Well many of you will know Sketchup and most will know that nativly

it does not support export in the free version but only few people know that

there is a plugin that someone wrote and is now in a new version !

So you can export to Truespace.

Sketchups component system is awsome and those of you who have used it

know how easy windows can be placed and moved around and arrayed

mulitple copied on the walls.

There are many free windows and doors in the warehouse and you can build

your own components and store them. You can import via 3ds from Truespace and use everything as component with snapping and you can

import with the object plugin !

ALL FOR FREE !

You can export in groups or use the plugin bomb to explode these groups.

There is a plugin for Kerkythea that works well with the free version

as almost all plugins do !

Vue imports SKP files too !

Its easy to use and learn and you build up houses in minutes rather then

hours !

Here is a screenshot of the model of a house that was built in 5 minutes

and imported with the normal obj importer !

Yeah thats realy cool !

But for all who render in Kerkythea and do modeling in Truespace here

is a link to do it the other way round !

You import into Sketchup ( from Truespace as a component ) via 3ds and export through the SUtKt plugin

read this for further reading.....

http://www.alexschreyer.net/cad/rendering-sketchup-models-with-kerkythea/

ALL WITH THE FREE VERSION OF SKETCHUP !

dont foreget that its the best way to keep polygons down

when you build up big sities with many real geometry windows etc.

Its very economic !

Here you see hundreds of real window without instancing all in workspace !

All with textures !

PLUS DONT FORGET YOU CAN ALWAYS USE THE TIME LIMITED TRIAL OF THE PRO VERSION

TO EXPORT WHAT YOUVE BUILT IN THE FREE VERSION..

If you have photoshop CS3 Extended, you can also import kmz (Sketchup 4) and make some nice textures or your buildings. :)

Regarding Bl*nder if you re-install Python 2.5 the importer does actually work probably a bug.

Unfortunately I also found the TS dae importer did not work.
