That looks like an awesome Myst Contraption creator. Pretty cool examples on their site. Thanks for the link JamesMc.

I've seen some very cool stuff done with this so I would have to put is somewhere between the two - a cool 3d tool that can also be useful! (Ouch, this fence post is sure uncomfortable but I get a great view from up here!)

I have used many 3d programs over the years. Groboto gave me that first feeling I got when I first tried Truespace 20 years ago. I have been using the groboto demo and am blown away. The amazing complex worlds that can be created in minutes is awesome. This is not a toy. This is a creative persons dream come true. Complex cameras, lighting, animation and much more. Check out this youtube demo .. only scratches the surface...

and of course can all be brought in to truespace via object files or animations brought in via chroma keying (green screen).

Okay, I took the plunge and bought it for $45.00 (U.S.) It was on sale from Smith Micro.

I just have the image to offer, nothing fancy as I just started.

I would have tested the OBJ file, but it was 422mb in size and tS choked on it. :D

So, I'll lower the subdivision levels on the next one and see what happens. Think I had six subdivision levels, which is like - a lot. :D

Okay, a second image, rendered from trueSpace. One IBL and Vray used.

Of course, the standard glass and mirrored sphere cliche'd usage and the back ground is the first image. The green fern looking thing is an actual OBJ file, about 17mb. Came in nicely with no problems.

Wow, that is beautiful. I also love what people are doing with the animation/morphing. The morphing animation Iam going to master as that blows me away.

Reminds me of the work developed by William Latham and his programmer (sorry name eludes me) at IBM in the 80's.

I guess a clever script writer/programmer could construct a replicator-assembler in the LE that could do some similar things. (Not me obviously - I said "clever"!)

BTW I'm happy to come down on the "toy" side - but even toys have there uses eg photoshop plugins. Speaking of which didn't flaming pear produce a similar replicator type program for the mac?

Okay, my first animation. Lost some clarity, cause I fiddle with it, but still pretty sharp. It has very nice shadow and lighting effects. WMV format, 320x240 original render from Camtasia studio.

composited the videos together and make the video 3D. :D

Well, it's cheesy and didn't make the backgrounds transparent of the separate videos, but it was fun to play around. :)
