I'll forward it to devs. What happens when you uninstall tS, does Opera start working once more?
Thanks!

Hi, I make some more tests. Removed everything from registry related to opera (but probably not) and installed it again, the same, but when installed it in other folder was ok... Using Acronis I put some old windows image (the last one seems corupted) so the situation is different. Now opera is ok :)
Now I have a problem with TS - "Rendering is temporarily unavailable". But I think this is related to my software configuration. It is different.
So maybe the problem with my opera browser is not related to TS... Sorry |

Not sure where he got the "limited time" part. I have not seen any such declaration by Caligari. I think it's likely just a misunderstanding. I'm sure Tom can verify if it's correct or not, though I doubt it is. |

Limited maybe meaning until the next version or limited in the time span of centuries.
or not. :) |

Yeah, I think the guy is just assuming it's a limited time, but I guess technically Microsoft could change their mind any time they wanted (and they're the ones footing the bill)... so best to take them up on the offer now anyway... ;) |

I've just downloaded 7.6 at the local internet cafe - pdf if manual is downloading as I type. Now I have to wait until I get home before I can join in the fun! Still a day behind the rest of you guys but at least its the weekend.
Its a helluva way to make tS the buzz around the 3d world... :D |

Just for the record, am using Opera now and TS7.6 is installed. All is fine. It is more likely to be a plugin for opera that is causing issues. |

Who knows with the TS 7.x SDK being released soon someone might make a plugin to link in one of the free (open source) renderers out there like YafRay (think Blender uses that one). :) |

Hello,
I found two bad links on the training courses download page:
- the "Character Animation" course has a bad link;
- the "Introduction to Real-time Shaders" Download Course link follow to downloading the Resources, not the Course.
I have a question, the extra packs (Flash, etc.) for TS are freeware too? Or are they included in the v7.6? I don't found any download link.
Sorry for my poor English! :) |

This is fantastic, thank you!
I've been purchasing and updating since 6.6, but who cares? I think this is wonderful, and a great opportunity for many! Love it that the Video Courses are also free.
Now I have a question about those - the older courses, the ones originally made for TS 6.6 or before, have there been any changes/updates in either the videos or the resourses/scripts, whatever that comes with them, or are they the same as they were several years ago?
I ask, because I already have most of them and want to know if I need to re-download any of them.
Oh one more question - here on the site under Content, you used to have quite a few materials and objects available for download. If course, I put it off, like so many things - what I am seeing now when I click on the materials and Meshes links is an error message: "An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator." And under Objects, there is one page of objects that I see in the TS7 category, and none in the TS6 category.
Not trying to be greedy, just wondering what happened to the resources - were they somehow only for 6.6 or earlier? Are there plans to have them back online or are they simply no longer available?
Thanks again for this great generosity!!

Hi Guys,
I know I havent chimed in here that much over recent years, BUT I still put my money where my mouth is and paid to upgrade as far as v7.5 - over the years also supported a number of the plugins. I find it interesting that not too many people here are even mildly annoyed at this SUDDEN free version thing having paid over the years and even recently enough for an upgrade to a somewhat unfinished app on the new workspace side at least. Anyone else? From reading it seems most may have gone as far as v5 ish - with a free upgrade to 7.6 now - I realise that these people will not complain. So for all others who did put down good money for 7/7.5 it seems - just put up with it, tough!
So - now where does this put the thoughts of those who were a while back making alot of noise about the MS takeover and those who said ye hay this will lead to bigger better things. TS is now in the area of DAZ 3D. It will become a base app for content, an adjunct to Virtual Earth, Google Sketchup type thing. Did we see this coming, some of us did.

I've purchased my cars from the same dealer for years.
If next year the dealer decides to give me a free car, am I going to complain?
Not hardly.
The same with anything else.
Free is good. |

Hi there
Yes I bought it all from version 4 and up including plugins cd etc. only skipped 2 if not misstakened.
Anyway I was thrilled as soon as fellow Ts user got this to my attention since it's so obvious what now happens.
I hoped for much with MS but this, sooo good.
BIG thanks Caligari!
Just think about the user base now...

