Hi I write this topic for Architectural Visualization Strategy. I have so many problem with this and in my opinion somebody could help me. I have found a lot bug and unexpected feature in TS fduring visualization work. Maybe we could collect together this "bugs" and send directly to Caligari and perhaps they can mend this problem.

Perhaps you could describe the problems you encounter and we will suggest workflow workarounds :)

TrueSpace is a very efficient architecture vizualisation tool IMO. Of course, you need to work in Modeler only, since Workspace environment does not provide with the accuracy we need in that task, and you also have to load and learn the use of 15-20 essential plugins.
But Lightworks for large render and animation, and VRay for stills, indeed do the job as well as any other 3D viz package. Plus truePlay that allows for real-time presentation !
This is quite a cool solution for a very reasonable price !

See my last render below, done in 2 days :

Do you have any news on the vecad plug-in, I thought it had potential?

No fresh informations to share yet. Libor seems to be a busy guy :)

On the other hand -just like Dribble developpement- the waiting is the price we pay for so affordable tools :p

Hmmm...My visualization habit is that I make the models in CAD then I export ito OBJ, or 3DS file. I have never modeling in 3d application (like TS) because that is not easy and this take away my time. That is why the importer is very important:

TS dont hand the groups of OBJ (I think) only 3DS which is an very old format. But it is not important.

So would I work in modeler? not Workspace? :( (modeler is slow, isnt it? what is your opinions?)

I often import complex objects via OBJ format using the LUUV plugin by Clinton Grant. OBJ format keeps scale, UV, materials, etc... That's the perfect choice for your needs.
Once the object is loaded in the scene, use the Decompose Into Objects tool. Next you can browse object's hierarchy with arrow keys, and exclude any object from hierarchy with the Unglue tool.
That's that easy.

Workspace can display smoothly an object with thousands of faces.
But you will completely kill the frame rate in a few clics if you create multiple copies of an object or simply load an object with deep hierarchy. To keep a smooth display in a Workspace scene, you must set up your lights, your textures, your UV maps the way you would to create a video game scene.

In other words, Workspace is all designed for display of optimized scenes !

Modeler does not have that intrinsic limit and is more suitable for non-optimised archi scene, often made from imported objects.

Also, for architecture viz, you will need a Scene Editor/Manager, a Layers manager, a lights setup library, a complete set of lights options, etc... and all these features are available in Modeler side only (to improve workflow I recomment the use of additional plugins though, like piScene tool, piAxis tool, RSLayers tool, LightMan tsx, etc... )

Of course, since Modeler's real-time render engine relies more on CPU than GPU, it will not take the advantages of your 8800GTX ; but hey, who cares ;): in archi viz edition, you work in wireframe dispaly, and you compute your final render with CPU, not GPU... :D

The LUUV plugin is included as part of the tS7.5 install. It is definitely the way to go to import OBJs. tS should handle any kind of OBJ you need using that plugin for import.

hmm..OK...Loov is work very well, (and worked in past) but decompose into object command is very slow or freeze or my object is complex.

As far as I know, decompose into objects never actually freezes - it can take a long time if the object is complex and so appear to be frozen, but as far as I know it always completes if left long enough.

That's the only potentially time consuming part, splitting up the hierarchy. Once done, the object becomes much easier to handle.

I found in models that I made where it takes a long time to decompose, it resulted from my own bad modeling technique.

That is, instead of extruding or sweeping out a part, then bending or twisting it into proper shape - I would make component parts and weld/group them together.

This works, but when you export them out, one ends up with what they thought was "one group" as a multi-grouped object that has all sorts of parts that don't make any sense if you don't remember how they went together. :D

In other words, a properly constructed, hierarchically- named model is worth the time to construct if you are going to reconstruct it later for animation, texturing and etc.

Thanks for the heads up. I already use light manager, but piScene and RSLayers are both excellent. Every time I find a functionality issue in 6.6 that annoys me, there seems to be a free plug-in out there that fixes it.

Thanks, Emmanuel, now I have very large problems with Microsoft, which is going to stop my orders of trueSpace5 at the end of April. I am very sorry, but I have been still distributing and supporting Czech version of trueSpace5. It works very well under Windows Vista and I am still developping new plugin for interior design. I have no time to translate trueSpace7 to Czech language and to convert my plugins to trueSpace7. My customers are very satisfied and I have new orders of trueSpace5, too. trueSpace5 with my plugins has been used in all kitchen studios of SYKORA company (one of the largest kitchen manufactures in Czech republic). I was informed from Microsoft, that they will offer English upgrade of trueSpace7 to Czech users of Czech version of trueSpace5. It is the same as to offer English version of MS Excel 2008 to Czech users of Czech version of MS Excel 2003. I have been solving this problems with Microsoft CZ already for three weeks, but I get only some emails from a lady on Microsoft Czech HelpDesk and had no direct contact to nobody on Microsoft Czech republic. You can find some information describing this problem on my web page, too.
