have time for bs.
Anyways... wanna know what else I've seen? (it got murky after a while; too much guessin' got in the way) - not clearly seen, but...
tS will be 'swallowed' a bit, but, tS will become THE CG art app... and Maya, is in trouble. Ya want timeframe? The next version will be on our puters in abt a month or so, the industry will be in upheaval this year, and in abt 11 or 12 months from now, ..... well, read the part abt "THE CG art app" again.
So there. :D
PS: umm... hey Big Boy? You let Roman and his team do their job - I know what your thinkin, but let em do the job they know, and you'll find a Very nice end-of-year profit and residual income gift under your Xmas trees.
Have a Wondrous year
Drew
PSS: how's that for optimism Splinters? Now, you gonna share that bottle or what? |
