Took the family to check out WALL-E today. The movie was astonishing.
The core of the film is a love story. The theme/message about our increasing state of excess and laziness, and lack of care for earth was inherent throughout but it still wasn't presented in a heavy-handed manner. (ie. It is certainly not another Happy Feet)
They did an excellent job in that most any viewer - regardless of political stance - will not (or should not) really find the movie objectionable.
It is technically impressive and that's what you notice at first, but you quickly get to a point where you are engrossed in the characters and story. The character of WALL-E is very likeable, as are the supporting characters ("Mo", comes to mind here.).
I'll go out on a limb and say this is Pixar's finest effort so far. |

I rate Pixar as the finest animation studio there is and I love their work, which is understandable if you look at my own output...;)
I have 4 free tickets to see this on Sunday and simply can't wait...it looks outstanding and is earning rave reviews.
I keep expecting Pixar to 'drop the ball' sometime but it never happens...they just keep getting better... |

Hmmmm....
I still prefer A Bug's Life and Finding Nemo myself, as the story did drag a bit.
I guess I saw too much 'Silent Running' in Wall-E (movie with Bruce Dern from the 70's).
But when it comes to Pixar flicks you have to be pretty critical to find anything 'wrong' with it...which I am ! :D
You know...like how does a plant manage to germinate inside a locked refrigerator with no light. :D
And why does Eve...sent to find life...try to blow up anything that moves. Strange looking for life on a lifeless planet, and when you detect something is moving...alive...you try to blow it up ? Poor excuse to have a big gun and big explosions.
I gave it a B+ on Yahoo |

I took my son to see this the other day and whilst he enjoyed it, I'm afraid to say I found it quite boring. In addition to Humdinger's points about the planet-wide gaffs in the storyline, I found the only thing remotely humorous was a joke about a spork, which kinda says it all. I didn't even think that the film was a leap technologically either, not in the same way Monster Inc and Finding Nemo were. Don't get me wrong, I'm a great fan of Pixar and Toy Story (1 & 2) and The Incredibles are amongst my favourite films. But IMO, Over The Hedge and Monster House were far more engrossing both on a technical and story line level. |
