Well, let's look at the news. Nvidia purchase Mental Images (Mental Ray) with a view to upping their realtime GPU technology. Microsoft buy Caligari for their virtual earth project. Now Microsoft is giving away free software.

What does this mean? I haven't a clue but it will be interesting to see how this all pans out for future rendering and visualisation technology.

I am sure this time next year all the pieces will have fallen into place...:D

Interesting article! XNA 2.0 and Visual Studio C# Express are available free to all, of course. This lets the Pro version be available to students it seems (haven't read the article in detail yet) rather than just the Express version.

Anyway, for those who are not students, you can already do a lot with the free tools though, XNA and Visual Studio C# will let you develop games for your PC, with plenty of starter kits and tutorials to get you up and running. Creators Club membership will let you port those games over to your 360, which is an interesting experience, being able to run something you wrote on your console :)

HTH!
