Hi !

First of all may I post this link in case you want some more further reading !

http://www.carbodydesign.com/3d-tutorials.html

Second if you like to look at some of these pages...

http://lmd.ifrance.com/html/audittus.html

Third :http://www.etereaestudios.com/docs_html/nixus_htm/nixus_index.htm

Fourth :http://www.etereaestudios.com/training_img/sentinel_tutorial/sentinel_tutorial.htm

And there are lots of related pages in the moi3d forum here

http://moi3d.com/forum/

:)

Happy reading !;):D

If youve done some further reading you will find out that in truespace many of

these tutorials dont work because some of the important basic nurbs tools are

missing ! So the probably best bet is to start with a nurbs primitive and add

isocurves one by one and pulling it outward.

In most other nurbs applications you lay down the curves that make the

flow of the car first and then usemesh building tools like loft and

network afterwards. The trick ..... and you can read this in every forum

is to make as big as possible shapes in one go as possible because you

get smoother results.

Lofting over 5 curves at once is smoother then just 2 at a time.

Modelling a car is NOT easy !:(

Unless you're used to using NURBS, a better approach would be to learn how to do it using Sub-division surfaces (SDS).

The advantage of using SDS is that it has a poly mesh cage and you can use your basic polytools to edit and deform the polygon mesh. The best method that I've found is to model the panels as a single sided surface instead of a volume, then they hold their outlines better when the SDS layer is applied and it uses less geometry.

Workspace side is really good at this kind of modeling, but since there isn't any edge extrusion in 7.5 you need to use the polydraw tool to cut at loop next to where you want to extrude the edge from then drag out the outer edge instead.

Hope that helps!

Start off with this kind of shape I would say from a nurbs sphere..:D

You can find some plugins here that might make it easier to follow nurbs tutorials for other programs.

When you want to construct a new car from scratch....

a good idea is to do some simple boxmodeling first to get an idea of what

form you want to create . You start from a cube and divide that and move the points

to a car like shape and then apply subd. a few times!

That gives you a basic organic car shape and you can use that to cut it up

for making templates for the nurbs surfaces...like curve rulers.

This is good if you dont have any idea of what shape you would like to have.

Get the point.... you make slices !You draw your curves based upon these slices. see the second picture.

When car designers make thier cars they dont start with the computer but they start with prebuilt curveguides and use them on paper.

tzhats the most important step in car design.

Next step is the clay model .... to get the proportions rightand for easy

changes.

For cutting away the slices you just use simple cubes and boolean subtraction

This is from a professional modelmaking bible from the 90 t´s

Basics of car design....

its actualy basics of nurbs and cad construction too.

Those are the cut ups and the construction of the model.

In the third picture you see the guides (rulers) that car designers

use....

Jeez, no wonder we're all driving around in soap bubble shaped cars...all your rulers are bent to hell!
Bring back fins and chrome!

Hi!

I use Moi. it is the best and accurate modelling tools. Unfortunately TS's NURBS tools not accurate therefore I can not use.

here is my cars:

Well this is an example of a few nurbs curves making up a basic

shape....;)

You can then add lights with curve projections.

The glass is a trimmed surface and the inside with

the elipsoid lens bulbs is the trimmed surface extruded and the

top deleated then shelled.... then you roto the elipsoidlights and add

them to the extruded case-inside.

You recess them behind the glass and thats it !

All the details are added from the basic shape onward:)
