I've been working on this guy for quite a while (you do NOT want to see my first one). The concept looks a little Samus Aran esque but I hope the actual model doesn't show that.

But, the real model, I did a test animation to see how well his joints work. And I got a screen shot from Media player so that picture sucks, I'll try and get a better one.

Hi Weevil,
This is pretty cool. I think it's really cool to see how concept sketches are turned into 3D.
My question about the model is: Is supposed to be a powersuit, a mech, or a robot? Because I know my shoulders and arms can't bend through tubes like that... Ditto for the crotch which definitely would be painful.... The reason I ask is that the faceplate seems to indicate an organic lifeform inside that needs a way to see out...
If he's supposed to be a robot, maybe there's something that could be done to make the head look less like a protective helmet? Hydrolics on the sides of the neck maybe? Etched design on the faceplate?

Pretty cool, I like the sketch as well. I guess we can expect some nice images from you, and still so much time to learn :D When I was at your age I just did linedrawings in MS Paint :) |

Heh!
I'm kinda only using modelled ball joints because I can't use IK to save my life. I think I better re-model the body (not the upper plate) and keep it NURBS-ed so's I can twist it a little more organic, and bring the legs closer in. It aint a robot it's a power suit, he's going to be handling twin sabres, sniper rifles.....
I'll see if I can get a printscreen of him because the amount of poly's are a nightmare, and the reduction tool kinda....screws it up, and crashes it |

I like it. The arms bending through the suit dont really bother me, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Maybe it's just me, but the arms seem a little short. Of couse if its a robot or cybourg or something like that it doesn't really matter :D |

They only seem short because of the "pose" he's in, actually his arms are too long! They're down to his knees! Currently tryuing to get my body to stay NURB's-ed |
