When internet connection speed become more faster than now available faster conection, you'll see high detail and high resolution version on future VE.

I think the current low resolution only because they want more visitors ;)

Certainly I like the first image better. :) You forgot the third image though, the one from Google Earth. Virtual Earth's buildings look way better then Google Earth's. Then again, nothing beats real life. ;)

Good idea.
Here it is (http://www.spacekdet.com/junkdrawer/screencap_det_ge.jpg) in Google Earth.
Not as many 3D buildings, but the textures look more detailed.
You can see the GM badge on the GM HQ on the right and also someone did a nice job on the Art Deco masterpiece (http://www.spacekdet.com/junkdrawer/screencap_guardian.jpg) Guardian Building (the red one in the middle).
And you're right Dele, nothing beats real life. (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Guardian+Building&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi)

(Don't mind me, I've veered off topic already and am indulging in my architecture habit.)
