Well here we go again, I haven't done very much with Vray the last little while so I thought I would dust it off and create an Architectural visualization, still early in the development stage but this is to be a contemporary estate style home, I invision in inner coutyard or perhaps a pool, but time will tell.

I love the Bauhaus styling which you seem to be taking in a personal direction. Is this your dream home or a municipal housing scheme? I guess at this stage it could go either way. I'm going to keep my eye on this thread.
(Personally, I'd vote against the pool....too cliched). |

Thanks guys, I think the pool idea won't work here and it's been done to death, Well my initial thought was a home or mansion but this can change, I think this will need a sculpture in the center, maybe with a fountain or some kind of water feature to break up the hard edges. I had added some planters but didn't like the way they turned out much to big so I removed them, will try again later.

Just pretend the building was in Vancouver, Canada. With the rain they had this week you could park a canoe or two as well :)

This place reminds me of a school. A playground in the center instead of a water feature.
p.s. you could add guard towers in the corners to keep them from cutting class....:D |

Don't do that! If you break up the hard edges you'll lose the architectural style. A sculpture/fountain/pool are the obvious props for this kind of environment but I think you'll find a more original solution if you really want to. It's probably too early for this but if you add signs of human activity; ie abandoned child's tricycle or 'stylish garden furniture' or even a retro-style car, that'll neutralise the harshness. Some basic concrete/gravel textures at this stage would help out to. One aspect I really like is that it looks so hot and tranquil. A couple of well-behaved of trees would provide much needed shade and put some Yin back into your Yang. |

Good suggestions LazeeGazzz, I have a few things in mind already and just trying a few things out. I think I will finish off all the windows and perhaps a doorway for the main building while I ponder.
Thanks |

Nice start!
The windows remind me more of an office building than anything.

Thanks rj0, you may be correct and that's ok I can work with that. Steinie not sure about where you went to school but maybe if my school had guard towers I would have attended more classes.;)
Thanks Norm, I saw some of the news coverage from the storm that passed over them, pretty wicked.
Here is another update, slowed down a bit trying some things out that never worked the way I would have hoped but making progress.

They look wierd, but because of this are probably a good thing to contrast with the building. I like where your going with this wip. |

I like the cardboard model feel to all this, keep going.. looking good.
I would layout and get all the buildings blocked in first before adding the high geometry stuff though. I know it's tempting to add the pretty bits and keep making test renders, but they're not the core of the architectural image, they're decor.
Keep it going. |

Alrighty, just finished up the windows. now I need to start working on the details like door handles and exterior lights, places to sit down and so on I also need to come up with some sort of floor plan because of all the windows.
Here are 3 pics

On a different note [& not a criticism], am I the only 1 who thinks that the statue looks like... it's trying to make another statue...? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/smilies/naughty.gif |

Funny, never thought of that.;) it's trying to make another statue...?
Took a little detour from this scene today but it is still relevant, although it may not be evident just yet, so I will post this here as well, basically an exercise in texturing and lighting with Vray. Also when including a ruler in a scene it really focuses you on making sure everything is to scale.:D

The mug looks weird. The main body looks too small compared to the handle & rim. |

Looking good! Only problem I can see is the mug - looks far too thick (especially the handle) and a slightly odd shape, too flared out at the bottom and especially the top. As a tea addict I have a lot of mugs (the more you have, the less often you have to wash up!!) and this style of mug tends to be thinner than regular ones.
I can see where this is heading and it's a cool idea. Everything else looks good, especially the pencil and eraser. |

Thanks to the both of you, Looks like I may need to rework the cup a bit, must admit on it's own it looked alright, to my eyes anyways. :o But now when I look at it again it's way off.
Thanks |

Just a guess...
after your response to treb's comment about cardboard models I could just imagine a model builder (like trebs originally was) working on his cardboard model and of course having the indispensible cup of tea to hand...as well as the tools of the trade... |

Ok so time for another update thanks to Trebs for planting the seed for this concept, How odd you say a 3d model of a 3d model. Still some texture work to be done but you get the idea.
Comments are welcome as always. |

Chuckle! Very cool Dave - I love the way you've tied these two scenes together. I particularly like the little detail of the steam rising from the tea in your third mugshot.
The only other comment I'd make is to recommend heeding the Wicked Witches comments about the mug - we British take our tea VERY seriously (its what made Britain Great) so she knows what shes talking about. |
