The califorum has been extremely quiet lately. What's up? Did everyone just pack their bags leave without telling the rest of us who are left?

It's too hot today.
Those who don't have an urgent work to complete -like I do- must be at the pool at the moment :)

Lucky people...

Many of the active forum members got sucked up by the beta program. ;)

Also I think the increase in energy costs has forced many to seek additional employment or new jobs and they don't have as much time to participate. :(

The last thing I remember I was bowling with dwarfs and they handed me a "Magic Drink"...
Feels like I need a shave...

Being honest with you, having one way communication here is a downer. Go ahead and ask a question about 7.6 and see the response, I dare ya....
Ask about all the things that have disappeared from the Caligari Web Site.
It has been months and no updates about the direction of the Company.
After awhile talking to the Wall gets old.

How about joining the Monthly Contest? The Speed Modeling Contest? A WIP?
TS to me is ART not Music. So if you want my feedback about those projects, sorry I'm just not interested.
The Magic Drink was Truth Serum.
This is just my opinion and no ones else's.

We are down to 149 "Active Members" that is a drop of 30 within the last couple months. Over a two year period we usualy average 179. Sad.

Ya, forum participation is a downer.

Seriously, I think Caligari needs to rethink their process of doing multiple changes that take an extremely long time.

Upgrades that are periodic is always better imo.

I mean, even if it was just the SDK that was finished, maybe more developers would come back.

As it stands now, I haven't seen a developer for plug-ins (except dribble) for trueSpace products in three years.

If Caligari wants a pulse check, they should look at that.

I am seeing a drop in posts on other forums as well, guess just because the nice weather is here and people are doing things. I bet it will pick up around here when 7.6 is released, whenever that may be.

I'm afraid I have to agree about the music...all posts are valid but I visit other forums to actively engage in music discussions where there are a wider variety of specialists and musicians. I come here to share my tS work and (hopefully) help others where I can.

It just is really quiet around here lately...no motives I suspect, just a different focus.

I guess so Froo...but I expect it will be a nice summer afternoon storm..the kind you need after a long hot dry spell...;)

P.S It is nothing personal about the music, just my feelings and maybe an explanation if you didn't get as much feedback as you might have hoped for.

frootee "It's just the calm before the storm ... And before you say anything Steinie..."

There is a Storm coming? Good Storm or Bad?:D

Note Number 2: I have nothing against Music but when there is little participation going on about the actual software (ts) and we start other threads about music, farming, what I had for Dinner at Aunt Zooloo's last year, etc. I wonder what the heck are we are doing here...

There are lots of people checking in but when it comes time to show their stuff, "I'm too busy", "I have hemorrhoids", "my computer just died" "I would but I have a cake in my easy bake oven..."

I look at what JamesMc is doing with trueClue Magazine and hope he gets the same enthusiasm from volunteers a month from now or two months from now...

Seriously. I'd say Good. Like Splinters said, a good summer rain after a long drought. One you can play in. :)

Yes Go James Go! It would be nice to have a folk or two contribute an article or tutorial each month rather than have this fizzle out.

Well I try to look in here most days and leave a comment or two. For myself I've been dabbling only with tS and exploring other apps n- importing more of my tS models into Vue mostly.

I'm at a point where I'd like to do more on my ongoing animation project but knowing how time consuming anim work is - and knowing that tS 7.6 should have morphs.... well I'm reluctant to do too much work in 7.5 on that particular subject.

Did I mention I have a wicked tooth ache as well? ;)

Re the music - there is a related thread in the collaboration forum where you might get more response.

It's my experience that forum traffic is a bit tidal - sometimes it's full tide and you can't keep up, sometimes the tides out and there's nothing happening.

My 5 cents

The irony for me is that I have waited and waited, .... and then waited some more for 7.6. Now it feels like its JUST over the hill and surprise, I got made redundant last week. (insert swear words here). Joys of the UK recession hitting the construction industry I guess.

In light of this, apart from doing all the usual job hunting things, I have spent hours and hours downloading vid tuts on 3d, as a pre emptive strike in case I have to prioritise expenses and the internet connection needs to get shelved for a bit. Hence my low profile on the forums.

The exasperation of all this waiting and now knowing that 7.6 is so tantilisingly close, yet I won't be able to afford it now is just well.. (insert even more swear words here LOL).

Still looking on the bright side if the joblessness lasts for a while I am going to have loads of time to learn a heap more about 3D, hence the shovelling as fast as I can download of vid tuts, so it's not all doom and gloom.

On the subject of vid tut downloads, I have recently found the C4D.cafe to be an absolute goldmine of free/low cost tutorials. Worth a visit for sure.

Regards

IK

I think this is a problem of caligari team.

No much news on the page, no much advertising about truespace on other 3d pages (cgtalk etc).

I use ts 7.51 and have to many bugs in for work with it.

No news about VRay´s future. Is the render developed or supported in the future ?

In the Forum ! i see much spam, no renderings.

No amaizing renderings or wip´s. Mostly the users showing work that was possible in TS 1. No highlights. Less work of details. I don´t need to visit a forum with renderings of spheres or cubes, i can´t learn from this.

