3DGS has worked well with tS and gS for some time, using the X format to send stuff across. That format should be all that's needed for getting your stuff into the engine :)

it doesn't work real well Tom, you should try it out so you can see what she's talking about.

No time to test here sadly, too many game engines for us to run everything through the paces for each one. If there are specific problems, would be interesting to hear them - do note that tS7.5 default X format is not as good as the one found in gS / gP, so that might make a difference too.
I'm unaware of 3DGS having a specific format though, other than X?

I do not have a license for 3DGS but I believe their model format is MDL7.

Ah they have a proprietary one? No plans for formats unique to particular game engines at the moment (though third party development is always welcome where there is a demand!).

Actually, the (DOT).x format coming out of tS is either horrible or all the 3D game engines importers are. I stay clear of the .x importer....er um exporter, and yes 3DGS uses MDL7(soon with 2 UV sets). |

Well, 3D Gamestudio can also read FBX. Better than X. And FBX would fit to most other game engines then.
The problem with X is its different versions. So many. There are as much around as there are X exporters. Even the trueSpace X format differs from version to version. And here you have your answer why X is a bad idea for game content ;) |

And I assume Caligari is working on it. FBX got my vote when Roman asked us about formats recently(maybe a year ago now...lol).
1)FBX

Looks to me, for what I'm into anyway, that Collada is now most important. And not just one way, either. |

3D Gamestudio cannot read Collada. Gamecore neither. Not sure about Dark Basic pro. But they all can read FBX ... |

Yes, Collada does need help. Here is one of my posts in the past trying to get Collada import to work. Never did succeed. Could not get Collada to import properly from XSI or MAX. So I gave up. :(

Wow! thank you all for your input on this .. and yes.. FBX appears to be the format of choice.. 3DGS (Conitec) handles it well.. .x does have issues.. this is not my area of expertise, but if I got it right.. FBX will bring in much more information into the game engine from tS and with minimal to no 'issues'
;)
(if I sometimes seem like I'm talking through my hat.. I probably am.. it's tricky being a creative director .. I know a little bit about a lot of things and I'm betting at finding people who know stuff than knowing it myself... so when talking about game engine and import/export formats ... I have this intense urge to go winkle out my very bright, young Dutch programmer dude, and say .. here.. talk to them for me will ya?? :D He does explain things to me, but sometimes it goes in the good ear, and falls out of the deaf one, heheheh :D ) |
