Its a bombshell we know - we kept it quiet, it was real hard to do, we've been itching to tell the news and its great to let the cat out of the bag! It is a huge change, we agree, but its a great change. A world of possibilities are opening up now.

Imagine the audience size for plugins for tS, for instance. Its a fully featured 3D app, for free, so now it makes economic sense to develop plugins as there is a large target market.

Imagine the potential for scripts, tutorials, objects, materials, widgets, too. We should be seeing a wealth of community developed content I would say, which will expand trueSpace in new and exciting ways.

As I noted in a previous post, tS has been used in some interesting projects lately, can't give details just yet, but again it reflects a new time of opportunity for trueSpace users.

But I can say "be of good cheer", great things are ahead.

Thanks!

Tom

This is absolutely incredible, thank you so much Caligari and Microsoft. If you wanted to make trueSpace better known, I think you did it by making such an incredible program free! Umm... does this mean i just wasted £300 of hard earned paper round money? Any idea how long that took? Have a heart Caligari/Microsoft :( *cough*refund*cough* .

The user Base is about to explode.

Any word about an update for VRay?

Wasn't there an SDK coming out too?

Jack get busy with your two projects. There are mobs of us now!

You too Simon.

P.S. TS7.6 is working fine so far...:)

Yup! I'd better hurry so someone doesn't beat me to the punch. ;)

I can now announce that the plugin that I'm working on is an FBX/3DS/OBJ/Collada/DXF import and export plugin for 7.6. Version 1.0 will have only polygon geometry support, but 2.0 will add animation suport as well.

After I get that out to you guys I'm going to dive into getting the Kerkythea plugin working and integrated into 7.6's new Material Editor. :D
Here's the news flash for you guys: the new Material Editor has built in support for integrating 3rd party render engines!!!! :jumpy:

Regarding Vray, if you revisit the repeat download area (http://cart1.caligari.com/ebuy2/enterdownloads.asp), you will see the update there for download (assuming you purchased Vray in past).
I believe Vray is also available for purchase for those who wish :)

WOW Jack another great announcement! Sign me up now. Seriously.

Question why does the bottom default window only have 1D and 4D now. Did it use to have 2D (LE) and 3D? I see where you can open a LE window but wasn't it easier the old way?

Edit: Wow thanks Norm I must have downloaded too early and before you guys had posted it.

Oh I never share much art in the forums these days, but I do still do tS work, just thought I'd mention the Starbucks scene over on Chris's VE blog was something I put together some months ago.

A lot of stuff I do now I can't show right away, but I am still involved in actually making stuff with tS hehe!

Cool announcement from Jack, already we can see the plugins and new developments begin. Whew I am so hyper with all of this, been a long build up, and now its out at last. Excellent!

Haha, and that is why talking about all this other stuff lately on the forums, it managed to keep me talking about SOMETHING even though I couldnt get on quite yet to the news that we all wanted to share.

Tell your friends too, spread the word, that your favorite 3D application is now available to all 3D artists everywhere, whether they want traditional illustration and animation, or all new virtual worlds and real-time spaces.

Thanks!

Tom

@ Steinie, you must've clicked the orange arrow while it was in 4D mode. You can get it back by restoring your layout using one of the layout tabs at the top.

Puts on Chuck Berry DVD and listens while the downloads occur at a blistering 1.1mb/sec (yehaah!)

Now I have mega fodder for the trueClue magazine and hopefully, it will add more as tS7.6 is the 3D application for the masses!

Papa Roman has outdid himself on this one and promises even more astonishing break through in third party development.

I'm having a real time fantasy attack right now and it's real!

Can't talk now, downloads completed!

Absolutely gobsmacked at this news especially as all my students can now use the latest version of tS for free and we can explore further the collaborative capabilities. Hell, I can even get some of my clients to get it so they can view their projects live.

And don't get me started on the 'Live' Buddy World potential!!

I guess this is the end of truePlay then as well...:D

Thanks Roman and Co. This has opened up more possibilities than you might have imagine in the field of education.

Oh yeah! It just sank in, there are no prices for training in the courses tab on the Caligari Website! Free training!

Yes, all courses are free. We kept the tS7 and up ones in the Fundamental and Masters, and moved the older ones for tS6 and before to the Older Courses section.

All are free. Enjoy those too :)

Thanks!

A polite request though...maybe take the 7.5 upgrade prices down as they are still active...I had a few students looking to upgrade and they would be gutted if they bought 7.5 just to find 7.6 was free...:o

Any old links you find, email me at b-thgrim@caligari.com so I can take them down. We're working on removing all out of date items, but didnt want to hold up the release to complete that. Do send all people to the home page as the source of all info :)

Thanks!

TomG, REALLY kick some 3D Program Butt and update the comparison chart. Put FREE next to TS7.6 all others $895 up to $7000

Fantastic news. Already started posting the info about myself. Only thing is the website has not changed for me and all the training still shows the full price and no change on the front page.

ANy ideas why?

I have cleared my cache and refreshed the site but no change.

Cheers

It is a dns thing. It takes time for new dns for caligari.com website to migrate across the big-pond. Hopefully it will not take too long for this to happen.

Looks like the emails are getting out. 107 users currently on the forums. I'm sure that will grow even larger within the next day or two. :)

As Norm says, some DNS changes are still trickling through. Hopefully it won't be long before everyone is on the same page, as it were :)

Will get the comparison chart updated, thanks!

I guess this is the end of truePlay then as well...Not sure about that. There will probably be people that will want to visit shared spaces that don't want the big tS download and extra UI stuff in their way. I don't know what Caligari has in mind for trueServe (wish they would say), but it used to have the ability to restrict shared space users to truePlay only. This would allow shared spaces where you're content is protected. If that is will still be the case, people will need tP to enter certain spaces.
