Don't know much about it or if it cost anything or if it would be helpful to game making 3D Modelers.
But here it is.
AwingSoft Awakening is powerful rapid application authoring tool for efficiently creating interactive 3D content. With it, you can easily creating eye-catching interactive 3D presentations, animated 3D web, brief film, game...
http://www.awingsoft.com/
Awakening 3D solution include three modules: Scene Editor ( Awakening.exe ), Scene Player ( WindsPlayer.exe ) and Web3D Player ( supports IE & Firefox family ).
Awakening presentations are typically used for making short movies, product and architectural visualizations, e.g. for sales, support and e-learning purposes, or, for product branding or prototyping.
Thought the resident gamers might be interested. |

It's a nice web3d engine, but it unfortunately suffers from the plug-in curse that has inhibited the popularity of the web3d scene for ages.
With browsers currently delivering dire warnings of armageddon every time something potentially messes with their security, it's hard to get these projects a wide audience.
It does output to an .exe though, something I would like to see in truespace. |

It seems a bit limited as to what kind of game can be made,it made me smile when I read it can run on win98 and Me.The price has been reduce by 47% ,I think I'll wait for Unity for windows. It looks like we have a TrueSpace user in there http://www.awingsoft.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=539 |

I'm very surprised unity are doing this (I'll happily take your word for it). Mac users often tend to be on the psycho side of hard-core when it comes to their chosen hardware niche. Not all users are like this, but the zealot minority are legend.
(Before I get killed I actually quite like macs, my first pc experience was on one, but not for the price - I diy my cheap-ass windows mules and they work fine.)
So I would have thought that a major carrot for many unity users would have been it's mac-only status. It's a very nice app from all reports, so I'll happily take a windows version.....once the dust has settled. |

Wow, a Windows version of Unity would be awesome, and I too am surprised - I thought they said they relied too much on OSX APIs?
The reason I like Unity when just about every other similar web plugin has failed is that it actually works well on both OSX and Windows *and* allows you to create standalone apps. Other platforms tend to focus on one or the other or lock you into using their distribution network (e.g. I believe WildTangent fits this description) |

I've been following Awakening for a while now. I think it's hampered by trying to run on older slower machines, the shaders are nice, but the fur especially needs to be better. The thing that put me off was a lack of info about character animation. It does bones, but without weighting, so how good could the results be? I still watch it as it seems to be progressing nice and may someday have something to offer.
Unity for Win would be great. It already supports Win, just doesn't run on it. I was not aware of that changing soon.
Currently, aside from waiting for 7.6, looking at Leadwerks engine and Profenix S2. S2 should import skinned Collada, but doesn't seem quite ready yet. Leadwerks seems more advanced but would also require more coding than S2. |

Leadwerks is very nice. I think it can be used with BlitzMax if you don't like c++.
I've never heard of Profenix, I'll check it out. |

No timescale given unfortunately but it does sound like there will be a port at sometime or other.

You know, maybe it's just me, but I never understood why a 3D developer hasn't taken the game engine thing by the horns and ran with it.
I"m not a gamer, so don't really know.
But heck, some of the figures that come out of games, like that X-Box game that did like $100,000,000 in sales over a three day weekend. I mean jeez, if that isn't incentive I don't know what is.
Perhaps I'm just a noob in a complex gamer world. However, if I had the knowledge and the skills, you could call me Bill Gates, Jr. :) |

I don't see much hope for mac-windows harmony in unity, if those posts are anything to go by. |
