I've just posted this on the gamestudio forums and would like to involve the community here as well.

"As most(I wish all) my code is finalized I'm looking for some help with the following...

[1] sub quest ideas...
I'm going the route of WOW on this with simplicity and consice one shot quests in mind, with the possibility of 2 part quests.

[2] names.
all categories...
1) continents
2) Villages
3) Actor names(NPC's)

Things to keep in mind...

1] this is an RPG(no, not MMO)
2] Serious and humerous names are both ok.
3] no plagiarism !
4] single names, double(firs & last) names, Titles(lord etc..) are all fine.

you can e-mail me at support@scatteredpixel.com, or post here."

I have to confess I am WoW dyslexic as well.

But... I can't resist invitations to exercise creativity...... hope the following helps. Please be aware these are purely off the top of my head. I play WOW maybe once a week...games can't hold my interest..I need to be creating. I'm using a name generator ATM, but I think people are usually a better(more broad) source for what I want. I would like to submit more screens(any since the re-write), but I'm still building the world...
after quests are all written, I can finish world editing, add sound, and start testing...
...So I appreciate all help I get here, If I use a name(after I google It) credit will be given.
I'm also looking for last names for NPC's...e.g. Fatala Shortkilt(lol)

Your example raises questions - mainly, what kind of names are you looking for?

1. Serious or Humorous? Or a mix of each since some quests will be funny, some serious?

2. A particular style or genre? Should they be Olde Worlde like Shakespeare or old English? General medieval? Icelandic or Scandinavian? Greek or Roman? Is this a world of elves and dwarves, or orcs and goblins? Or just of human beings? Or is it even space or sci-fi? Is it a future earth after some terrible tragedy struck down technology leaving magic and sorcery?

Without some background info, your world will come across as disjointed in its naming, without an underlying feel to it, as folks send in ideas based on what they think your world is . The more info you provide, the better names folks will be able to send to you :)

HTH!

Tom

In case you hadn't heard people that use puns should be drawn and quoted.

Two vultures board an airplane, each carrying two dead raccoons. The Flight Attendant looks at them and says, "I'm sorry, gentlemen, only one carrion allowed per passenger." :D

Absolutely correct Tom, but there are a few reasons why I am not disscussing such info..

1] I don't want to set up paradigms(para dime's, can't spell sorry).

2] I have only basic story and motives(for NPC's) at this point.

...but I will update the initial thread for those who have not seen any of my game footage...sorry, but I will not talk about the story at this point = (

Ok, that's good too :) Can be nice to see what folks come up with without constraints. Figured it might help reduce naming that was way off base, but of course there is no right way or wrong way, anything works so long as it gets you where you want to go!

Looking forward to seeing how this develops!

Thanks,

Tom

Probably not what you wanted at all, certainly not the graphics. :D

But it was fun visualizing and making up silliness and double meaning in roles.

jamesmc, I love these ideas...keep em coming. I can't really comment on a lot of things(not an NDA, just keeping things surprises), but I really like the freeness of your ideas..they can be serious or humerous, and that is the route I'm really liking ATM(as in this month)..seeing as these are sub quests, there is no harm in humor and they are meant as filler and fun..thanks.

Okay, now for the spoiler, the game cheat, the thoughts behind the madness. :D

Not doing the last one as a travel mount is self-explanatory. :)

Continents:

Phlangeston - My take on a land based on hand anatomy. (phalanges = fingers)
Villages
Mindiget - The small finger of course.
Abruudpoint - The "middle finger" as in daring someone to challenge.
Go-inmaivay - A more elaborate setup based on a Lenny Kravitz song, "Going my way." As you may know, Kravitz is half black/half Jewish. So, I reformed the words of the song to give it a New Yorkish style pronunciation. :D The deeper meaning of the quest for this is to seek momentary fame and fortune, just like some 'rock stars." Also, in the graphic, you will notice a poorly drawn crevice. Again, playing in my mind with the last name Kravitz (crevice.)
Oh, and here's a link to the Kravitz song, "Going My Way." :)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=T_dnWWnKCTk

:banana:

Continents:

Schleussnichen - A reformed German word for with schleuss(en) meaning "conclusions'. I added the cute suffix of 'nichen' intending the negative. Literally, the made up word Schleussnichen means "little or no conclusions." :)
Villages
Lochrostein - Again, abusing the German language (sorry German friends) literally means in my own mind Hole-Rock and of course sounds like "lock" as in padlock. Indicating that the quest may involve rocks and locked places which involves holes. :D
Steinkee - Well, what else as Steinie pointed out, named after him. :)

The NPC names are straight forwarded, but there are some hidden meanings and implications in them as well. I'll leave that up to the imagination of the reader.

Warning: If you don't want to know the secrets of this inside look, then you shouldn't have read it. :D

Edit: Oh, the last quest = concerning Schleussnichen. If one looks closely, it has a printed circuit board back ground and what appears to be the inside of some weird robot computer. Indicating that NWB will use randomly generated clues that may lead one to "little or no conclusions" as often is with computer projects. :)

I will likely use some of this..could you put this in the following format(not strictly)

quest giver:

giver location:(farm, kingdom, wandering....etc)

quest summary: go here, do this etc..

required quest items(for completion):

reward:(something from your head not mine...I already have a rewards system.)