@ Aidanodr
The way I feel. If they hadn't done this the user base would have shrunk too low to support the product and we would all suffer. Starting over with a new TS took time and patience, so the user numbers dwindled. We are getting a very powerful 3D Application for FREE. All age groups will jump on this one. Some will continue to develop their skill set with it. Some will decide to develop for it. Some will make a living using it.
No room to complain unless your a complainer.
This move helps everybody. I also paid for these upgrades so I understand your point but I'm glad there is a future too.
Thanks Roman and thank you Beta Team your hard work is appreciated! |

Your point is well taken. I thought this way last night while I was downloading 7.6. After I paid for 7.5 and started to read the manual and check the posts here I realized I bought a WIP which I would have never done had I more exposure to 3D apps.
A few days before this I was thinking I'll wipe 7.5 off for now as I wasn't going to be able to pay for a upgrade to 7.6.
So I'll consider this what I should have got. As for giving it to everybody for free.... I really wish I would have waited another year. :) |

Let's see...
if Caligari was not purchased by Microsoft, this build would not have been free. More likely, $199 to $299. And there would be lots of gripes about paying even more for bug fixes which should be free, etc. Which is totally understandable.
if Caligari was not purchased by Microsoft, and gave 7.6 away, that would be the End of Caligari, the forums, etc. in a few short months, maybe even days. Caligari could not support (pay) for the bandwidth for the forums. Who would front the bill? Not me. Anyone else? I doubt it.
I paid for my versions of truespace from 4.3 up til 7.51. Caligari was able to sustain itself and its users as a result. That's a good thing. Nothing wrong with paying a company for its products and services obviously.
7.6 is now free. Dang Right I'm happy about it Cat Daddy. I could not afford to pay for it. I've been testing this thing for about a year now and let me tell you with all the new stuff in here I am absolutely shocked it's free. Yes there are a Lot of bug fixes and improvements. If I saw a $100 bill on the street I'd pick it up too. I know I know... call me crazy!
truespace is more than a strap-on utility to assist Microsoft in supporting its Virtual Earth initiative / competing with Google Earth and Sketchup. All the other stuff is there too: IK animation, physics, scripting, etc. And these items are much improved over 7.51.
So, yes I have no problem with paying for software up til now, and getting it for free now.
Enjoy the software! 7.6 Rocks!
Please don't get me wrong; I'm not being 'snappy' just trying to express my point of view. :D

Answering some questions (some from several posts back)
1. The older courses are the same as they were on release, so no need to redownload if you have them.
2. Much of the content wouldn't work / is not very useful any more, so if links are not working you aren't missing out on much ;) Of course, if you are getting page errors, please email the page URL to me at
b-thgrim@microsoft.com so I am aware of what pages are broken and can fix them :) Even an empty page with "No content" is better tha n a server error.
3. There are no packs or extra content offered by Caligari at this point (they have been discontinued), except V-Ray but that is not free of course.
4. For those who paid for tS, if you hadn't, then you wouldn't be getting 7.6 for free. You are still getting your money's worth, this application would not exist without everyone's support over the years. You are also ahead of the game, now an expert knowledgeable in what could easily be the most widely used 3D application ever. You have had months, or even years, in gaining experience in that application.
The opportunities for you to even profit from that, if you want to recoup your money say, are extraordinary (training, objects, scripts, materials, scenes, worlds, VE objects for paying customers, and more).
Even if you don't want to recoup your money directly, you will reap the rewards of this move in the form of extra plugins and content available to you - lots of things you may have wished for now become possible, that render engine you wished there was a plugin for, that format you wanted to load or save, that particle system you wanted, well now developers have a huge market, so have a good reason to develop plugins for tS.
And with such a huge community, there will be a lot of free content available too, again from scripts to objects to materials to shaders to scenes.
So we feel strongly (after much thought of course, before the decision was taken) that everyone wins in this case, including those who have purchased tS before this release. tS now has more opportunity than ever to become whatever you want it to be - your options will be wider than ever, in terms of what you'll be able to get to extend tS and in what you can choose to do with tS for fun, art, or even profit.
HTH!

Never one to push my luck Tom  but if the packs (paks) are discontinued as a product, could they not be offered as free downloads?
I always wanted a few of those paks but could not justify the cost for a plug in or two. Would love some of the shaders etc.
Seems pointless just 'binning' them...:D |
