Was annoyed that I didn't have any high res heads on hand to test my skin shader and I wanted to try out a new (for me) topology so...

Still need to do the ears and hair, but other than that pretty much done. Thinking to use this for my UV tutorial...
Crits are of course welcome. :D

Good work Jack. There's a couple of things my eye picked up on. 1). I think maybe the head is a little long with too much forehead & 2). the nose looks a little large. Other than that is all good.

Thanks Steve,
I was thinking that too about the forehead, but I've already shortened it from the photo reference so I'm waiting to see how it looks after I add the hair.
I'm thinking the cheeks need to be a bit wider too.
The nose in profile is spot on dimention wise for the reference, so probably two problems: I need run an extra loop so it doesn't taper back so quickly (tS is just determined to make it narrow at the bridge when I apply SDS, grrr) and I probably need to reign in the nostril detail a bit... Then again I could just ignore the reference and make it smaller to see how that looks.
I'm pretty excited to get some UV on this so I can paint textures. Guess I'd better get to work on the ears...

Finally got some time to get back to 3D modeling.
Practicing some ear modeling using edge modeling techniques. Here's the results:

Unfortunately it's a bit too high res to use with the head model. So gonna have to try again. Was my first time using edge modeling (with the edge extrude plugin), so I learned a lot in that it's a much different approach than my more usual box modeling style.

Cool ear, you really added a lot of detail to it! Should look really great with a good skin texture |

Thanks Corbly. Guess I'll have to save it for use with a different model. :)
Also to address some of Madmouse's crits and some of my own concerns I did some minor reworking of the topology. Some new screen grabs:

Think I'll take a break from doing the ears and make and texture the eyes next. That should be relatively simple and add a bit of life to the model.
After I get the ears done, I can UV map the head mesh and get down to texturing.
As always crits are definitely welcome.

Nice eyes! I meant the model. :)
Even has tiny blood vessels!
I have a head model somewhere, eyeless...no ears...and a mouth waiting for teeth...

Wow, really nice texturing on the eyes. Both the little blood vessels and the variation in the iris make it look pretty real. |

Thanks guys :-)
LOL Jamesmc, I *know* the feeling! :p Heck, I never did end up doing the teeth for the dog model in the other thread.
Let's see, teeth or ears... hmm.... wonder if I should just fake the teeth with an alpha plane. The model is ~700 polys, so still low enough res for a real-time env...
On the other hand if I knock out the ears I can get down to UV mapping... guess I'd better try again on the ears... sigh.
