How soon? That is a flexible concept I'm sure! Something to look forward to though.

All seems very nice ! But i miss a mention of a lipsync possibility. How do facial morphs without sound ?

Have seen last a good example from the cryengine Sandbox http://www.crymod.com/thread.php?threadid=15086.

This is a good method too, it's a lightwave plug-in but the process and layout are very clever:

I'm sure the updated SDK will come also at release so maybe a good idea to ask developers of your famous feature to write a plugin for trueSpace.

Nice to see all these nice new Animation Tools unless you don't do Animation....

Boolean functions was the only thing mentioned in the Captains Blog that a still frame rendering person would care about. Where are the new "basic" tools?

Dont forget that the Captain's Blog does not show everything - just because something is not shown there, does not mean it does not exist. This is always the hazard of sharing information early, people start on that track of "Oh but I didn't see this, its not included, I am not happy with this upgrade..." before the full feature list is even out there!

Do please take the Blog for what it is :) It is simply a snippet, a slice through, what is being developed, and not a complete list of everything that will be in there. Normally its the most "dramatic" items that are showcased there. However, for basic modeling, I can say there are plenty of tools, features and options that you will love, above and beyond the mentioned booleans.

Not strictly true Steinie, I am still salivating at the thought of real cloth for my characters. That they can be animated is a bonus but they should improve my stills all the same...:D

I am hoping that v-ray is also being upgraded with version 7.6, with at least a fix for the transparency problems ?

Haha James :) Oh my!

On V-Ray and similar, again all I can say is that the Blog is not all-encompassing. Do not despair if your favorite item has not been mentioned there! It's not the complete picture, which will be revealed once release is upon us.

Meantime more information will continue to appear in the Captain's Blog as we go along.

I am very happy with the way things appear to be going. It looks like TrueSpace is moving toward becoming the program I have been waiting forever for. Realtime shaders were what brought me back into the fold, and the latest additions have me almost that excited again. Can it really be that good?!

I'm predicting that this will be the version everyone else takes note of.

I agree. I think this new version and the power of MS behind the program will really put tS on the map...:D

I too am very excited about 7.6 especially in light of the recent videos in the blog.

Even if you aren't sure about your no. 1 improvement being available in 7.6 there are new features. Progress and development is always preferred to stasis.

If extrusion, bending and lathe tools aren't in 7.6, I will be deeply disappointed. They should have been in 7.5 or before in my opinion. If I must go to Modeler to load an Obj file the emphasis is not on getting rid of the bridge. TS 8 might be 3 years away so not having these "Basic" functions already available is just dumb.

If the 7.6 release now is coming up soon, I guess that means that most things is rather settled in the code.

So why not release some relevant information:

*) New features

*) Bug fixes from 7.51

*) Render engines used - can we use Lighworks from workspace?

Will we be forced to buy new VRay licenses or can we update or use old?

*) Price of software

This is something I would really like to know.

They only give that info out when they have a release date set. When they announce the date they'll give us that kind of rundown

Yes, I am hoping for that one too. I know they were working in v1.50 then stopped in v1.51

Good point Leif, if there is a new version of v-ray being produced in line with truespace 7.6 perhaps some of the earlier problems will be resolved and it may also be compatible with truespace 7.51. I am sure we will find out soon enough ?? :)

I get the distinct impression that v-ray will be thrown under the bus in lieu of real time rendering.

There has been distinct silence on the issue.

I disagree. Here is proof that there will be improvements...

Don't count out the Simons and Jacks of the world giving us access to new Renders in workSpace too.

I'm somewhat in agreement though. At some point that will be the way of things. RT graphics and interactivity. It is the natural evolution.

Real-time has been on the verge of taking over from the cpu renderers "soon" for years. There is a production company using the new ATI chips to do real-time raytracing, but that's high-end proprietary warez - it will be a while before we see this particular tech off the shelf.

When pixar or chaosgroup announce their first real-time renderer, then I'll get more excited about this.

If Caligari could one-up these companies, I would be very impressed.

The safe road says yes, but I think it will be a small company(like so many times before) that takes the risk with some really good tech. Much like chaos group, they were around, but until Vray did the mainstream know about them? RT is a good(albeit safe, if not a "must") future investment. To get started with tS4 was a wise(but too early)choice...anyway, these are just my thoughts, I have been wrong before.

That's a fair point.

I thought the whole idea of real-time raytracing was a fantasy until a hollywood company recently declared the were already doing it, with the help of ATI and it's new videocard's tessellation feature.

Yes - that stuff is fascinating (http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/38145/135/)

Otoy are going to be a big company - real time voxel based raytracing at 480p on a single ATI video card the quality of video is astonishing!
