Anaglyph has been mentioned a couple of times recently - maybe its worthwhile to give it its own thread and see what happens.

As I mentioned previously an old program called Imagine had anaglyph as a standard render option in either greyscale or coloured images with the red cyan applied. Left and right images were rendered separately then assembled and processed automatically. In the old Amiga version I seem to remember that you could actually render out stereo pairs in a single side by side image or "splice" them into video fields for view with shutter based eye glasses.

Heres some samples. The 2 beetle pictures were rendered in Imagine(model from Taschens 500 3d objects book and cd)

The other image was done in tS using 2 side-by-side camera objects then processed and assembled in a paint program. BTW I used dribble to see how that nice depth of field would process.

The advantage of Imagine's render option is of course that its quite easy to create an animation. Processing frames manually obviously isn't the go - does anyone know a cheap or free anaglyph batch processor?

Hi Burnart, I have always been interested in this. I did find a freeware program awhile back that does quite a bit. Even batch multi processing. Newest version also works with multi processors. You probably know about this but maybe others might be interested. Extremely interesting subject .... specially when you view in 3d stereo!

Learning this is on my to do list ...

freeware StereoPhoto Maker

also, I found before http://anabuilder.free.fr/welcomeEN.html

P.S. One of the first 3D animation programs I used years ago ANIMATION MASTER had stereo render built in. Here is a tutorial ...

Thanks for the response jhowell. I have found some anaglyph assemblers that work great with single frames but nothing that batch processed so I am quite keen to check out the link. Once I've got the frames processed assembling them into an anim is not a problem as I already have some tools to do that.

If others have been messing around with anaglyph please post some images. What about you jhowell? - what have you got for us?

I dont have anything yet but will very soon. Your posting this brings up the fun I had years ago trying this with animation master ..

Never did like animation master otherwise. Those week long renders killed me. Truespace realtime is the future (in my opinion).

now I will learn all this with truespace and will post cool stuff soon (time is the enemy ... need lots more time)

I did a little animation - 100 frames at 15/sec. That's 100 left + 100 right taking bout 7 mins each in dribble using a displacement landscape map. Still experimenting with the dof effect in anaglyph. I like it in still images but not sure how well it works in an animated anaglyph. See attached - feedback appreciated.

I have an idea for a multi minute project that would use landscape maps in some form or another but that's a lot of rendering time at 7 mins per frame when you may need to do thousands of them.........

BTW jhowell the stereomaker program works a treat - thanks for the link.
