Wow, what an issue. Not only a 12 page tutorial on how to model, render, rig etc. a dinosaur from a guy at Weta but a feature on the Caligari acquisition that actually knows no more than we do...:D

Best of all though a DVD featuring the 50 best Independent Animated shorts from the last 10 years, VUE tutorials, Poser assets, quality automobile 3D models, HDRI files, a full copy of imagesynth which automatically makes tiled textures in photoshop.

And over 7 hours of video to accompany the dinosaur tutorial. Oh, and you get a magazine to read....bargain!!

This almost beats issue 100 with the full copy of Carrara 5 Pro.

I really should get subscribed to that mag. I buy it and ImagineFX every month anyway. Sounds like a cracker of an issue though.

Cheers

I know that you can't post the article itself, but could you share what it talked about? If they talked about more than we currently know, I'd be interested in hearing what they said. ;) I don't think we would even be able to get the magazine for some time yet here in the States.

Thanks

That's the point Dele; it reads like some kind of newsflash but intersperses quotes from Roman which, upon further inspection, are all lines from the Captain's Blog and finishes with the line 'Roman Ormandy was not available for comment at the time of going to press'....so it is not just us. An industry leading mag knows nothing either...:D

Reads like a fresh take on it but it simply a reporters take on the event using 'quotes' from the blog. It attempts no conjecture at all...just the facts.

Don't let this put you off buying the mag though which is excellent. That DVD is worth far more than £6 and I intend to have a play with imagesynth.

I thought it read, .... Actually Knows More than we do.

:D

Guess my mind was doing some 'wishful thinking' there. haha!

Ah, thanks Paul. I must have read it wrong too. Perhaps having the word "know" and "no" right next to each other causes that effect. Your mind reads the same sounding word twice, so ignores one, even though they are technically different. Or maybe I'm just dyslexic or something. :p

Well I guess it is safe to say I wil not be getting a sub to that mag. 100 or more bucks is to much. I will try to get the issues though at a bookstore. I can use that stuff on the cd.

Have WIZARD do a "jig" for ya here on the forums. You can then be fulfilled with the designated "kiwi" animation.

lol. Two so far refuse to play. Interesting that ummm Bryce and Carrara and Daz studio got onto the quick reference card guides for the and I quote from the celophane wrapper, "worlds leading 3d applications". :) Is that a benefit of handing out free dollies on the cd each month. ;)

Sorry but at Least Bryce and Daz studio could have been left off that card and replaced with more to the fore apps.

Maybe I am just annoyed because I just ordered Lightwave and I didnt get a card. :) I have one for Truesapce and Carrara so i hope there is one in my Lightwave box when it arrives Monday.

Cheers

Hi mykyl1966,

This nifty little app will help you identify what codecs you're missing:
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Also the FFDShow codec pack will get you pretty much straight on all the formats anyway:
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
:D

also do a search for Klite codec. It installs most every one there is out there. I I use it and it is free. And the media player classic that it installs is what I used over the windows media player. Better yet here is the link..

Splinters you mean to tell me that this issues of 3dworld comes with the full imagesynth..this is a 100 dollar program! Is a trial version or a watered down version or the full thing? Seems like a pretty good deal...wonder if it works with PS 7

Before I went to CS3 Imagesynth worked perfectly well in my pc version photoshop 6. Never had an issue at all with it.

Regarding missing codecs. Its not that problem. Its another issue. they have all been re-encoded for the disk and each subdirectory has an flv file and an flvPlayer_Progressive.swf file among others as well as a scripts subdirectory.

I imagine anyone trying to watch Kiwi will find it does nothing. When you press the play button it just doesn't respond.

I can play it with the vlc player I have installed on my Mac. Its a problem on the page that displays it on the disk.

Cheers

Hey Mike,

I posted this over in the dribble thread that can help you. If you can't get the flv files to work, you can try this:

Here's an online tool that will convert and recompress:

http://www.media-convert.com/

Or if you don't mind a command line converter, you cold try ffmpeg. Here's a link to how to use it and ffmpeg itself. Really easy and nice results.

http://worldtv.com/blog/guides_tutor..._converter.php

and the documentation:

http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC5

It will convert just about anything.

You might want to try Borders, I think they air-freight them in. That's where I got my copy (in Brisbane).

Good on you transient - there are a couple of places around here which air-freight them but charge $7 more for it!! I'm too stingy for that - anyway I told my local newsagent to hold it for me...... if I'm patient it'll arrive eventually ..

Sorry but Wizards never jig. They can amble, stroll or walk sedately and under extreme provocation they can build up to a determined stride. "Jigging" is not an option!!:D

Splinters, thanks for keeping us up to date on 3dworld. Have you thought of starting a 3dworld thread and just posting comments on each issue?
