I tried a bunch of the video course links and they seem to be working fine for me. The main page has been updated ever since release for me also.
It must just be an ISP thing - I still see Jack's Organics course on the front page and if it is a new IP address, 24-48 hours would be about right for some and almost immediately for others |

@ v3r3d, I guess technically you'd have to download another copy... hmm, might be that the license needs revisiting. I wouldn't worry about it since Caligari has always had a policy that it was ok with them if you had a copy on each computer as long as only one was in use at a time.
The only way I can see that it would be an issue is if they want to know how many copies are being downloaded to be put into use. Maybe Tom or Norm can answer that question when they come back online later. |

Holy cow!
That's not something I expected to see when starting my computer up this morning!
I guess I may have to change my signature soon after all - I didn't see any prospect for moving up from 5.1 in the near future short of winning the Caligallery (which seemed unlikely) - and then I only really wanted to move to 6.6 because 7.51 sounded too flaky...
Speaking of the 'Gallery - is anyone going to enter it any more as they don't need to win the new version?!
I have two worries - the first is I can't remember my 'customer login' as it's an incredibly long time since I bought TS5 (and I can't remember my Gallery submission login either!)
The second is computer spec - what is the minimum spec of machine needed to run the new version - I'm not convinced my old PCs at home (P3s) will really be up to the job.
NB - I'm still getting the old website too, so I guess the UK is still waiting for that. I'm glad my mum's got broadband, I may have to go round and spend some time (hours!) downloading all the goodies. Shame I don't already have VRay as won't be able to get that, but very pleased to see they've hung on to Lightworks....
Still can't believe this is happening.....!:D |

But I agree, the question for Caligari would be what model they choose to use to leverage the increased userbase into cashflow. Right now they have Microsoft's desire to settle a score with Google and the deep pockets that follow. But it would be even better in my mind if the Caligari division is profitable on it's own.
From here on they have the luxury of charging whenever they may feel like. It is still their software (they being Microsoft it seems). Granting use isn't giving up anything. What they've done is put the screws to programs like iClone, Moviestorm, Antics etc. that are somewhat all tied with content sales in their business model. Caligari still need to be able to become profitable at any time. But for now I think the moneyhat looks good on 'em. What's to say version 8 won't be DX10 based and require Vista, and sell for $795 again?
edit - I've stared at the screen for the last 3 minutes thinking the number of programs they may have just put the screws to is mind boggling, but I won't name the names here. Who's going to make the first ts game to rival the recent blender preject? How close to that are we with this version? Dang. I really want to drop the name of a program that seems way less attractive now. It's hardly ever mentioned around here. Theres a "q" in it's name. |

Indeed - but in that order ;)
Preceeded by some massive downloading presumably... assuming I can remember my login... (and that the UK page updates sometime soon).
To be honest, all I really wanted was access to the better version of Lightworks, so anything/everything else is a bonus, but I guess it's going to be a while for me to actually find my way around the new layout etc! I'm really going to need those videos... |

In the overall sheme of things, truespace may be a fairly minor expense given the prize for beating google at the 3d real estate game. Google had a crew going around my home town and phtographing the streets and buildings for it's 3d earth project.
I think this may be a fairly big gig for both companies. |

I think so yes Nez, I got the email last night but it'll be a little while before the files are there for us- I could login at my Caligari downloads page but nothing there yet, understandable <slams F5 key until it squeals> :)

And I thought being taken over by Microsoft was gobsmacking enough!
But without Microsoft this new jaw dropper could not have happened.
I am extremely grateful but also hope this will be a bright beginning for expansion and development of trueSpaces future in all directions real-time and off-line. TrueSpace has long deserved a higher profile and I hope this breathtaking ploy gives it...

The free version of sketchup?
The free version of Skertchup is actually almost the same as the pro version
and it is very good !
So someone who is good enough in programming ?
Could we have an Skp importer ?:D
The race is open and we all win !
Thank you Caligari ! Thank you Roman and thank you Microsoft !

