So my battalion has been conducting Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear environment training for a few days now and today my section had to wear MOPP suits and gas masks for a few hours. I had a little spare time so I fired up my laptop in my office and attempted to play around in truespace 7.5. I don't have any pictures of the results because it took way too long to make anything but here are some pictures of what I had to work with! On screen is the "Feed the Dino" object with a cloud background rendered and made on the model side.

Ah, some things never change and it brings back memories.
I see the standard green "log book", wax pencil "markup boards"; cinder block walls and etc.
When I first went in, the NBC (nuclear/biological/chemical) warfare suit consisted of a neo-preme rubberish suit. Boy was that thing a sweat bucket!
Hated those three day alerts where one had to live in MOPP gear. Being part of the "decon" team - we had to play the part more than others. :( |

The only thing that can realy kill you is when the gas comes from inside the suit !
In this case (very frequent ) you are your own enemy !

I remember working on modeling stuff like you are wearing here prior to working here at Caligari. I had to do fireman suits, helmets, gas masks, a few other items. Some of which are on show still:

There was quite a bit that didnt go on show in the gallery. All textures were made from photos of the genuine item (I can tell you that slicing those up to turn them into UV mapped objects was pretty tough!).
Thanks for sharing in this thread, hope you get out of that suit soon ;)

Sigh, I remember sitting in an engine-room control space for 24 hours in one of these noddy suits and an S6 Respirator, the heat was well.... dire and all the charcoal on the inside of the suit flaked off. We were in a citadel situation with positive pressure and I think I sweated more than I erm... <Censored> :D
Sigh.. Good days
Cheers

just a quick poll:
How many trueSpace users have been in the armed forces?
Seems like quite a few so far. |

What do you mean by "been in the armed forces"?
Some of us lives in country's that still have compulsory military service. Of course, nowadays perhaps only 30% have to do the military service but when I was young enough 90% had to do it so I spent about 8 months in the army...
I wouldn't count myself as "been in the armed forces" however, as that sounds more like being employed by the military. |

US Army; and still in the National Guard (1995-Present). Best time was with the 82nd Airborne, exiting aircraft while in flight! :)