Quest Suggestions:

NPC Quests (cloak of limited visibility, energy pills, pickax)

quest giver: Erasien

giver location: Lochrostein - Takanoa Temple

quest summary: Using Erasien's advice of stealth and thievery, go to Lochrostein and find the Takanoa Temple. The Monks of the temple are martial arts experts and do not allow visitors. Be sure and remove your shoes and walk softly.

required quest items(for completion): In the inner temple on the alter, there will be a chalice. Bring the chalice back to Erasien and say "Erasien,Chalice."

reward: Erasien will reward you with the cloak of stealth which limits your visibility to enemies.
================================================== ======================
quest giver: Hemphratoke

giver location: Lochrostein, Faranott's house

quest summary: Talk to Hemphratoke about the farmer's platter inside of the farm house. After slipping by the farmer's dog, grab the platter and give it Hemphratoke.

required quest items(for completion): The Platter from Faranott's farm house. Say the words: "Hemphratoke, platter"

reward: A small satchel of energy pills which have limited healing powers. These pills may come in handy on future quests.
================================================== =======================
quest giver: Barehinter

giver location: Lochrostein, Bluewater Bridge

quest summary: Under the bridge is a pick ax used in digging. It is indestructible and can be used as a light mace weapon in case of attack. Be careful not to wake the troll that often can be found sleeping under the bridge.

required quest items(for completion): The Bluewater Bridge Troll's Pick Ax. Take the pickax back to Barehinter to make the tool bound to your character. Say to Barehinter: "Barehinter, pickax" If the tool is not bound to your character it will fail in its intended use and perhaps break.

reward: A very useful tool Pickax in an upcoming quest. (Mindiget Village Quest)
================================================== =======================
================================================== =======================
Other quests tied with the NPC's Quests (Map, Key, Scepter)

quest giver: None

giver location: not applicable

quest summary: Go to the island continent of Phlangeston and find the village of Mindiget. In order to access the island you will need a tool to burrow into the island to gain access to it. This tool can be gained by doing the Barehinter quest. Once you burrow from the subterrainean tunnel you have made, you will find yourself located inside the Mindiget Castle. The objective is to find a map you will need to locate another quest item. Be careful because as soon as you step into the castle walls it will burst into flames. You must obtain the map before it burns up in the fire. This quest is timed and you must negotiate the corridors of the castle quickly.

required quest items(for completion): The Mindiget map which is used to find the crevice where a key is hidden.

reward: A map for the location of the key that will open the Abrugaard Dragon Lair.

================================================== ===========================
quest giver: None

giver location: Not Applicable

quest summary: Using the map from Mindiget Castle, find the crevice near Go-inmaivay village where a key has been dropped. Obtain the key as it will open the Abruudgaard's Dragon Lair near Abruudpoint village. (note the map can just be read with instructions (i.e. directions)

required quest items: The key from the Go-inmaivay village crevice.

reward: The key found will provide access to the Dragon's lair near Abruudpoint.
================================================== ===============================

quest giver: None

giver location: Not applicable

quest summary: Use the key found in the Go-inmaivay Crevice to gain access to the Abruudpoint Dragon's Lair. The dragon inside guarding the lair has a taste for humans and is not amused by those violating the sanctity of his lair. The cloak from Erasien's quest will assist you in slipping by the dragon's front view, but as you get closer to the chest where the sceptre is stored, the dragon may hear you and awaken. Your only chance of survival because of the intense attack the dragon will inflict is to take the energy pills from the Hemphratoke's quest. These pills will keep you alive, healing you and providing energy from the vampiric dragon's breath so you may grab the scepter and run for your life.

required quest item: The scepter from the Dragon's Lair near Abruudpoint Village.

reward: The scepter can be used to gain access to the inner tower of the castle found on the continent of Schleuessnichen. The castle is located on that continent in the village of Steinkee(p).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REWARDS QUEST
quest giver: None

giver location: not applicable

Quest Summary: Use the scepterfrom the Abrugaard Dragon's Lair quest and drop it into the hole in the door of the castle found in Steinkee(p) village on Schleuessnichen. The door will open and a draw bridge will lower allowing you access to the tower of the castle. There are several stones in the very top portion of the tower. Each stone will reward the player with RANDOMLY different reward for ONE of the following:

reward:
LEVEL (level up 1 level),
RANDOM STATS (Increased stats in 4 areas,
GOLD (huge amount of gold),
SATISFACTION MESSAGE: A cruel but somewhat pleasing message that states "You are satisfied and a smile comes across your face.",

I didn't give a clue how the quest items were to be used and in reference to the next location to be found, but could be included in the description of the item if it is held or looked at.

Example:

Pickax: Mindiget Village Mining Axe

Scepter: Opens doors with towering possibilities

Pills: Helps alleviate those suffering from dragon's breath

Key: Made by Abruudpoint's finest locksmith

etc. :)

Not sure what kind/type of quests you were looking for, so put in an old style I had played before (back in the 80s)

Anyway, was fun doing it, hope it was at least amusing, even if none of it gets used. heh