The free version of sketchup?
Don't forget there is still another version of sketchup that isn't free. I don't think they can ever take 7.6 back can they? Aren't those older versions that were made free still available elsewhere, such as I believe 2, 3, and 4? I don't think people would necessarily stop using 7.6 if the next version saw a return to charging, and I expect quite a few people will be giving 7.6 a try. At least the world can breathe a sigh of relief at having another alternative to learning blender's UI. |

You can get the wider view by checking into this virtual earth blog:
http://blogs.msdn.com/virtualearth/
Also there is some info about using virtual earth export features in 7.6...

Free. FrEe... FrEe? FREE?! Hmmm.... Free.
I've just watched Quite a bit of money fly away. Of couse that was a year or so ago. I'm not even very good at 7.5 yet. Life has got in the way over the last few months. I've been learning Carrara and Hexagon and of course DAZ sucks in the fix Hexagon department and just about every other department.
Free.
Right. Wizard, before you think I sound negative. I'm not. I'm very positive. :)
Downloading everything now and I look forward to a new serious attempt.
Well done Roman, Caligari and (I never thought I would say this in a single lifetime) Microsoft. |

This is great news, well done Caligari, although I dont see that they could have done anything else.. About 25 people would have bought the upgrade from what I can see...
MS needs this software to be popular to compete with sketchup, and I would assume they plan to integrate virtual interactive worlds into their 3D world software eventually, so it makes sense to view TS as a holistic design tool for a very detailed 3D virtual world indeed.
I will assume that 3D artists (stills/movie rendering quality types) are going to move to other platforms from the rendering point of view. I bought the crossgrade to lightwave and am happy to have both tools. (I wonder how long that discount will last considering TS is now free! - maybe think about getting LW 9 crossgrade with the cash you had saved fow TS 7.6 :-)
I would personally predict Roman wont stay too long - he is used to developing what he wants and I doubt this will continue, but that's just my cynicism from an ex corporate life. Well done Caligari, and Roman - as a businessman you have done well, and it now looks like TS will actually live on - something I doubted a day ago :-) |

let me start by saying:
"thank you Caligari"
I will be very curious to see how the new business model for tS goes.
I do have a question about Vray 1_53 install. Per the install directions is it "really" necessary to uninstall vray for tS 7.5x versions? |

All depends, if you have 7.5 and 7.6 installed in diferent folders both versions of truespace and Vray can run without problems. If not, i recomend uninstall it.
Check this video.

I see that Prodigy has already answered, but since I kept my 7.51 folder active, I did not have to uninstall.
One minor glitch though. If you right click on the icon on model side, it will not show up in the panel settings as the normal adjustments for the native render.
In order to get the vray panel to show up, one has to right click on the render icon for vray on the bottom of the screen to see the vray panel info (GI, Caustics, sampling, etc.) |

This is pretty amazing stuff. Always been a Gamespace user, not a TS one, but...I think I've just had my arm sufficiently twisted to make the switch. ;) |

Dribble, and the new and imrpoved vray, are the two best things about TS - and lightwave can't use either of them. I won't be doing my rendering anywhere else for a long time (except Shade, but then I owned that first). |

The modeling plug-ins like knife and sword work should work in modeler. With the new direct x exporter, it's pretty much made gamespace obsolete.
If you need some other format, I think fbx is coming. I never exported anything else but direct x into fragmotion, which was my file translation software of choice. |

Been exporting from Gamespace for going on four years now; I always did that anyway (GS->Fragmotion) for B3D exports used in Realmcrafter, so doing TS->Fragmotion or Milkshape -> B3D or DTS is not a huge issue. In the long run, some other export plugins would be GREAT to see, but I don't see it as a block for game use.
LOT of changes from the Gamespace interface though, going to take some serious getting used to! Not that I am complaining, mind you. ;) Far from it. |

Is it possible to access the new website via an IP address so that those folks who don't see the changes yet can see them? |

The modeler aspect is extremely similar to gs. You can even load tsx's into it. It essentially has all the functionality of 6.6. |

Hey all,
Investigating why the new pages aren't showing up for some of you. Hopefully we'll get you up and running soon, apologies for the inconvenience!
If you want to just get on with the downloading, and not see the pretty page about it, go straight here, this should work whichever version of the website you see:

HTH!
