Hi David,
That sounds like something that's going to need vertex morphing. When 7.6 comes out you could use the new morphing tools. Until then your options are more limited:
1.) the morpher script I wrote which you can get here:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=2573
2.) Add some geometry to the page where you're going to need it to crease and bend then add bones to the page so you can use the character animation tools to bend the page.
The bones method is probably the quickest and easiest. |

I remember an animation of this sort, made using the Deform Object tool on a 80*80 plane.
With 3-4 keyframes you should achieve the wanted effect.
There could be some more elegant ways to achieve this though... Frank would probably suggest a good use of ClothMotion ;) |

I am using 6.6 and I don't think I am upgrading any time soon, so I am hoping I can get it with this version. I think the script won't work with 6.6, right?
Using the deform object tool, I need to try and grab a few points at a time right? |

Scripts are 7.x only.
6.6 does support vertex animation though. So you could key frame the vertices, move them, then key frame again. Move them and key frame again, etc.
Or you could try the deform tools like Emmanuel is recommending. It all depends on your modeling and animation style. |

I would go for the deform tools as my first port of call in setting out to achieve this in tS6.6. Let us know how you get on!
HTH!

Very difficult animation for me. Trying to get it to look realistic and getting the vertexes to act right is a challenge for me on this one... |

One way is to make transparent masks in post production on the finished video. You may have to save your video in frames if you don't have something like Adobe After Effects or some other effects.
The idea is to make an alpha mask in your favorite 2D program and then apply it to your video.
Then, using a page turn utility to position the paper as it is being torn.
An excellent tutorial using After Effects here:

Of course, this could be done in other programs that have the page curl ability. There are some 2D page curl photoshop plug-ins by AV bros and others that should compatible with GIMP and paint Shop Pro. Of course, this would involve frame by frame editing of single frames from your video. |

An easy way is to use a Nurb plane and animate it. This was a very quick 5 min test to show something similar to a page curl - you'll get the idea from it!

Good idea Bobbins.
We always neglect NURBS animation ! |
