I wanted a IK handled rig that would accept the bvh clips in the mikes moves and sports folder as well as most truebones.com bvh clips. So I could easily drop those bvh anim clips on to my character. These bones are all named properly to accept the bvh clips. So this is quite powerful considering how easy it is to manipulate rig and how easy it is to change the bvh motions (just by adding to your main skeleton additional "edit in new tracks" with "additive blend mode" on and "pass through" off while keyframing the rig.
Download the IK RIGGED SKELETON and TANK GIRL AND BINKY below where it says attached files.

You are welcome! Its the least I can do to show my appreciation for all the help I have received from this forum. This really is a great forum. Many of you are long timers with a tremendous amount of knowledge. |

I don't know if this is relevant or if it has been mentioned before but I found a tool called BVHacker and it allows you to view and change BVH files. pretty good. also lets you run their animation. I think it's free...can't remember.
Anyway, you can get it here: http://davedub.co.uk/bvhacker/
I have v1.1 and it's pretty good but there appears to be a new version. |

Thanks for the tip brotherx. I have used the bvh editors from http://www.fragmosoft.com and http://davedub.co.uk/bvhacker/index.html for awhile now. By using the ik rigged skeleton I offer for download below you can avoid dealing with bvh editing. Just drag and drop many anim clips on to the skeleton. The skeleton I offer below has all the bones named correctly so it will work with all those bvh files available from truebones and that also come with truespace. bvhacker and fragmotion are really good for renaming bone names quickly if you happen to want to use a particular bvh that you need to change bone names quickly. What I like about truespace is I can drag and drop a dozen or more different bvh anim clips in to my character in a couple minutes and then change any part or parts of the total animation by adding a bunch of "ADDITIVE BLEND MODE/EDIT IN NEW TRACKS" to my tracks. Doing that type of blending and tweaking in bvhacker or fragmotion would be a pain. Not in truespace. |

What I find so powerful is that when you add a bunch of bvh anim clips to the free ik rigged skeleton I have included below you can by using the additive blend modes/edit in new tracks/ throughout the animation tweak those bvh motions (make sure pass through is off of course). I just grabbed the free skeleton listed below and dropped it on tank girl in this above quick test clip . I dropped in a bvh anim clip. Using the IK handles I changed tank girls bvh motions and movements easily throughout the animation thanks to additive blend modes and editing in new additional tracks (above 800 real time frame render including adding new free ik rigged skeleton to tank girl and adding bvh anim clip plus tweaking bvh movements took less than 7 minutes total). Tweaking and blending many stock bvh motion is so easy ... especially with the new ik rig included below. |

WaaHoo! jhowel for president!
3 times I've sat down intending to do this - figure out how to add IK handles to a .bvh compatible skeleton and then got sidetracked by one of my other projects.
Huge mega uber-thanks to jhowel - knowing how cool it is using .bvh and Forward Kinetics the ability to also use Inverse Kinetics opens up a whole new world of possibility. You are the MAN!:) (Can you tell I'm pleased?).
With this .bvh compatible skeleton tS must now be THE easiest animating tool out there - imagining the posibilites of combining this type of effortless animation with the upcoming morph capability of tS7.6... well I'm dribbling on my keyboard in anticipation! |