Maybe my last points was a problem of the cali team. Please give us a stabile running 3d software that we can do good stuff. Bring the polymodeling featurs from workspace to the modeler and i would leave silo. Give VRay 4 TS more material supporting and lights. No way to render Bumps in VRay ?

So long and excuse my poor english.

I would take offence Vizu if I actually took personally other peoples opinion of my work. It is functional and as designed (for kids and parents) but certainly not something you could achieve in tS1...:(

I am thinking that is not what you meant but your post does not discriminate either way so it reads negatively about the whole of the site...:(

Sorry splinters.

I don´t want to attack anyone here directly.

My meaning was more general. I compare our Forum and results and posts with other 3D sites. Some guys here do realy good stuff. I am a big fan of MadMose work. My exasperation was going more in direction to the caligari team. It is poor that we have the engine of VRay and Caligari let it waste. When i hear that we get VRay i was very happy and many users of other 3D App will grudging us for this strong renderer. But i can´t see that caligari will finish this tool. The polymodeling tools that in workspace site comes late. Too late and i wish we could use it on modeler site. I know caligari have the target to the workspace site but some guys won´t it like me. I need my modeler and wish that all the nice features comes in from the workspace.

I bought Lightwave 9 as a crossgrade from Truespace. At least I saved some money from my TS purchase, I have bought TS7, 7.5, Vray 1 and 1.5

It looks like TS 7 was a great idea that never got finished properly. Its been ages, I just want to work with a reliable industry based product, not somebody's personal project. I was offput by the new focus on Interactive, although it was pretty clear from the beginning of 7, that this was what was being developed rather than a great replacement modeling package for TS 6.

I think that v7 killed TS.

I do hope 7.6 addresses many things, but I seem to be making much more headway in LW than I ever did in TS with much less effort, so for me TS will have to improve quite a bit to come back to it.

I don't think v7 killed TS! :( It's not dead. It's just in a bad spot and caligari better get it's butt moving; it's fans are impatient and many are are starting to leave. On the other hand, v7 was originally released in 2006, a little more than 2 years ago. That's almost as much time as MS takes to build a version of Windows!

My loyalty for caligari is unwavering, but I'm not blind to what's going on, and I suggest that a course of action be taken, and taken soon.

Is TS 7.51 an acceptable competitive product for LW's "companion upgrade"? It is not listed in the qualifying products.

I was wondering the same thing on LightWave, then I started watching the LightWave videos and was not too impressed with method of breaking things up into stages. For example one looks to be limited in the modeling area with a few objects only and appears no real shading or limited shading is done there, while tS everything is right there, any object in scene can be edited with full suite of tools at hand (tools in tS that is :) ). Now I havn't really done any Lightwave time so I just maybe way off plus many may prefer this. So in short the more I watched the less I was encourage to buy the software at full price. Plus one video I watched talked about making a mushroom cloud, bragging that it only took 2 weeks in the studio (with a professional team) for the effect and telling story about how the XSI guys where amazed. Well little old me with my custom special effects shader after two days was getting close and I am no professional. So in short tS can be so amazing at times, unblievable efficient and at the same time can be very frustrating, almost like being married ;).

I got it from here, and yes it is ( in Australia anyway.. ) I just had to supply my serial number to the Newtek Distributer.

http://on2dvd.com.au/shop/product_details.php?category_id=0&search_string=lightwave&item_id=486

upgrade from: LW V8,VT, Cinema 4D, Truespace, Strata Studio Pro, Animation Master, Electric Image, Maya, Softimage XSI, 3ds max, Autocad, Pro/Engineer and SolidWorks.

Its definitely about what you prefer - I got lost in the TS icons. A lot of things were inconsistant, the interface and the features. I am much happier with the simpler menu system in Lightwave. The modeller models and the Layout tool animates, I thought the same as you, then I realised it made the interface a lot cleaner.

Well little old me with my custom special effects shader after two days was getting close and I am no professional. So in short tS can be so amazing at times, unblievable efficient and at the same time can be very frustrating, almost like being married ;).

hehe - I hear you there! I think the hardest thing with the mushroom cloud would be integrating it into the live action.. it looked pretty good when I watched that episode of 24 - It was a little 'fake' but not bad - mind you, the nuclear explosions in Crysis are a LOT better :-)

My gut feel is that integration with live action is going to be very difficult in a DX style realtime renderer - its not designed for that, its a closed environment, and that put me off investing too much time in TS after my many initial frustrations with the interface and the undo weirdness and crashing in 7

I would like to comment on this subject.

I come here every day so I can say I have seen a difference.

When was the last time you got an e-mail from Caligari?

Prior to Microsoft buying Caligari I would often receive offers and news on

what was happening. No more.

Microsoft is using Caligari, staff and products for their own interests. Those interests are not those of the loyal fans of TrueSpace.

This attitude is slowly taking over on this forum and you can see it in fewer

posts and members online at any given time.

The only thing that will save Caligari is Microsoft's huge power base.

Hopefully they will not dump Caligari after they have sucked out what they need, as they have with many other purchased companies.

I hope my point of view is totally wrong on this .
