Hi

I am trying to follow the architecture course from proTeam and have trouble with the roofing.

In the video, the author uses Simply Symmetry to mirror model the roof (having modeled half of it by removing a line from a cube and forming a triangle).

However, I only have SS for TS5. When I try to use that in TS6, it won't run.

TS6 have some kind of built in mirror modelling tool but I can't get this tool to generate a new primitive - it seam to continue to mirror my old object, so any changes I make get mirrored but I can't select the mirrored object.

I am sure this is a real newbie problem and I am a bit embarresed for asking. :o

It seams silly to have to install TS5 to use SS, I am sure that there is a way in TS6 - perhaps an update for TS or the built in mirror modeller?

There are options which you can set for the mirror tool; Open that panel by right clicking its icon. Normally you select the face where you wish the mirror to go from before actuating the tool.

The inbuilt mirror tool should do all that you need. Note that it has a range of options - it stays active in mirror mode, to allow mirror modeling to happen in realtime. However once done you can create a final object, with no active mirroring.

You should have a small mirror modeler toolbar open when using the tool. Clicking on "Create welded object" will give the final object, which will then let you adjust things on either side independetly (ie no more active mirror modeling).

HTH!

Thank you!

I didn't noticed the dialog that appeared. Now I have created a welded object and it works.

Thanks

Also if you need to go back to just half the model. You can select and delete half the model, then use the add face tool to put the center face back. Select it, and click on the mirror modeler icon again.

For workspace side it's similar: select and delete the faces on the half the model you don't want, then use the select loop tool to select the edge loop you want to mirror around, then click the mirror modeler icon.

If your the mirror half of the model is going off at a weird angle that likely means that your mirror face/loop isn't flat. All you need to do in that case is to scale it until it has zero thickness.
