I'm glad to she Kates and Johny's work in there. Great job guys.
This month leaned towards Architecture/Engineering works. Some pretty nice examples submitted. The winner doesn't feel or look right to me this month. I'm certainly not saying it doesn't deserve a win but my gut senses something is not right. Maybe it is the lighting?...or maybe it looks so real it is?....weird...
Is Roman judging remotely this month? |

Ok, I should have looked at the animation entry before commenting on the 'stills' :o.
I'm with Steinie, W!zard, a really nice atmospheric animation. I loved the use of light...and of course, in the still section it was really good to see WWOTW's entry appear having seen it develope in the WIP forum.
BTW After Steinie's comment I took another look at the winner and it almost looks like the image has been taken with a camera using wide angle lens -perhaps that is what is giving the odd impression and why I think it just looks like a photo !? |

Let's take a close look..
If this is 3D it has more polygons than any of my models.. So i think is photo.
11404
This is too perfect blending between any picture with alpha and the background.. Obiously is not 3D (my oppinion) Point for Picture.
11405
Watch this video and you can see the texture from the windows are the same..
11406
But is not a photomontage due it doesn't has the same perspective angle..
Point for 3D
This is one of this render where you don't know where is 3d and where is picture..
:D
I wish on the future see the picture and the wireframe from truespace.. that eliminate all the "suspicious" thoughts..:p |

My guess for what its worth!
The wall and foreground and background are a photo.
The house and lampost are 3D...

I think I can agree. Nice texturing nevertheless!? |

Even if it is part photo/ part 3d (you can see texture stretching on the house, i'm with CdeB on that) it still says a lot about 3d, that someone can mix 3d and a photo so well. Don't forget truespace has a lot of applications, if it was just a modeller then this would be out but it isn't. An image that this shows how flexable a program it is. |

OMG Wizard! I just watched your animation. It is excellent. Would be cool if you did a making of video, especially about the sets and lighting. Outstanding! I am very excited to see this level of work out of 7.5. I think you may have found your calling here ;) Thanks for inspiring me! |

Just catching up on todays posts and WOW! if the winner has 3D in it, it's sure hard to tell what is 3D and what is photo! The roof and windows on the house seem fairly regular and without blemish, so I agree about the house and the lamp post. Really nice compositing and photo sourcing work on that one. It'd be cool to see the wires.
Awesome work Wizard! Really cool seeing your work come to life. How much of that was realtime rendered? |

I agree with Prodigy - a wire-frame would be interesting to see from an educational perspective. Although I do remember seeing an incredibly realistic scene from Parva which he sent to me - it was actually very basic in geometry terms but had great texturing.
Re the Animation - thanks for all the kind words folks.
For those wanting more ... well, no promises but there is an ongoing story line and I found the animation process to be fairly user friendly - especially with the help I got from the guys on the tech forum. I can't promise when as I'm currently trying to learn Lightwave 9 but I'll certainly be doing more animation at some stage.
@Dragneye - re "How did u fit all that animation with so few megs?". trial and error - with the emphasis on error! I took advantage of the recent free offer on Camtasia 3 which comes with a heap of different output options - the raw uncompressed AVI file - even with mono sound, is well over a gig in size - I just kept encoding it at different settings to get it as close to the 15MB file limit as I could by tweaking compression rates and output res until I got a useable balance without too much detail being lost. The full resolution version looks and sounds great - if I do say so myself!
@ Jack Edwards - Re "How much of that was realtime rendered? " The opening shot was rendered several years ago using the volumetrics in tS 5.5 - I've kept the folder of output images around waiting for a project like this to use it in - the collapsing wall scene comes with tS 5 IIRC - I just retextured and added volumetric lights.
After that opening scene everything else is realtime rendered.
@3DFrog - Re "Would be cool if you did a making of video, especially about the sets and lighting". LOL - a "Making of Wizitch Inc" vid? That's quite a good idea but in prectice would probably be 4x longer than the original video!
The sets were largely the result of teaching myself to use the LE and the Real-time renderer to make 3d spaces. It's interesting to walk around them in FPN mode. They are often quite big in terms of file size. I also have a hard drive full of objects and scenes made in earlier versions of tS. For example the Grandfather clock in the movie was one of the very first models I made using Anim8or about 5 years ago. Many of the buildings and sets have been recycled from much earlier projects.
Did anyone notice there were none of my trademark seagulls in the picture allthough you can hear them in the second to last clip?
Thanks again everyone - glad you enjoyed it. |

I didn't notice the missing seagulls but I did catch some clever touches. When the Wizard walks past the burnt out torch and glances up. Also when he passes an unlit hallway and with a passing hand illuminates the scene. The camera work starting behind and under the Wizard's arm as he walks forward (Orson Wells influence I bet).
I watched it a second time the next day and enjoyed it even more. |

Behzad,
Try this appliance:
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
it'll tell you what codec the file is and what you're missing to play it.
Also you could pick up the latest version of FFDShow which will allow you to play pretty much anything:

The animation was made using the latest Windows Media codecs.
Video - Windows Media Video 9
Audio - Windows Media Audio 9.2
Hope that helps |

I have posted this before but I shall again. I highly recommed that everybody go and download the K-lite codec. It installs a codec for about everything. It also has a very simple media player called media player calssic. I love media classic much better than Win Media. |

I think I may be a little late for comments here (hi everyone btw:D)
I haven't gotten a chance to look at the animations yet (I want to check out W!Z's; from what I hear it's amazing;))
The stills are all very nice too, but as some people have said, the winner is somewhat questionable... I noticed that the lighting is not constant; the right side of the house is lit, yet the left side of the stone wall in front of the house is lit, but the left side of the house is dark. I'm curious to see the wireframe as well. Maybe it will teach us all something :)
